The DMC-FX100 ushers in a new world of photographic quality by capturing high-resolution, distortion-free images with the new 28mm wide-angle LEICA DC lens, and sending that rich picture information to the large, 1/1.72" 12.2-megapixel CCD. This new camera renders every image - from the natural scenery and delicate flower petals you encounter while traveling, to the glistening eyes and lustrous hair of your loved ones - in glamorous, exquisite detail. The rich gradation of 12.2-megapixel resolution has become possible for the first time in a compact model to further expand the enjoyment of shooting photos.

Great pictures

Great pictures , the camera does take some study. I recommend you get extra memory , the built-in isn't enough . The on & off button does seem a little cheap.

great camera, but needs viewfinder.

I've been very happy with the camera with one exception. The camera has no viewfinder making it very difficult to frame shots under bright conditions.
If I had realized there was no viewfinder, I would not have purchased this camera.

If you don't mind not having a viewfinder, the camera is top notch.

A Beginner's View: more to it than expected

This is a beautifully built precision instrument, loaded with features and offering a range of controls. It requires more study and practice than I anticipated, and isn't merely point-and-click even in its simplest mode. Its default sensitivity to light is for a smaller range than I was used to with my previous digital camera. So far, indoor photos fade into dark when they should have more of an illuminated background. Back-lighting also has been difficult to compensate for, although the features to do so are allegedly built in. As simple as it looks to operate, this camera does require hours of getting used to, in order to take advantage of all the features, and to get the results you want and should be able to expect. This camera is for the devoted, experimental photographer, or someone who likes to master complexities. A Lumix is not for a lummox...

Very good little camera

I am very pleased with this camera. Compact, powerful, large LCD, intuitive interface. Images are very clear... my only criticism is that the on/off button occasionally gets turned on by accident.

Great little camera

This is a great little camera. It has so many features for it's size, love the photos it takes and the 22 minute very clear videos also. I put a 4 gig card in mine and I can take 689 photos at a full 12 meg. Every one says that you need a spare battery, that's just a sales pitch, I can take over 300 photos with one charge. If you take a lot of photos a spare would be nice, Amazon offers the spare battery with a Case for only $25. Great bargin and deal at that price. I just ordered mine. Get this camera, you won't regret it.

Panasonic DMC-LX2

I bought this camera, believing what I read in reviews. DO NOT buy this camera if you want to take a picture of anything that is moving even slightly. There is a function for taking sports images but it doesn't work at all. I try to take pictures of my 2 year old nieces and I have to delete most of them because they are VERY blurry. I'm a little confused by the rave reviews of this camera. It costs way too much for it not to be able to take a clear picture. Other than that it has a very nice design. i have another less expensive camera that does a much better job.

We've had this camera for a while now, and we still love it. We love all the different features it offers, and the quality of pictures that it takes. I'd recommend reading the instructions manual if you want to use manual focus or any of the other programs it has. The rechargable battery is nice, too. It's the best camera we've ever owned.

Best Camera Ever!

Do not listen the bad reviews! This a very good camera! Ive taking pictures all around the world, landscapes, portraits, etc!!

Almost perfect

Excellent image quality with full functions at this level. Almost perfect except two things:

1. Noise ...
2. The time lag between raw shootings.

however, as long as there's no "perfect" point&shoot camera at this moment, this is 5 star! looking foreard to a aps/apc or 4/3 frame PS camera.

Tradeoffs between LX2 and LX3

I've owned the LX2 for a year and a half now and decided to try an LX3 to see if any of the LX2 shortcomings were remedied.
Long story to short,don't bother.
Yes the lens on the LX3 is slightly faster and goes a little wider and yes
the noise has been reduced a bit but in reality you will rarely notice the improvements over the LX2.
Unfortunately none of it makes up for the big detraction from the new LX3 which
is the radically shortened Zoom range which I miss a lot.You just can't move in on a subject like you could with the LX2 and therefore must do it with software after you have taken the picture. The camera is also slightly larger than an LX2 and unfortunately Panasonic decided to continue with the very annoying lens cap design for lens protection. If they are going to make us use a lens cap why then would they make us buy a special adapter just to add a filter to the end of the lens. The lens sticks out anyway so let us screw a filter on it without adding even more length of an extra adapter barrel.
Another annoying carryover is if you decide to use the video recording
mode you still cannot zoom the lens while shooting video. And why are video clips limited to ten minutes when you use a multi-gigabyte card that could record for much longer ?
So I'm not finding the improvements to the LX3 and the continued glaring lack of others all that useful in the real world.

Editorial Review :

The DMC-FZ4 features the LEICA DC VARIO-ELMARIT lens - a small, lightweight lens that packs the same zoom power as a big, clunky 400 mm-class film camera lens. This 12x optical zoom lens is super-bright too, at F2.8 to 3.3 with a focal length of 6 to 72 mm (equivalent to 36 mm to 432 mm in a 35 mm film camera). You've got all the power and flexibility you need to take beautiful shots from telephoto to wide angle and macro. The FZ4 also has a 4x digital zoom. Use it together with the 12x optical zoom and you've got ultra-powerful 48x zooming - roughly equivalent to a huge 1680 mm lens on a 35 mm camera.

Customer Review :

A "Best Buy" Secret

After several months of use, the FZ4 continues to impress me. I had originally planned to get the FZ5 to replace my 3-yr old Panasonic LC5 but when I tried both, I found that an extra $100 or so bought me a slightly larger LCD (not enough to matter), sound when using the movie mode (which I have not used on any digital camera) and other useless gadgetry, like choice of silver or black body. I feel that the FZ4 is slightly faster and noise, which is usually seen in the shadows at higher ISO, is slightly reduced---and no purple fringing, period. Both are excellent cameras within their design parameters as cameras for sports, family gettogethers, nature and travel, not portrait or studio work although enlargements on the FZ4 are fine up to and including 8x11 and often even larger. What it lacks is a complete set of manual controls but if you want that you must get a DSLR and a couple of zoom lenses which will set you back several thousand. My Panasonic DMC-FZ4 was well under US$250, including tax and shipping.

Best Camera

This camera is great. Huge 12x optical zoom, yet the camera is very small and portable. Plus it has optical image stabilization that works wonders. Best of all it is relatively cheap. Best camera on the market, forgot to mention the photo quality is superb even with automatic setings. Plus you can go full on manual aperture, manual shutter, and manual iso if you want. Plus throw in the really high speed burst mode and every other camera just got OWNED!

Superb build quality, responsive camera, great lens.

Build quality on the FX30 is exemplary. This camera is dense, feels hefty for its size when picked up, unlike many similar cameras that feel like a piece of plastic. This is a fine example of Japanese craftsmanship. It is fast and very responsive in operation. The lens is simply fantastic, 28mm (effective) wide angle is rare among such cameras. The lens is sharp edge to edge with very little, if any, in the way of distortion and chromatic aberration. Certainly, the lens is better than the sensor (and processing). The wide aperture (f/2.8) at the wide angle is great for low light [The lenses on the TZ3 and TZ4 are not as fast].
The flash is weak [all manufacturers are sadly underpowering the flash in order to gain on the "shots per battery charge" scale.]. Some hints: In low light, including indoor shots with flash, use the wide angle (zoom out) to make use of the f/2.8 aperture, and you'll get less dark underexposed pictures. Stick with ISO 100 and 200. Keep ISO 400 for emergencies, but never go beyond 400. In auto-ISO mode, you can limit the max ISO. You probably read a lot about image noise. Yes, it is there, but you will not see it in 4x6 or 8x10 prints. You won't see it on a typical 20" monitor (12"x16") unless you view 1:1 which amounts to viewing a 24"x36" print.

Optical image stabilization is very effective indeed. Video is very good.

I gave it 4/5 stars for: 1) Lack of full manual controls, 2) sensor noise and processing could be better.

Newer models like the FX33 and FX35 are essentially the same camera.

The more expensive TZ3 and TZ4 lack the f/2.8 aperture (they max at f/3.3).

If you like the size and build-quality of the FX30, but want a much better picture-taking machine look at the LX3. It has a larger sensor, manual controls, RAW, and a 24-60mm (equiv) f/2-2.8 lens. The LX3 is destined to be a big hit.

Great for the price, but...

This camera is an amazing camera. With its many settings, you can pick what you want to shoot, and it perfects its settings for it. The color is also a bonus :).

Con: The video cant record sound.
Con: The pictures come out a little spotty, and some highly "pixely", if you get what I mean. Very dotty.
Con: In bright settings, color comes out, when it shouldn't. Rainbow doesn't look amazing on brown hair. Or black, or red...

Pro: When taken in the right light, pictures come out amazing.
Pro: Can zoom up to 18x, which is VERY close.
Pro: You can play slideshows in review rode.

Lots of other pros, not as many more cons. Hope I helped, this is a great camera!

Not so small, not so featured, good price.

When I first saw this camera I thought that it was great!. My first camera is a Sony DSC-H7 which is a perfect camera for an amateur like me. But I wanted to buy a cheaper camera to carry with me everywhere and I bought this Panasonic camera.

The LCD panel on its back it's big enough but the colors seems a bit pale. It's small enough to put it in your pocket, but it's not small enough to forget that you are carrying a camera.

Photo quality is fine. But you will notice that the photos are a bit grainy and in high lighting conditions the camera lose some color on the pictures.
I've noticed that indoors photos have more accurate colors that outdoors photos.

Lack of sound in the videos makes the "video function" boring and almost unusable.

However it has many programs and it is REALLY easy to use.

It's a cheap camera and you will get what you spend on it. It's a good choice if you are looking a camera for fun, but you won't get quality photos with this gadget.

Questions & Answers
Question : Canon vs. panasonic digital camera?
I have an canon camera now (a elph), it's a few years old and I would like to upgrade. I'm not an expert photographer but I would like to start taking some nice pictures of wildlife. For this I am looking for a camera with somewhere around 10x optical zoom. Canon has one, but I have read you have to wait around 10 seconds between taking pictures when you use the flash. I don't like that. Plus it is a little bigger than your typical small digital camera. I saw panasonic has a camera with 10x optical zoom and it is smaller. It received some really good reviews on the circuit city website. I have never heard much about a panasonic camera, are they good? Do they take good pictures? I have always had a canon and been in love with it, but they just dont seem to have a good canon camera for what I'm looking for (10x optical zoom). Can anyone give me their opinions on these types of cameras or possibly other brands of cameras that have good optical zoom capabilities? Thanks! :) I still want a smaller "point and shoot" camera. That is why I am not looking at SLR cameras. I want the best of both worlds. :)

Answer:
Canon is the better camera as far as i know. It is one of the best in general. http://www.digitalcamera-hq.com/digital-cameras/canon_ratings.html Go with the camera that is calling to you if theyre said to be the same.

well use the web. Use the search feature and see if it sells at any local stores around you. Now if you are talking about 26 Dec, then search the web like Nextag.com or some other site and you pay a little extra for the fast delivery.

Question : I need a Vista driver for a panasonic digital video camera.?
My video camera is not windows compatible. I can't find a driver anywhere on the internet (including the Panasonic site) to fix this problem. Panasonic model NV GS27E. Will using a firewall cable help the computer recognize it and resolve my problem?

Answer:
You theoretically don't need a driver for Firewire with Vista but MANY people seem to be having trouble. Seems like Firewire in Vista is broken. Gotta love Microsoft. But, yeah, you need Firewire.

Question : Does anyone know anything bad about the $300 Panasonic Digital Camera?
My husband just bought one, but has not tried it out yet. I liked the Kokak or better name brand, is Panasonic a goodd name in the digital camera department? Thanks. It is a FZ7, thanks.

Question : My panasonic digital camera (fx7) makes sc cards write pritected. Is that common?
This is my secound sd card which became write protected itself, I think it busted. Does this came from my Panasonic digital camera FX series?

Answer:
Your SD card comes with a sliding switch on the edge that locks or unlocks your card. It's easy enough to accidently slide it into the locked position. Hope that helps.

Question : Lens rattle with new panasonic digital camera?
Hi, I just got a new Panasonic FZ18. I noticed that there is a rattle coming from the lens when I tip or handle the camera. Just wondered if this is common in this model??

Answer:
This may be normal. There is a loose element in the lens that, when in use, compensates for hand movement when using the optical image stabilization. Try turning the stabilizer on using Mode 2 and see if you hear the rattling under the same conditions. Mode 2 is continuous stabilization whereas Mode 1 is on-shot, I believe. Try Mode 1 also if you still hear rattling just in case.

Is there a site that can help our do I need a special program for video resizing? Thank you in advance...
