The slim, compact DSC-W55 model sports 7.2-megapixel imager and precision Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lenses. It combines traditional, eye-level viewfinder with large LCD screen for easy framing and viewing of photos. The W55 camera makes a splash with a 2.5-inch LCD screen wrapped in a metal body. One year later...Still 5 stars!

One year ago I took a photo class. The teacher of the class took a few minutes to discuss what kind of camera you can take with you when you do not want to lug all of your full size SLR camera gear. The camera he used was this same Sony DSCW55 digi camera. The teacher mentioned that the most important part of any camera is the Lens.....not the mega pixel rating. As you are probably aware this particular camera uses a lens made by Carl Zeiss. Zeiss lenses are known worldwide for being one of the best lenses money can buy. I bought this camera the following weekend.

One year later I am still very pleased with the camera. I have taken approx 3000 pics with it and it still works like new. It actually still looks pretty good as well. Probably due to the fact that most of the housing of the camera is made of metal not plastic.

One very nice surprise with this camera is the video function. While its nowhere near HD quality it is still very good quality considering the size of the camera. Even when viewed on my 50" plasma TV. In case you are wondering, unlike most cameras that limit the length of your videos to a pre-determined max time, you can record video for any length of time as long as you have available memory on the card. You may also mix video with photos on the same card as well.

As far as picture quality goes, I feel it takes pictures Equal to or greater than cameras of a much higher pixel rating...in fact it almost takes as good of a photo as my $1200.00 canon DSLR set up.

If you are looking for a small camera that takes great photos, has a great video feature, a good battery life, and is very durable. Stop looking because you just found it.

Great Price, Without Sacrificing Performance

The DSC-W55 was my first Digital Camera and wow, what an impressive first camera to own.

The picture quality is very good, it takes pictures fast, and I put an 8 GB card into it and I can take almost 2 hours of video. The video feature really does make this a video camera as well, high quality and such.

Sony DSC-W55 Camera is junk

This is my second camera of this model. I loved the first one I bought last year, but dropped it on the kitchen counter about 12 inches and the lens stopped working. I was quoted $150 to repair it, and instead opted to buy the same model again because it took great photos and thinking the first camera was a lemon. Six months into owning the 2nd camera, the lens quit ejecting. In addition to cheap plastic parts on the sides, this will be my last Sony camera.

3 DIFFERENT MECHANICAL PROBLEMS

I actually have a different model, the 6.0 MP version purchased 2 1/2 years ago. But it looks exactly the same, so the mechanicals are probably the same. It was a great little camera while it lasted. Great pictures and great battery life. And as far I'm concerned, 6 MP is all I (and probably most people) really need.

After exactly 12 mos the rotary function switch started to act up, switching between adjacent modes unless I kept pressure on it with my finger. It got worse with time. Then I had the apparently common "stuck lens problem"; the fix is to bang it on the table, which worked. Then, last week, the shutter button broke off while it was in my wifes purse.

So I'm in the market for a new camera; it won't be another Sony.

love this camera!!!

I bought this cammera almost a year ago and it has been awesome...one of my favorite things about the camera is the beach setting. Since i live near the beach i spend alot of time there and the pictures really show the rich blue color of the water and there is rarely any blur. The one thing that this camera lacks is capturing in dark situations. When it is dark the pictures often become blurry with wierd streaks of light. Besides that I love this camera...it is tiny so it fits anywhere...it is durable (trust me i have dropped it several times)...and the battery stays charged for long periods of time.

LCD screen too flimsy

After only 5 months this cameras LCD screen stopped working. There is not a scratch on it but the slightest touch can damage the screen and with out it you can not use the camera. Best one I've owned and survived being thrown through drywall!

Camera is great. Fantastic pictures even in moderate low light (think restaurant). Not so good on action shots, but if you're into that, you probably have a different camera.

My camera was thrown so hard it punched right through the dry wall. It left a neat hole the same dimensions as the side.

No damage to camera. Hole in wall.

Sony DSC T200 = 1
Wall = 0

I'd give it five stars without that experience; durability is an added bonus.

stylish but not the best.

The red color, the perfectly slim design and touch screen were thrilling, so i replaced my other very old Sony with this one.
I regretted buying it the day my return receipt expired. The pictures look amazing, in bright, vivid color, but the quality of them is awful most of the time. The picture either turns out blurry all together or the quality is terrible when you zoom in on your face. I use the "natural" shooting mode, so it's not horrible. I just wish i listened to my more-experienced-with-cameras mom and bought another one. Before buying i thought, "well it's Sony, it can't be that bad". This time Sony let me down.
The battery dies fairly quickly too.
Other than that, i enjoy carrying a super-stylish camera around.

The Cyber-shot DSC-T1 digital camera?s LCD screen occupies roughly two-thirds of the camera's back-surface area, giving more room to see and show off images at the moment they are captured.Press the shutter release button and the camera demonstrates why it is perhaps the fastest five megapixel camera. Due in large part to Sony's Real Imaging Processor circuit, it shoots full-resolution images in one second intervals, and can capture four high-speed burst shots in less than two seconds. But the camera offers more than great still pictures. With optional Memory Stick PRO Duo cards, the T1 camera captures and plays back high resolution moving images in MPEG-VX Fine mode - good enough to make onlookers believe that it was captured with a digital camcorder.

Its my fun camera

I have the Limited Japanese Black Version . As soon as I saw it, I knew that was the camera that I wanted. I love technology, and this struck my eyes and I was impulsive and just got it! I was pulling my hair out reading reviews and just going insane. So I said, you know what, just go for it! And I did. Im very happy with this camera. It does exactly what I need it to do, fit into my back pocket! I can take it anywhere, and it is not bulky like other film cameras or even DSLR's ! There are things about it that make me sad, and wish I bought a different camera. But, you never know if your going to like a camera until you try it out. So, I have had it for abuot 3 years, and for the most part I like it, but I still look at other camera, and, I still buy other camera. Because it is an addiction.

Pro's: great size, very easy to take everywhere, fits in small purse, pockets, jackets, etc. Cool , sleek , stylish, Big LCD screen, bright, easy buttons , user friendly interface, produces up to an 8.5 x 11 print, great quality, sephia and negative color modes are useful and fun, has great accessories, great battery life, great macro feature

con's: red eye reduction does seem to work, flash grabs light and dust with make these weird orb looking circles on pictures, buttons are small, front slide down lense cover doesnt lock, nighttime photos are horrible, unless you carry a tripod around with you 24/7, then you MIGHT get a good photo.. but chances are slim to none!

all in all, its a nice camera to have to take " fun photos " if your on the go, and you just want something small its a good camera.

I would recomend the DSC-T30 , its is a newer edition and they have fixed a lot of the problems that you find with the DSC-T1

Great Camera

I bought this camera 2 years ago and have been GREAT ever since, very slick camera it is small enough to fit in your pocket without bothering you,I take it everywhere I go, the battery lasts enough to take a lot of pictures so no problems about that. LCD screen is big so you can preview your pics. The pictures are crisp clear, vivid colors, the auto mode adapts to every situation possible.
Cons: not all the time but in ocassions i've some red eye pictures.
My guess is you are buying this camera to take it with you and to take pictures at parties with your friends, etc. this is a great camera for that. If you want to take a lot of night scenery pictures then you might want to consider other one.

Sony Cybershot DSC-T1 5MP Digital Camera

A litttle heavy, takes pictures really slow, has a pretty long flash recharge time. so it takes a while for the camera to get ready for your next shot, Battery life is short. Doesnt zoom in as much as other digital cameras do in this category, Try a camera where the lens actually telescopes away from the camera.

Remember when Sony products were good and reliable?

I purchased this camera new a few years ago. I paid over $500 when it came out, plus an extended warranty. Despite the lack of red-eye reduction and horrible shutter speed, it's size has allowed me to bring it with me almost anywhere. Tonight though, I pick my camera off the charger, turn it on to take a picture and the lens is no longer working correctly. I have never abused this camera and have kept it in excellent condition, yet it just failed for no reason. I used to buy all sony products in the 90's. You paid a little more but you got quality. This doesn't seem to be the case anymore. I have Discman's that have worked for 10+ years, yet I cannot get 2 out of a digital camera. I checked ebay and this seems to be a common problem. I am never buying a sony product again.

Good shots in good lighting

I bought this camera last summer when I was really wanting to upgrade to a DSLR and settled for an upgrade point and shoot. I was really excited with the zoom, which is an awesome feature, and all of the other in camera options. My biggest problem with this camera is the poor image quality in low lighting. The picture will seem to be okay on the LCD but once it's on the computer it's grainy and most of the time slightly blurred. As long as I'm outside, the shots turn out pretty good. Still not as clear and bright as I'd prefer, but not as bad as inside shooting.

Also another annoyance is when you are in low lighting situations and you zoom in close, the camera won't allow you to take a picture. I was recently at a concert taking photos from about 25 feet back and it kept just focusing and not snapping any shots (which would've been great at the moment I wanted to capture them!) instead I got the sides of heads or eyes half closed. Frustrating!

A great feature with this camera is the options for sepia & black and white. Especially because you can change this setting while filming also. At the concert I attended the lighting was this awful red and I was able to switch to black and white and have a really good video.

In all, if you take pictures outside in great lighting situations- you'll love the options this camera has to offer! If you're looking to take pictures indoors, at sporting or other events- I would definitely skip it because you'll find yourself frustrated like I still am.

Not as good as H1 or H2 - but still decent

I have owned the H1 and H2 and they are superior in quality compared to this camera. I use the H7 for work and bought it as a replacement for the H2 when the H2's shutter button stopped working. I have the H1 as my personal camera and it is by far the best in quality. My main concerns with the H7 are that it activates the flash when it doesn't seem to be necessary, the optics don't seem to be as good as the two previous models and the camera just feels "cheaper" by comparison. When I took pictures with the other cameras, I got some amazing shots. Like my dog's whiskers in perfect focus from across the room. If you can get a hold of an H1 somewhere, jump on it.

Good product

I bought two of these cameras. First one works great, nice pictures, clear, no problems so far. The second one i just received in the mail and i must tell you... THE BOX WAS OPEN (stickers were torn off, etc. ) when i received it. Can't find a phone number for Amazon.com anywhere to speak to someone about why the box was open. Very disapointed in Amazon about not providing the phone number. They jerk you around back and forth with FAQ but there is no phone number and my issue is not covered in FAQ. I hope there are no problems with this camera because I wouldn't know where to even start without a phone number and we all know how sending e-mails about a problem goes. Good Luck

Fantastic Camera

I was a bit wary about buying this camera because of the conflicting reviews that I read. But I decided to take a plunge because it looked really good and the pink color was just amazing.

Anyway, this camera did not disappoint me. I loved the big screen, the big internal memory, and how user friendly it is. I never had to refer to the manual to know how to basically operate the camera. THe picture quality was also okay, just the way I expected it from a point and shoot camera.

I loved the extra fun stuff in the camera: the in-cam retouch and painting, the cute borders, and how one can remove red eyes in the camera itself.

Overall, as a beginner, I would say that this camera is excellent. I highly recommend it to beginners like myself.

Great camera

This is a great camera for someone looking for something very small and portable. The screen is very large (and touch-screen) so all the options you need to change are right there. It also has a "simple-shoot" mode so you don't get confused with all the options.

Leaving it on automatic, night shots come out very well, and there is usually no red-eye.

Good Choice!

Well, i just recieved the camera yesterday, so i will be quick. I really like this Camera, it has lots of functions, of course i'm still learning about, 'cause it's not that easy, but you just have to get used to it as all things. The quality of the pictures and videos is great, and so the LCD touch screen, it's a huge change for someone who had an ordinary cam before...and also the Rechargeable Lithium Battery...great one too. The only problem i've seen so far are the scrapbook and mode buttoms, they're kind of hard to press but not everything can be perfect ah?...All i can say is that if you want a comfortable, nice, and technological improvement you should by this! i'm very very pleased!

Pretty and small but a few flaws

I "upgraded" to this camera from my previous DSC-N1. I have always had Sony cameras and I love them in general. They take beautiful pictures, are easy to use and I've had very few problems with them. This is my fourth. I take A LOT of pictures. My kids consider me their personal paparazzi, so I do give my cameras a workout. I was swayed into getting this camera because I liked the way it looked, but there are a few things about it I find disappointing. I have a Sony Vaio computer and in the past, I have always just popped my memory stick (with the adapter for the duo) into my computer to transfer the pictures. That way I don't have to mess with cables since I am using a laptop. This camera has 4 GB of internal memory, which is a great feature. However, you can't choose to save to the memory stick pro duo instead. The camera will only allow you to use that when the internal memory is full. That is a huge disappointment for me. Unless you fill the internal memory and keep it full all the time, you can't use the memory stick. Also, the position of the lens is very close to the top of the camera. This means when some people use it (doesn't usually happen to me), they put their finger right over it. So I end up with lots of pictures with fingers over the people. I think it is because the camera is so small, it is hard to get a good grip on it. My last complaint is the button for viewing the pictures. I think it is awkward and hard to press. All in all, very nice camera. But there are definite improvements to be made.

Question : What is a good model of a Sony digital camera?
I'm looking for a Sony brand digital camera. I am purchasing for a camera priced anywhere from $350 and under. Please give me your input on the models.. I am interested in the one with Keisha Chante as the promoter (but don't know the camera model's name) Is that a good camera?

Answer:
go to sonystyle.com check out the models then go to yahoo shopping for a good price

Question : How to recognize GENUINE Sony digital camera and memory ?
If go for shopping sony digital camera and memory cards, prices vary drastically (more than 10%) from shop to shop. can any body tell me how to recognize GENUINE Sony digital camera and memory? (Particularly interested in Sony H3 and Pro Duo 2 gb or 4gb cards). If I purchased fake memory card, what can be possible consequences? Regard, Mandar

Answer:
Most of the fake memory cards are being sold on the Internet via eBay ... eBay is doing its best to stop this, but fake cards are still being sold. http://members.shaw.ca/fakesandisk/ http://www.overclockers.com.au/wiki/Fake_Memory_Cards http://martybugs.net/articles/fakesandisk.cgi http://www.digicamhelp.com/accessories/memory-cards/counterfeit.php In the US, cards purchased in reputable electronics and camera stores are the real deal.

Question : What is the estimated useful life of a Sony digital camera?
anyone know the expected useful life of a sony digital camera? filling out a fixed assets form..

Answer:
There must be a table for this somewhere. I'd expect it to become "obsolete" after 3 years, even though it is still functioning. If you plan on buying a new one in 3 years, I'd call the useful life 3 years. I'd expect it to need repair or replacement in 5-to-7 years, though, if you don't drop the thing. You don't say which camera, but most entry-level DSLR's seem to have a shutter rated at 50,000 cycles, so any point and shoot would be at that level or lower, I am sure. How many pictures do you take per year? Divide that into 50,000 for a maximum life span and I think it would be 100% defensible on audit.

Question : Will any Sony digital camera body work with the older Minolta Rokkor lenses?
I have many good Minolta Rokkor lenses I've used on several Minolta SRT camera bodies. I understand that Sony bought Minolta so will any of the Sony digital bodies fit the Rokkors (like the older Pentax lenses do with current Pentax digitals)?

Answer:
There is an adapter but its hard to find although a visit to the Sony web site might be helpful. Other than that just keep checking on eBay. Unfortunately, when Minolta introduced the Maxxum 7000 AF camera in 1985 they changed their lens mount. Sony now uses the A-mount so any Maxxum AF lens will work just fine on a Sony DSLR.

Question : Which is better a Sony or a Canon digital camera ?
I'm panning to buy a good digital camera and i'm wondering which is better a sony digital camera or a canon. Do you know any good model to suggest ?

Answer:
Sony tends to be lower end. They're limited on lenses and feel cheap. Sony has been making SLRs since 2006 and Canon since the early 1900s. Who do you think would be better?

Question : format error on sony digital camera how do i fix it? is there a disc to reset harddrive?
i have a sony mavica model mvc-fd85 digital camera ,when a disc is inserted it says format erroe 13-1,when i try to format disc error message appears ,i believe hard drive is out of whacck.is there any way to reformat hard drive?

Answer:
This is one of the earliest Sony digital cameras that uses regular 3.5" floppy disks. Try formatting other disks in the camera - do you get the same error message? I also suggest formatting the disk with your computer to rule out the possibility that you have some bad disks. If the problem is not with the disks, then the problem is most likely with the disk drive in the camera. You'll probably need to contact Sony for repairs....or it's time for a new camera.

Question : What Sony digital camera would you recommend?
Tell me the pros and cons of it please. Is Sony - Cyber-shot 8.1MP Digital Camera - Black Model: DSC-T70/B a great digital camera for an example?

Answer:
sincerely,i don t reccommend you the sony cameras ,.............................i...have had only troubles with them until now ,take a canon camera........are better

Question : Problem with the display of a Sony digital camera?
I have a sony digital camera model DSC-T50. Yesterday I saw that there is a gray line across the display. Can this be fixed? And how much will it cost? There is no point in getting a new display, I might as well buy a new camera. If someone has any ideas please help. Thank you in advance.

Answer:
Repair is usually cost prohibitive unless your camera is still under warranty, but maybe you can fix the problem by removing the batteries for at least one minute. This will make the camera reset to the original program settings. You can also clean the battery and camera electrical contacts because this can cause that problem. Check out the source link for this and other ideas. The secret to making digital cameras work better is having good electrical contacts between the batteries and the camera. Digital cameras require lots of power. If electrical contacts are not really good, this can cause lots of problems so battery and camera contacts must be cleaned properly. Batteries may be fully charged, but will be viewed as low if contacts are not really good. The LCD display is a low steady load, but when lens extension, optical zoom, focus, and flash charging are added in the capture mode; the load is very heavy. With bad contacts, cameras do strange things like making bad pictures or shutting off with the lens out.
