don't buy this camera!

I bought this camera and after about a week it just started to fall apart. First, it would eat up batteries like crazy. I realize that digital cameras do this, but it would drain the batteries after about 5 minutes. These were brand new batteries! Then, the lens broke and the entire camera stopped working. I took it back and they gave me a new one. After about two weeks it did the exact same thing. I took it back again and they said they could not refund it because it had been over 14 days. I just gave up and bought a different camera. This was a terrible camera and a huge waste of my money.

horrible camera

I got this before Christmas last year. It has gone thru a ton of batteries...the good quality digital ones. After using it a few times it started to have a bright white screen when I would turn it on. Nothing like grabbing your camera to take a candid shot and not being able to. At first tapping it on something worked, now it just stays white, when it will even turn on. It is a horrible camera and I would not suggest anyone purchase it.

Batteries are the key!

I bought this camera for my girlfriend over a year ago. We used standard alkaline batteries, and literally after three to five flash pictures, the batteries were toasted. We assumed that we just got a dud camera, and it has sat unused for a year. I'm surprised we hadn't thrown it away. Then, after reading other reviews on this site, we got some Kodak 2500mAH rechargeable camera batteries and put them in this camera. IT'S WORKING GREAT NOW! Great pictures, and the camera is working with a battery life that you would expect.
This is a great little camera, but you MUST use rechargeable batteries with a high capacity!

Zoom Problem

Be leary!!! Although it takes wonderful pictures, this can't be denied.. it has a problem w/the zoom lense. I protected this camera at all cost, never dropped it, kept in case. One day I try to take a picture, the zoom lense freeze!!! Have to constantly pull out before taking a picture. Warrenty was gone and it cost $100 to fix it. Best thing to do is replace, I won't be investing in a Samsung Camera again

Be careful with this!

I very lightly dropped this camera on the carpet from about 6 inches away, jammed the zoom and the whole camera never went on again. Also, there is a significant amount of time between pictures, and the screen goes black, which makes it difficult to shoot kids, pets or anyone who can't sit still for a few mintutes.

The new Samsung TL34HD is a powerful, sleek and compact digital camera featuring high-definition video capability. TL34HD boasts an impressive resolution of 14.7 megapixels and renowned Schneider lens yielding a 28mm wide-angle focal length with 3.6x optical zoom. The most advanced point and-shoot digital camera in Samsungs history, the TL34HD builds upon the success of its predecessor, the NV24HD, taking many of that cameras advanced features to a whole new level. Featuring an all-metal build, the TL34HD is pocket-sized but features a large, 3-inch touch-screen LCD screen that dominates the back of the camera and is sure to turn heads no matter where the TL34HD may be used. The TL34HD can also record video in 720p high-definition resolution, at a maximum frame rate of 30fps. Shooters can also take advantage of a movie stabilizer and optical zoom while recording video, as well as Samsungs Successive Recording mode, which allows the user to pause and then resume filming without having to save the clips as individual files. Additionally, the TL34HD utilizes H.264 compression, a codec for high-definition video that yields three times the recording length of MPEG4.

Pretty fun little camera

I bought this camera as a more affordable option than buying a camcorder, and it was time for a new camera anyway. I think there are probably better cameras out there, but for the cost I think it's a very good point and shoot and the hd video is really great. The touch screen makes it very easy to select settings, speed, etc. quickly enough to still get pics of my 2 y.o. doing something cute. I like the sharpness of the 14.7 Mp pics, which you can very simply zoom, crop & copy in the playback mode. It also has image editing software on the camera like red eye fix. My only warnings are: for good video playback on pc you must have good processor, video card & lots of RAM; flash seems extra bright; and while scrolling through pics using arrows in playback mode, finger always triggers "display mode" button, directly above arrow. Kind of annoying. All in all my wife and I have been having a lot of fun with this cool little camera.

Not perfect, but it's a keeper

I bought this camera for the 28mm lens. How often have you tried to get a picture of a group of people, but couldn't stand back far enough to fit them in? No problem with this camera. It takes great pictures that perfectly fill a 16x9 TV screen.

The videos that it takes are a bit grainy. The flash pictures seem a bit washed out with too much light. Sometimes the menus have buttons that don't work (hoping for a firmware upgrade...), and there is a learning curve on using the touch screen.-- I'm keeping it anyway.

PERFECT DIGITAL COMPANION

I HAVE OWNED SEVERAL DIGITAL CAMERAS, EACH BETTER IN PICTURE QUALITY THAN THE PREVIOUS ONES, NOT TO MENTION THE OPTIONS AND THE BULKY SIZE. BUT NONE THAT I HAVE RESEARCHED AND COMPARED HAS COME CLOSE IN RESOLUTION, OPTIONS,SIZE AND THE PRICE. I LOVE IT. THE MENU IS SIMPLE THE STYLE IS GREAT. THE SCREEN IS LARGE ENOUGH TO VIEW PHOTOS WITH IT'S RICHNESS, NOT TO MENTION THE SMOOTH FLOW OF THE TOUCH SCREEN. THIS CAMERA IS MARVELOUS.

Great pictures in good lighting

I own quite a few compact cameras so I got a chance to do some comparisons. I compared the pictures quality between the Panasonic FX01 (old), Canon IS870, Panasonic LX3, and this one. I just compared the IQ in various ISOs in good lighting. I didn't bother testing in bad lighting since I know the noise would be at least a stop worse in bad lighting so I didn't bother. Needless to say, the Panasonic FX01 is the oldest and the IQ is the worst with only usable ISO up to 200. This was the camera that I wanted to replace so I compared just to confirm for myself that replacing it was the right choice. In good lighting using either ISO 80 or 100, the Samsung TL34HD had the most detail since it has the most pixels at 14.7 MP. The Panasonic LX3 and the Canon 870 were very close. However, I had to bump down noise reduction to -2 (all film modes) on the LX3 to get the full details. The Canon kept almost all the details at the default settings. It's probably a three-way tie at ISO 200 since the Samsung's noise reduced detail level down to the other two. At ISO 400, the LX3 edged the Canon (not much) for the win. The Samsung lost fine details so you could probably only print up to a 8x10. Both the Canon and Panasonic lost some details but were considerably better than the Samsung. At ISO 800, the LX3 was the clear winner. The Samsung's image looked almost like a water color painting at 100% on the screen, however, I could still print a 4x6 and the picture would look OK. What's more disturbing is that the colors were very flat due to noise reduction. I would definitely not use ISO 800 on the Samsung. The Canon also lost a bit of detail at ISO 800 but at least the colors were still mostly saturated. The Panasonic LX3 had noise but I could see 80 percent of the fine details. At ISO 1600, the LX3 was the only usable option if you're desperate for a shot in low light. The LX3 still retained details at ISO 1600 but there's no way to remove the noise without losing the details at this point. Another note is that while I maxed out the apertures on both the Samsung and Canon at f2.8, I still could drop to f2 on the LX3 which means I could use ISO 400 instead of ISO 800 like the other two cameras.

I also compared the HD video recording between the Samsung and the Panasonic LX3. Both could record 720P but the Samsung does it at 30 fps while the Panasonic records at 24 fps. Given the specs, one would think that the Samsung has smoother video but it was more jerky. The Samsung requires good lighting for the video to look like HD. The Panasonic's video looked like HD even with indoor lighting. I really like the fact that I can use the zoom while recording video on the Samsung. It also has the option to mute the audio while zooming so that you don't hear the zooming mechanism. The Samsung uses AVCHD format which requires much less space but requires the latest software and a powerful system for video processing. The Panasonic uses motion JPEG which takes up much more space.

I would have rated the Samsung three starts but the user touch-screen interface is excellent and the low price. The online price for the Samsung is only half of the Panasonic. It is very pocketable unlike the Panasonic. The touch-screen is very intuitive and responsive. It also has the onscreen help so you really don't need a manual at all. My only wish for this camera to make it better is that the IQ would perform at least as good as the Canon IS870 in low light. The Canon has good IQ and usable ISO 800 but the menu system is not very user friendly and only 640x480 video recording. Overall, I would give the Samsung and Canon a tie. The Canon has better IQ starting at ISO 200 and up but the Samsung has better IQ at lower ISO and HD video and an excellent touch-screen interface. The Panasonic LX3 is the winner but it's not on the same price level as the other two.

The end result is that I keep the LX3 while my wife gets the Samsung. She likes the touch screen and small size while I like the IQ, fast lens and full controls of the LX3.

Rating :

it's okay

I purchased this and then returned it because the image quality full blown was not particularly better than other compacts. In other words not really better than the old Fuji and Leica I already have. Of course my evaluation is based on an unfair comparison with Canon EOS cameras, which are my standard. But for the Samsung (and I like their products generally) I would have preferred fewer pixels and higher quality. Otherwise a very nice camera. I still haven't purchased a new compact camera to take its place, but I am considering the Canon G10 and the latest Panasonic LX-3.

Samsung L100 digital camera

I bought the Samsung L100 8.2 MP digital camera for my daughter's birthday, on the recommendation of my son. I asked him to find one that was simple to use, reasonably priced, and took good photos and this one more than filled the bill. I love dealing with Amazon and have always been happy with purchases made through them. My daughter enjoys using it and the pictures are great. It can even take movies and uses rechargable batteries, a real plus since disposable batteries can be expensive. We would definitely recommend it.

Noisy and wrong color!

I am dissapointed with this camera. The 8.2MP is a gimmick, it does not outperform my old 2MP camera. On top of that the color is always a bit pale, yellowish, and very noisy. The manual WB does not fix the color problem. Finally, it is slow even compared to similar cameras from 4 years ago.

Nice, small & compact

The best thing about this camera is its size. Very easy to slip in a jacket or purse.

Rating :

mostly good

I bought this camera with little to no research first and it was a good camera for the price. The pictures are clear and crisp. When zooming in on the pictures, detail that we didn't even know was there, was captured. My only problem came about 5 months after buying the camera when, for what seems to be no reason, the lense refuses to retract and the camera now won't shut off without me taking the battery out of it. This happened right in the middle of a birthday party for my 13 year old daughter. Even the LCD screen quit working.
But, that said, I plan to buy the same type of camera to replace it.

Great for the price!

I purchased this camera before going to Mexico for my son's engagement party for its size and of course for its color - and it worked out great. It was easy to take with me to all the activities - parties, sightseeing, family shots - and the price was right!

good pics and features but slow

Positives:
1. Size is very small- wife loves it, goes in purse easily
2. Decent pics
3. Numerous features- including video+zoom...I like the "Backlight" scene since lot of photos the subjects face goes dark if their background is very bright and this corrects for that (with a flash)

Negative:
1. Being used to a Canon, there is a big delay in this one..you press the trigger and hte lcd goes blank for longish time....(I think it has taken the pic so u can move your hand..its just writing to the card...which does not hurt the pic I think...) but annoying anyway..

A good option if your expectations are not high

If you are looking for a camera and size and price are your concerns, this is a good choice. At around $100, 8mp and a very slim desing, it is a good buy. However, if image quality is important to you, then you would be better served with a Canon or a Sony. Of course, that would mean that you would have to spend around $50-80 more.

Poor Picture Quality & operation difficulty

Got this camera for my wife as a combo picture/video piece for Xmas. I have purchased Samsung tv's & disc player and thought their quality VG. So I thought this would be the same. The TH34HD camera however was a disappointment. The touch screen was difficult to work and it kept popping up for things you didn't want to do. Also the design is wanting. The shutter is in a difficult position to snap a picture (left of the mode selector) and me & my wife kept pushing the mode selector. Also you have to readjust how you hold the camera when shooting a picture as the flash mechanism is a pop-up positioned on the top left side of camera a place where most people hold the camera with their left index finger. For being 14.7 megapixals the picture quality was only OK. Finally, the operating manual was a CD and everytime you wanted to refer to it you have to go on the computer. There should have been a printed manual. Because of this my wife decided to return it and look for a different camera.

I bought this for my 73-year-old father who is somewhat technically proficient. It has a quick response time, which is great. He had a Nikon that was very slow - by the time the photo was snapped people had been posing for a long time and were moving or blinking. Hard to take good pictures of toddling grandkids; they don't stay put that long. This camera has more features than he probably needs or will make use of, but it works well and puts out a nice, crisp picture. The touch screen is big and easy to use. Big plus.

WOW!!!

This has got to be one of the most underrated cameras around. Samsung has done a superb job of designing and building this little beast. It has many, MANY features that are fun and easy to use. The lighting on the automatic mode is very accurate, the HD video capture is excellent, and the all manual mode is an overall good experience. The one thing that IS lacking is the lack of a panorama assist function, but that's the only flaw I can find. Overall, this is the best semi-point-and-shoot camera I've ever owned!

Answer:
NO, no, no, no, no - don't EVER do that!!! You should never EVER set your camera to anything less than best quality (i.e. lowest compression rate) and biggest size (highest resolution). The reasons for that include: 1) If you have a good, large photo, you can crop it more later on without losing too much detail if you really have to. 2) If you happen to take the best photo you ever took, you'll be able to print it at a large size. If you lowered size and quality, you'd be kicking yourself. 3) If you decide later you really don't want to keep a big file, it is very easy to down-size it in post processing - but you can't go the other way, you can't invent pixels that weren't there in the first place. 4) Memory cards are cheap, so are bigger hard drives. There is NO reason to do anything less than the best.

Question : Did anyone else buy the Samsung D53 digital camera at Walmart? How does Samsung compare with Polaroid?
This must have been a Walmart exclusive because it's not listed on the Samsung web site as a model. Does anyone know how this camera would compare with the Polaroid A700 which was on sale at Kmart? Any opinions on who might make the best inexpense digital camera--Samsung or Polaroid? I do know that the Samsung is very confusing to use out of the box. There are many features but a steep learning curve on figuring out how to use them.

Answer:
Neither. I don't know how much retailers are advertising these for, but if Canon, Olympus, Fuji or Kodak had one within $100, I would opt for one of those and consider it money well spent. I use a Samsung digicam at work for taking passport photos and it is completely unimpressive. Polaroid spent a lot of time in bankruptcy, and is behind on the digital curve. Good luck in finding the right camera. BTW, if you are switching from a film camera, ALL digicams have a steep learning curve!

Question : How do you set the timer on a Samsung D75 digital camera?!?
Hi! I have a samsung D75 digital camera and I always need to use the timer option, but I dont know how to set it up so it works! Please, if you know, tell me how because its driving me mad! Thank you! Have a good day.

Answer:
The round dial on the back of your camera has the self-timer function. It's the icon that looks like a circle or clock. It has a line through it (or the second hand in a clock). While in recording/shooting mode you should be able to press it and it will give you a 2 sec. or 10 sec. timer option. Then just press the shutter button to get the timer started. Alternatively, have a look in pages 8 and, in particular, page 27 of your user manual for help in using the self timer. If you don't have the user manual, you can download it in the link below...

Question : how to take picture of a moon whith my samsung digital camera?
someone help me??? i want to take picture of a moon camera i have : samsung S750 zoom-5.8-17.4mm 3X optical zoom have ASR (advance shake reduction) 7.2 megapixel i have paint shop pro X2 picasa tripod

Answer:
The moon will be quite small with your lenses focal length which is not much longer that a medium telephoto used to take portraits. Even using my 500 mm on my D300, the moon only fills about 1/5th of the frame. I don't know how you plan on setting the camera to the sunny 16 rule setting for exposing the moon properly. At ISO 100, you could hand hold the camera at 1/400th second @ f/8 with the camera set at infinity and get nearly perfect exposures. If you attempt to use the auto-exposure, auto-focus features of your camera, you are likely only to get a white hole in the sky and a lot of camera movement, because the auto-exposure will be trying to expose for the night sky, not the moon
