Samsung NV10 offers still pictures that are sharper and more detailed than most digital cameras around. This 10-megapixel digital-camera features the distinctive Life-Style appearance along with an innovative Smart-Touch control pad, a sleek, brushed black aluminum body and compact design. The NV10, measuring just .7-inches thick, includes a Schneider 3x optical zoom lens (35-105mm equivalent), a 5x digital zoom and a large, 2.5-inch color LCD display. Advanced Shaking Reduction (ASR) provides enhanced image clarity by electronically compensating for excess hand shake and improving color in environments lacking sufficient lighting where the use of the electronic-flash is not desirable. For crystal-clear images under various shooting conditions, the NV10 features 11 scene modes, including Night, Portrait, Children, Landscape, Close-up, Sunset, Backlight, Fireworks, Beach & Snow and Text Recognition. Text Recognition, a feature unique to Samsung digital still cameras, allows users to shoot documents such as books, papers and magazines and then extract text from the image taken using the bundled ?Digimax Reader? text recognition software. In addition to its incomparable still picture quality, NV10 can record in VGA (640x480) at 30fps, for smoother video and a larger view of the movie on LCD and TV screens. It also includes a movie stabilizer function that automatically detects and corrects minor lateral and vertical camera movement. For additional control, the continuous video recording function allows the user to pause and resume video recording at any time, while the built-in movie editing function allows users to edit video in-camera. There are also several special effects functions for creative control in-camera, such as Color Effect, Highlight, Photo Frame, Negative and Composite Shot. Color effects include B/W, sepia, blue, green and red. Overall, a great camera for all seasons and reasons. Autofocus
Customer Review :
OK camera, terrible customer support
The camera itself is OK, no complaints. However at some point it was damaged and sent to Samsung for repair. That turned out to be a naightmarish experience. I don't recommend buying a Sumsung camera because if you ever need it serviced, you will have to deal with the most incompetent bureaucrocy that will loose your camera and will keep you on phone for hours inventing various excuses of why the camera is lost. For closest approximation of the Samsung customer service read Frantz Kafka's "Trail". The book will cost you less than the camera here on Amazon, but the impressions will be the same.

Big pixel, small camera.
Just bought NV10 a month ago before i traveled to Europe. Great point and shoot camera with many features. May be 10 Mega pix are a bit too much for amateur like me. Hope one who wants to buy a new camera like it.

Stylish Sleek! and Slim! Samsung NV10 is a great digital camera. It is easy to use and carry.

Convenient camera (but user manual is a little vague)
I have a Nikon D80 Digital SLR and an older Sony DSC-V1 digital camera. But I wanted a smaller camera that I could easily carry around everywhere and use at any time.
I tried the Canon Elph, the Nikon Coolpix, and others in a local camera store. But they were either too slippery to hold, or too big/heavy, or lacked a decent wide angle, or didn't support decent manual modes. Then I tried the NV10. WOW!
SMART TOUCH The camera manual is a little vague about this. Swipe-and-pause (not press) from one button to its neighbor scrolls pictures one-by-one. Swipe-and-pause across more buttons scrolls faster through multiple pictures. To keep scrolling without swiping over and over, swipe-and-pause but end on the very last button on the left, or on the second-to-last button on the right.
The Zoom button lets you zoom out to view multiple thumbnails in a photo album view (swipe-and-pause to scroll left/right/up/down) and then zoom in for the full view of a selected picture.
SIZE/GRIP This camera is skinny! I have (previously) uploaded a picture to Amazon showing the camera with a dime for comparison.
It has a decent grip, and it's slightly longer than most of the other comparable cameras I tried. But you could try it in a store to decide for yourself.
PICTURE QUALITY It only supports JPG (no TIFF or RAW formats). By default, it's set on JPG Medium, but you can set it to JPG Fine.
To give you a sense of the colors, the grain, issues with the image at the corners, low-light handling, and shake reduction (or not), I have previously uploaded an uncropped picture of some jelly fish (at an aquarium), taken handheld with no flash in Automatic mode. The only light was from the soft/dim light inside the tanks. The room was dark because these jellies don't tolerate light well.
MANUAL SETTINGS You usually only get two F stop choices available at any time. (F2.8 and F7.1 commonly appear, but the these choices change when you zoom.)
SHAKE REDUCTION The ASR is digital, not optical. So, it's not the same as having a vibration reduction lens. (Also, the manual indicates that you need to enter a special shooting mode to get the ASR. So, apparently you don't get ASR most of the time.)
SD CARD The manual guarantees compatibility with 1GB max. I haven't tried a 2GB card yet.
The camera also has 20MB of internal memory built in, so you can actually take a couple of pictures even *before* you buy a card (or after you fill up a card).
REMOTE There's a remote available in certain countries, but I have yet to see it available (by itself, at least) in the US.
BATTERY LIFE Once you get past the newbie need to use up battery life while fiddling with learning to use the camera, it doesn't seem too bad. The batteries are very small (as shown in my uploaded picture), so it's easy to carry a couple of extras.
ZOOM The 3X optical zoom is OK. The newer Samsung NV11 has a 5x optical zoom (but maybe Samsung traded that for something that I would miss). The NV7 has a 7X optical zoom (but it's a bigger camera).
I've had the NV10 for nearly a year now, and I'm pleased with it.

horrible camera
I got this before Christmas last year. It has gone thru a ton of batteries...the good quality digital ones. After using it a few times it started to have a bright white screen when I would turn it on. Nothing like grabbing your camera to take a candid shot and not being able to. At first tapping it on something worked, now it just stays white, when it will even turn on. It is a horrible camera and I would not suggest anyone purchase it.

don't buy this camera!
I bought this camera and after about a week it just started to fall apart. First, it would eat up batteries like crazy. I realize that digital cameras do this, but it would drain the batteries after about 5 minutes. These were brand new batteries! Then, the lens broke and the entire camera stopped working. I took it back and they gave me a new one. After about two weeks it did the exact same thing. I took it back again and they said they could not refund it because it had been over 14 days. I just gave up and bought a different camera. This was a terrible camera and a huge waste of my money.

Batteries are the key!
I bought this camera for my girlfriend over a year ago. We used standard alkaline batteries, and literally after three to five flash pictures, the batteries were toasted. We assumed that we just got a dud camera, and it has sat unused for a year. I'm surprised we hadn't thrown it away. Then, after reading other reviews on this site, we got some Kodak 2500mAH rechargeable camera batteries and put them in this camera. IT'S WORKING GREAT NOW! Great pictures, and the camera is working with a battery life that you would expect. This is a great little camera, but you MUST use rechargeable batteries with a high capacity!

Be careful with this!
I very lightly dropped this camera on the carpet from about 6 inches away, jammed the zoom and the whole camera never went on again. Also, there is a significant amount of time between pictures, and the screen goes black, which makes it difficult to shoot kids, pets or anyone who can't sit still for a few mintutes.

Zoom Problem
Be leary!!! Although it takes wonderful pictures, this can't be denied.. it has a problem w/the zoom lense. I protected this camera at all cost, never dropped it, kept in case. One day I try to take a picture, the zoom lense freeze!!! Have to constantly pull out before taking a picture. Warrenty was gone and it cost $100 to fix it. Best thing to do is replace, I won't be investing in a Samsung Camera again

Very fragile, lens get stuck easily
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R3C1WNPSYYYARC What can I say, just google for samsung s800 stuck lens. This is a very low quality, fragile camera, I wouldnt recommend it.

It's good
It's a good price. It doesn't initially seem as good as other cameras, because it seems like it has less functions, but if you play around with it you find a lot of cool stuff to do with it. Also, when its on your computer the quality is great. I could see the contacts inside my eye in one of my pictures, thats how much detail it picks up on. Unfortunately when I tried to take a picture of a praying mantis, there is no focus option and I couldn't get a clear view of something so small.
besides it's lack of focus on small objects, the only other downfall is it's fragility. I recommend you don't drop it. My friend dropped hers and it will barely turn back on. I dropped mine once and sometimes it shuts off while I'm taking a picture.
But the quality of the prints I get is amazing, it looks almost professional, especially with it's black and white and sepia converters. Also there are some goofy settings in there for those who are amused easily, such as frames and fake hair and whatnot. You'll see if you buy it.
It's really good, for those who don't want to spend so much money. You can still be creative.
I recommend it. Just don't drop it.

Great value for the money
What's up everyone, it's your boy, Emko. This camera is a great value, 8.1MP around $100, is outstanding. The videos it takes are fantastic, easily watched on your PC or TV, and you can even take pictures or video while you watch what you're doing on the TV! Take the time to read the manual, you can make adjustments (like taking close-ups, adjusting the ISO, etc.) that will make all the difference in the world and would negate most of the problems people have with this camera. A little bit of reading and you can take pictures like the pros. Don't take my word for it, I'm just Emko, try it for yourself.

Great Camera for Price
I purchased this camera in August of 2007. This is the second Digimax camera that I have owned. I am truly happy with my purchase. I definitely agree with some of the other reviews that it is necessary to have rechargeable batteries, but otherwise the camera works good, and also takes pretty good videos.
One drawback that I have found with the camera is the lag time it takes to snap the pictures. Sometimes when taking pics of impatient kids, they move around before the flash, and then it distorts the pic. Other than that, I don't have any complaints, and I would definitely recommend this camera for purchase.

Customer Review :
Very good wide-angle digicam effort from Samsung
I wish more attention would be given to the still relatively few digicams that have true wide-angle lenses. This is a much better effort from Samsung on a wide-angle zoom digicam. I previously had the A55W, which had severe limitations and useability issues. I also have the 6-megapixel Panasonic FX01, an excellent wide-angle digicam, which does have more noticeable image noise than this Samsung but still outshines it in some areas. The Samsung has a very nice build feel and is much faster than the A55W overall. The A55W had a terrible long preflash delay for all flash shots that could not be turned off. The L74 Wide is much speeder in this regard, though I suspect face detection slows the autofocus time a bit, and if you turn on red-eye reduction while shooting, it adds processing time after the photo is taken (as does the ASR shake-reduction feature, since the antishake is done in post-processing in camera). The movie mode allows for very long shoot time, and does allow zooming while recording, but the sound is muted during the actual zooming of the lens, so this will introduce brief passages of complete silence into the video any time you zoom. The touch screen works reasonably well and is probably no more fiddly than some multi-button setups. I wish there were an external charger for the battery so it wouldn't have to charge in camera, which would make carrying an extra battery more convenient. Picture quality overall (at maximum size and jpg quality) is very good, still looking like a small-sensor digicam as opposed to a DSLR or larger-sensor camera, but noise is well controlled in most Auto ISO situations. Flash exposures are also well exposed and don't suffer from overexposure with close subjects. The World Tour Guide function is quite a gimmick but fun to play with, though I have found a quirk where it only works if you remove the SD card from the camera. It seems the camera will only recognize one "disk" at a time, so if an SD card is in the camera, the World Tour Guide program will start, but the buttons for countries are inactive. If I remove the SD card, the camera will use the internal memory for photos and the World Tour Guide will then work. Samsung did not respond to my customer-service e-mail. I assume a firmware upgrade/fix would resolve this. Any hints from anyone who has used the camera?

need the remote badly
I use this camera for Paragliding and shoot pics back at customers who go tandem with me. So the remote is a key accessory for me. however, it is not available yet. if anyone has an idea of how to obtain one of these remotes please let me know, the camera is really quite challenging without the remote. it would be very nice if you could "set" remote and not go back to the default every time its powered off. The wide angle is great, as is the bottomless video function. please let me know about the remote, thanks... Drew

One of the worst designed camera I've ever had - I had to return it.
Having owned several Olympus digital cameras and also used Nikon, Sony & Canon cameras, using this Samsung was an awful experience. It has so many odd features you have to wonder if anyone on their design team ever thought to try out their competition's cameras. Here are the problems I have with this camera.
1. Wrist Strap. For starters the wrist strap holder is a little metal bar that sticks out from the camera into your right hand when using the camera. Every other camera I've owned has it recessed so you don't feel it. At least they should have made it easy to remove so that it doesn't stick into your hand.
2. Batteries. Figuring out how to get the battery in was annoying. I've never had to look at the directions to put a battery in any of the hundreds of battery-operated devices we own. The description said this camera uses AA batteries - it does not. And I could not find anywhere to buy a spare battery. I gave this camera a try only because I thought it would run on AAs and I need to have spares with me because I use my camera to photograh my work in client homes.
3. Touch screen. At first I this was a neat idea. In reality, you have to use a STYLUS PEN to operate it!!! I tried using my finger nails but it did operate properly. When I'm taking pictures the last thing I want to do is worry about finding the stylus pen and hold on it. There isn't even a place in the camera to stick the pen like Palm pilots & Treos have.
4. Transfering Photos to PC. It took about a half hour before we finally got to actually take pictures with. I've never had to look at an instruction book for a camera to get to the point of taking the first picture. Once we finally did get some taken getting to the PC was a pain in the neck. My husband is a computer engineer and he had trouble! Turns out you can't move the pix directly to your computer with a USB cable from the camera's memory like you can with every other camera out there. You can't even do it from the disk. You have to install their software and use their software to make the transfer!! They plaster the camera instructions with warnings that you will lose your photos if you don't use their software. This is ridiculous. You should be able to easily & quickly transfer the photos to ANY PC anywhere with that disk. Even worse, you have to transfer the photos from camera memory to the disk, then you can move it to your computer.
5. Picture Quality. As dumb as all these design errors are, I might have lived with it and not returned the camera if the picture quality were at least as good as my 200$ Olympus. The photos all had a kind of dark and grainy or fuzzy quality to them that I'm just not used to. Kind of like how printed photos taken with ISO 400 or 800 film look. I use photos of my work on my website (see www.neatandsimple.com) and in e-books. The pictures dont' have to be perfect, but they need to at least look good enough to see the work clearly. That's means I need a camera that takes good indoor shots. The wide angle lens feature is awesome, but there are a lot more choices out there as of October 1, 2007. Olympus Olympus Stylus FE-290 7MP Digital Camera with 4x Wide Angle Optical Zoom (Black)just came out with theirs at about the same price so I'm going to try that one.

Questions & Answers
Question : Wth is the macro function on the s760 samsung digital camera?
I know what it does but it doesn't seem to do anything here, am I missing something or is that just a scam function?
Answer:
It is supposed to allow the camera to focus at closer distances. Focus as close as you can then switch to macro mode and try to focus closer. If you succeed then it is working fine.

Question : Did anyone else buy the Samsung D53 digital camera at Walmart? How does Samsung compare with Polaroid?
This must have been a Walmart exclusive because it's not listed on the Samsung web site as a model. Does anyone know how this camera would compare with the Polaroid A700 which was on sale at Kmart? Any opinions on who might make the best inexpense digital camera--Samsung or Polaroid? I do know that the Samsung is very confusing to use out of the box. There are many features but a steep learning curve on figuring out how to use them.
Answer:
Neither.
I don't know how much retailers are advertising these for, but if Canon, Olympus, Fuji or Kodak had one within $100, I would opt for one of those and consider it money well spent.
I use a Samsung digicam at work for taking passport photos and it is completely unimpressive. Polaroid spent a lot of time in bankruptcy, and is behind on the digital curve.
Good luck in finding the right camera.
BTW, if you are switching from a film camera, ALL digicams have a steep learning curve!

Question : Where can I find a good repair shop for my new Samsung digital camera in Morocco?
On extended vacation in Casablanca, Morocco. My new Samsung digitial camera I bought in the States has quite working and keeps saying low battery even when new batteries are put in. Also the focus has turned blurry. Cant seem to find anyone to repair or even understand the problem. It cost §80 new US cash to buy a new one here would be close to §200 for the same model, not an option. Any help would be greatly appreciated, a trip with no pictures would be really sad!
Answer:
Forget it, just buy a new camera! That is what being a good little consumer is all about!
Buy a$200 camera, In your case get it for $80 in another country and when it breaks its cost $200 to send it to be fixed (not to mention the BS and run around). You see finding a shop that fixes small electronics is impossible, there just is not enough pay on the investment for people to that anymore, you will just have to send it in and deal the inconvenience!
Or Buy a new Camera!
Things today are designed not to last and be very expensive, sorry!

Question : Change image size on samsung bl103 digital camera?
I just got a samsung camera and when taking pictures they come out HUGE...How do I change the setting so the pictures take a little smaller?
Answer:
NO, no, no, no, no - don't EVER do that!!!
You should never EVER set your camera to anything less than best quality (i.e. lowest compression rate) and biggest size (highest resolution).
The reasons for that include:
1) If you have a good, large photo, you can crop it more later on without losing too much detail if you really have to.
2) If you happen to take the best photo you ever took, you'll be able to print it at a large size. If you lowered size and quality, you'd be kicking yourself.
3) If you decide later you really don't want to keep a big file, it is very easy to down-size it in post processing - but you can't go the other way, you can't invent pixels that weren't there in the first place.
4) Memory cards are cheap, so are bigger hard drives. There is NO reason to do anything less than the best.

Question : How do you set the timer on a Samsung D75 digital camera?!?
Hi! I have a samsung D75 digital camera and I always need to use the timer option, but I dont know how to set it up so it works! Please, if you know, tell me how because its driving me mad! Thank you! Have a good day.
Answer:
The round dial on the back of your camera has the self-timer function. It's the icon that looks like a circle or clock. It has a line through it (or the second hand in a clock). While in recording/shooting mode you should be able to press it and it will give you a 2 sec. or 10 sec. timer option. Then just press the shutter button to get the timer started.
Alternatively, have a look in pages 8 and, in particular, page 27 of your user manual for help in using the self timer.
If you don't have the user manual, you can download it in the link below...

I received a Samsung L730 digital camera for my birthday .
In less than one month the battery died ( it's defective ) . I know that it was bought at Circuit City . So far I have had no luck on getting help from Circuit City or Samsung customer service .
What should I do ? I need help . Thank you all ...
I've tried recharging and it doesn't recharge . Also I only used it 2 times in one month .
Answer:
Circuit City exchanges purchase within 14 days of purchase.
Now you are within Samsung Warranty and contact customer service. This may require a receipt.
First, read your user manual on how you charge the battery.
If it does not work, go to Circuit City with the camera they may tell you how you might get a new battery. If it is not resolved by CC, contact Samsung. Read below.
According Samsung website the part number of the battery for L730 is SLB-0937 You can check your user manual to verify.

Question : how to take picture of a moon whith my samsung digital camera?
someone help me??? i want to take picture of a moon
camera i have :
samsung S750
zoom-5.8-17.4mm 3X optical zoom
have ASR (advance shake reduction)
7.2 megapixel
i have paint shop pro X2
picasa
tripod
Answer:
The moon will be quite small with your lenses focal length which is not much longer that a medium telephoto used to take portraits.
Even using my 500 mm on my D300, the moon only fills about 1/5th of the frame.
I don't know how you plan on setting the camera to the sunny 16 rule setting for exposing the moon properly. At ISO 100, you could hand hold the camera at 1/400th second @ f/8 with the camera set at infinity and get nearly perfect exposures.
If you attempt to use the auto-exposure, auto-focus features of your camera, you are likely only to get a white hole in the sky and a lot of camera movement, because the auto-exposure will be trying to expose for the night sky, not the moon
