Big Dissapointment
I had the same problem as Madison's Mommy, I was so excited to try this camera out for my nephews birthday. Now I am left with a bunch of blurry pictures from his birthday party. If the kids made the slightest move, images came out very blurry. If not the subjects just look discolored, lots of yellow tint in their skin and around them. Also, I noticed that my daughters blonde hair looks very orange. People have even commented that she looks like a redhead in the pictures. I spoke to sony support and all they did was have me initialize the camera which did nothing. Very upsetting, this camera "sounds" so much better than it is. I also thought it must be a defect but apparently not. I did get a few nice outdoor shots, as long as people weren't in them.

Great camera!!
I bought this camera a little less than a year ago and I have no complaints... it has a lot of settings and is easy to use. Takes great pictures!!! It is not a slim camera but I would also say it is not bulky...definitely need a memory card and the camera case to protect it.

Among the best
I bought this little gem off ebay about a month ago, and it came with nothing but the camera (and fortunately the battery). So I had to get the funky memory stick or whatever they call it, but it does go directly into the computer slot, so no problem there, that's how I always do it. (Does anyone fool around with USB cords?-what a nuisance) Great pictures in a small size, to me this is a camera that will fit in a jacket pocket. I've no problem with indoor shots-normally turn the flash off anyway because the first few I took it popped up on me unexpectedly. But it is a little bright, since I don't have the manual I didn't know til I read some other reviews that it can be adjusted. And I could always go to the website to look for it (right-like I'd do that) As the last paragraph alludes to, I'm a point & shoot guy, DSLRs kind of scare me so I'll use auto 95% of the time. That little mtn switch works well though for fall colors scenery. Guess I'll just fool around with it some more and enjoy the results! P.S. Get over that lens cap thing- the automatic ones do just jam after a while. Wish I had a cap for mine-have to put it back in the case all the time (of course, had to get that ala carte too) BTW a canon IS 2S case is perfect for this, and the canon is too big for it. Wrist straps are a dime a dozen-just use one off an old radio or something

A capable camera
I have owned Sony DSC-V1 for 3 years, and have overall been quite satisfied. You just need to be aware of the limitations of this camera and try not to push it beyond of what it was designed to do. Hey, it is a point and shooter, not an SLR. Outside, in good lighting, DSC-V1 knows few rivals. The pictures uniformly come out sharp and clean, with realistic colors. F2.8 stop should theoretically blur some of the background, but I have never been able to achieve this effect. Inside photography with DSC-V1 is possible provided: 1) you do not come too close to the subject (the flash is somewhat overpowered) and 2) you know how to utilize manual controls to your advantage. The quality of manufacturing is impeccable, as could be expected from Sony with a Zeiss lens. In 2006, there are better options on the market, but this one remains a solid choice, if you get a bargain price.

Hate this camera, buying a new one asap!
So many little annoying things about this camera! Everytime anyone else takes a picture, I have to tell them not to put their finger on the flash which is placed in the worst place possible. Takes really bad indoor pictures. If the object (say kids)is even slightly moving the picture is soooooo blury! The flash takes so much time to recharge the by the time you want to take another picture the moments has come and gone! Thank goodness for photoshop because I am constantly ajusting the color quality, and red eye. It is so bulky compared to most cameras! The battery doesnt last more than 30 minutes. I would give this camera no stars but it wasn't an option! Don't waste your money. Buy a cannon!

Except Flash everything is good about this camera !!!
I own this camera for 3 years now and I found that this camera has some real cool features. Photos are really good. The only problem with the camera is flash. If you ask somebody to take the photos, you have to particularly tell them not to put their fingure on the flash. Orelse, flash does not popup. Also, you cannot take pictures continously on flash because it takes some time for recharge. This is annoying me allot and I'm thinking of buying a Nikon camera because of this damn flash thing.

Even in 2008 the picture quality rocks!
I have owned my DSC-V1 for at least 5 years and remembered paying over $500 for it new. So why am I writing this review in 2008? Well the camera has survived many world trips, drops and still works great but I convinced my wife that it was time for a new one. So we started our research and bought the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5K since the reviews were awesome. Then we took our first picture - we looked at each other and thought - our Sony takes better pictures. But I really wanted to love and keep this Lumix with HD video and all, so I took a slew of pictures with both cameras and asked my wife to tell me which ones she preferred - 90% of the time the Sony photo was preferred. So we visited her friend that owned the same Lumix (maybe we got a defective one) and compared more photos (even swapped memory cards) and again the photo quality from the Sony was better. So how can all those reviewers get it wrong? Because in most cases they never do a photo comparison but if you did, boy would you be confused - I think it is easier to just be happier in your bliss. We also tried a Canon SD850 and go the same results. So I still have my DSC-V1 because I feel like I would have to go with a DSLR to find better photo quality. You can read all the reviews and specs until you eyes and head spin but in the end the proof is in the picture. I rated the camera 4 stars but I agree with the reviewers about the speed and flash placement but if you want a camera that takes great quality photos, is durable and very affordable then look no further.

This is a very capable digital camera 3+ years after purchase
I do not agree with the negative comments regarding picture quality on the DSC-V1 as posted by other reviewers. I do agree, however, with the comments about the flash recharge time and how lousy that performance is. I got past that by purchasing an external flash and attaching it to the hot shoe on top of the camera (How many other digital cameras in the point and shoot class have a hot shoe????? Huge Plus for the DSC-V1 there).
Now, this camera was affected by the CCD issue that affected many camera families (not just Sony) over that last few years. Sony offered a free replacement of the CCD and I took advantage of it. I knew I was going to be without the camera for a few weeks, while the repair and shipping took place. But I had a vacation trip planned during that time, and I needed a camera.
So I went out and bought a Sony DSC-T30 7.2 megapixel camera to use for the trip. It seemed like a great camera, and it's actually pretty capable. But the DSC-V1 just crushes it in photo quality. The color shading on the V1, and the depth of field are so much better -- and that surprised me based on the 5 megapixel vs. 7.2 megapixel specs. My wife still likes the T30 for the size, as it's case fits in her pocketbook nicely. But I use the DSC-V1 almost exclusively. The external flash took care of the ONLY negative I could come up with. I feel I hit a home run with that purchase.

Memorable photos are at your fingertips with two new slim, yet powerful Sony Cyber-shot T-series camera. This camera offers an intuitive touch screen that allows you to instantly select the subject you want to focus on (in shooting mode) and what you want to view or where you want to zoom (in playback mode) .The camera also features a new smile shutter function, which helps capture the most important part of a photo - the smile. The ultra-thin, 8-megapixel DSC-T200 model raises the bar with a 3.5-inch wide LCD touch-panel that controls all of the camera's settings and a 5x Carl Zeiss optical zoom lens.

LCD screen too flimsy
After only 5 months this cameras LCD screen stopped working. There is not a scratch on it but the slightest touch can damage the screen and with out it you can not use the camera. The LCD screen is not covered under the sony warranty and customer service is poor.Sony Cybershot DSC-T200 8.1MP Digital Camera with 5x Optical Zoom with Super Steady Shot Image Stabilization (Silver)

Best one I've owned and survived being thrown through drywall!
Camera is great. Fantastic pictures even in moderate low light (think restaurant). Not so good on action shots, but if you're into that, you probably have a different camera.
My camera was thrown so hard it punched right through the dry wall. It left a neat hole the same dimensions as the side.
No damage to camera. Hole in wall.
Sony DSC T200 = 1 Wall = 0
I'd give it five stars without that experience; durability is an added bonus.

stylish but not the best.
The red color, the perfectly slim design and touch screen were thrilling, so i replaced my other very old Sony with this one. I regretted buying it the day my return receipt expired. The pictures look amazing, in bright, vivid color, but the quality of them is awful most of the time. The picture either turns out blurry all together or the quality is terrible when you zoom in on your face. I use the "natural" shooting mode, so it's not horrible. I just wish i listened to my more-experienced-with-cameras mom and bought another one. Before buying i thought, "well it's Sony, it can't be that bad". This time Sony let me down. The battery dies fairly quickly too. Other than that, i enjoy carrying a super-stylish camera around.

Great camera
This is a great camera for someone looking for something very small and portable. The screen is very large (and touch-screen) so all the options you need to change are right there. It also has a "simple-shoot" mode so you don't get confused with all the options.
Leaving it on automatic, night shots come out very well, and there is usually no red-eye.

Fantastic Camera
I was a bit wary about buying this camera because of the conflicting reviews that I read. But I decided to take a plunge because it looked really good and the pink color was just amazing.
Anyway, this camera did not disappoint me. I loved the big screen, the big internal memory, and how user friendly it is. I never had to refer to the manual to know how to basically operate the camera. THe picture quality was also okay, just the way I expected it from a point and shoot camera.
I loved the extra fun stuff in the camera: the in-cam retouch and painting, the cute borders, and how one can remove red eyes in the camera itself.
Overall, as a beginner, I would say that this camera is excellent. I highly recommend it to beginners like myself.

Good Choice!
Well, i just recieved the camera yesterday, so i will be quick. I really like this Camera, it has lots of functions, of course i'm still learning about, 'cause it's not that easy, but you just have to get used to it as all things. The quality of the pictures and videos is great, and so the LCD touch screen, it's a huge change for someone who had an ordinary cam before...and also the Rechargeable Lithium Battery...great one too. The only problem i've seen so far are the scrapbook and mode buttoms, they're kind of hard to press but not everything can be perfect ah?...All i can say is that if you want a comfortable, nice, and technological improvement you should by this! i'm very very pleased!

Pretty and small but a few flaws
I "upgraded" to this camera from my previous DSC-N1. I have always had Sony cameras and I love them in general. They take beautiful pictures, are easy to use and I've had very few problems with them. This is my fourth. I take A LOT of pictures. My kids consider me their personal paparazzi, so I do give my cameras a workout. I was swayed into getting this camera because I liked the way it looked, but there are a few things about it I find disappointing. I have a Sony Vaio computer and in the past, I have always just popped my memory stick (with the adapter for the duo) into my computer to transfer the pictures. That way I don't have to mess with cables since I am using a laptop. This camera has 4 GB of internal memory, which is a great feature. However, you can't choose to save to the memory stick pro duo instead. The camera will only allow you to use that when the internal memory is full. That is a huge disappointment for me. Unless you fill the internal memory and keep it full all the time, you can't use the memory stick. Also, the position of the lens is very close to the top of the camera. This means when some people use it (doesn't usually happen to me), they put their finger right over it. So I end up with lots of pictures with fingers over the people. I think it is because the camera is so small, it is hard to get a good grip on it. My last complaint is the button for viewing the pictures. I think it is awkward and hard to press. All in all, very nice camera. But there are definite improvements to be made.

Go with a Kodak....
I had a Kodak camera for years that I absolutely loved. We took it ice skating and ended up falling on it. Therefore, my family bought me this Sony for my b-day and I have to say this is the worst camera I have ever owned. If you have any movement (such as action shots or small children) the picture always comes out blurry. What a pain! Also, the picture quality is horrible. I will not purchase a sony again and am going back to a Kodak.

Worst Camera I Ever OWNED!
This is the worst camera I have ever owned in my life. I had a fuji 1.3 mega pixle camera that took better pictures than this one! I have taken this camera on 2 vacations now, and both times I brought along my Olympus SLR film camera, and both times, the Olympus pictures are clearer, brighter and all but maybe 1 will work, with this stupid Sony Cybershot, I end up deleting 3/4 of the pictures because they are blury or have all kinds of funny things happening, the only pictures that do work with this camera is during the day time, or in bright lighting. On the first vacation I went on with this camera, my friend brought along her kodak 1 megapixel camera she got free and it turned out better pictures, as did my Olympus, on the second vacation I returned from today as I write this, I just downloaded my pictures, and deleted 2/3's of them because they are so bad, the ones that came off my film camera are perfect! My sister also has the exact same camera which she brought with her, and as I went through her pictures, same thing over 2/3's of them didn't work, I would have just assumed I'd gotten a defective camera if it was only my Sony that did not work, however hers didn't either, I would also assume perhaps it was myself that was the problem, however, I took a number of the exact same picture on this Sony as well as my Olympus (as a back up and thank god I did) and the pictures from the Olympus, as well as every other camera I have ever used, have come out fantastic, on this camera though, they come out horrible, so bad in fact that I'm embarrassed to show people! Believe me, if I hadn't gotten it free as a present I'd be writing a nasty letter to Sony, as it is though my next camera I'm saving up for and buying from a brand that does nothing but photography equiptment, therefore knows what they're doing. Sony makes great TV's and home entertainment systems, anything else I've bought from them, or known someone who has, has been junk, their camera, their car stereos, their computers! Sony should stick to TV's and Home Theater, it's what they're good at, camera's not so much, unless you're looking for something cheap that you'd only use in the day, even then I'd recommend a disposable, they even work better than this camera!

Great camera!!!
I've had this camera for over 2 years now and it still takes beautiful pictures! Easy to use and very durable, I dropped it a couple of times and NOTHING happened. I highly recommend this product.
Rating :
I'm in love with this camera.
I actually originally went to this page through Google to see if they were still selling this model. I have to say that this is a really good camera for casual photography, and is even still a good camera for being a 4.1 megapixel camera (considering you can purchase 6, 7, and even 8 megapixel cameras now).
I bought this camera for myself in January 2005, and it's reaching its two-year mark, and still works close to perfectly. It'd actually still be working perfectly if I didn't accidentally drop it so many times on hard surfaces (more than three hard falls!). In my opinion, it takes great quality pictures, slightly above-average video if there is good lighting, and takes great pictures even without flash. It's definitely a better camera than my dad's Fujifilm 7 megapixel camera, too. I think my camera still has another year or two on it, if I could be less clumsy. I've also gotten a lot of comments of photos I've taken. People have said that I have a really good camera, and that it takes excellent pictures.
I used to take a lot of pictures of bands, and they've always been pleased with them. It does surprisingly well in dim environments. Lately, I've been taking a lot of still life pictures for fun, and got a lot of good feedback on the quality of this camera.
There is only one problem I have with this camera, however, and it's that it eats up batteries really fast. I'm not exactly sure of what is considered good battery life for a digital camera, but I have to charge my batteries every day.
Overall, this has been a really good camera to me through concerts, parties, film shoots, landscapes, still lifes, and amateur "artsy" photos. I'll be incredibly sad when I have to part with it.
Rating :
I regret I bought this.
For quite sometime lured by media publicity I thought Sony a good brand. But this was not at all true for digital cameras. I bought this P73 for myself and an HP 4 MP camera for my cousin much cheaper than Sony. Both 3x Optical zoom. The HP one was far better in image quality. Main problem is that photo quality is not so good. It lacks sharpness and in most of the natural occassions becomes a bit hazy. This fact becomes annoying because your friend who has a Cannon or an HP camera will take sharper pictures better than you in any light conditions. Also, in the same price you might look for something higher than 3x optical zoom, say 5x or so in other brands. Also during video, every option of adjusting to light conditions etc will be shut off, another irritating fact.
Not recommended.

Questions & Answers
Question : Is it possible to use a third-party Info-lithium replacement battery in a SONY digital camera?
Hi! Please...I have a SONY DSC-S50 Cyber-shot digital camera, and I believe it's time for a battery replacement. The model number on my battery is: NP-FM50. This battery is the original battery and it came with the camera. It's labled as an "infolithium" battery. Please, is it mandatory that I order a SONY replacement battery, in particular, or am I safe in ordering a compatible lithium battery online or elsewhere? If so, which online site is recommended? One site suggested that sometimes third-party batteries don't always work in SONY digital cameras. Sony, naturally, suggests that I use their brand of accessories. I am still quite the novice and any/all advice regarding this subject will be greatly appreciated! Thank you! :)
Answer:
I've had luck using compatible batteries for my old Sony digicam. But I heard that the newer Sonys have a way of checking if the battery is a genuine Sony infolithium battery.
Best to work with a local seller that has a good return policy - such as Best Buy or Circuit City.
I personally buy most of my rechargable batteries from Thomas Distributing:
http://store.thomas-distributing.com/displayproduct.asp?which=57
I've also had good luck with Battery Barn:

Question : How do you go to the trash bin in a Sony digital camera?
It's a sony Cyber-shot DSC-W120 digital camera. I Deleted the pictures by accident andI really want to get them back.
Thanks
Answer:
You are thinking that your camera works like your computer, sorry but it does not, once you have deleted them then under all normal circumstances you have lost them. If you have not taken other photographs since you deleted them so that they have not been overwritten you can contact a specialist company who deal in data recovery. There may be software you can purchase that will do the same job, how effective it is I have no idea. You will have to do a search of the internet to locate it. Whichever way it will probably cost you, so it depends how important these photos are.

Question : format error on sony digital camera how do i fix it? is there a disc to reset harddrive?
i have a sony mavica model mvc-fd85 digital camera ,when a disc is inserted it says format erroe 13-1,when i try to format disc error message appears ,i believe hard drive is out of whacck.is there any way to reformat hard drive?
Answer:
This is one of the earliest Sony digital cameras that uses regular 3.5" floppy disks. Try formatting other disks in the camera - do you get the same error message? I also suggest formatting the disk with your computer to rule out the possibility that you have some bad disks.
If the problem is not with the disks, then the problem is most likely with the disk drive in the camera. You'll probably need to contact Sony for repairs....or it's time for a new camera.

Question : Problem with the display of a Sony digital camera?
I have a sony digital camera model DSC-T50. Yesterday I saw that there is a gray line across the display. Can this be fixed? And how much will it cost? There is no point in getting a new display, I might as well buy a new camera. If someone has any ideas please help. Thank you in advance.
Answer:
Repair is usually cost prohibitive unless your camera is still under warranty, but maybe you can fix the problem by removing the batteries for at least one minute. This will make the camera reset to the original program settings. You can also clean the battery and camera electrical contacts because this can cause that problem. Check out the source link for this and other ideas.
The secret to making digital cameras work better is having good electrical contacts between the batteries and the camera.
Digital cameras require lots of power. If electrical contacts are not really good, this can cause lots of problems so battery and camera contacts must be cleaned properly. Batteries may be fully charged, but will be viewed as low if contacts are not really good. The LCD display is a low steady load, but when lens extension, optical zoom, focus, and flash charging are added in the capture mode; the load is very heavy. With bad contacts, cameras do strange things like making bad pictures or shutting off with the lens out.

Question : Is it possible to watch videos on my Sony digital camera?

Digital cameras can only display videos that were originally taken by the same digital camera.
