Purchased this camera for use at our plant. Takes excellent pictures, very clear, color fabulous, ease of use. Highly recommdend. Worth the money.

Sturdy Camera

I've had this camera for over a year now, and it's working without any problems. The battery life is remarkable, and the battery lasts for approximately 2 days (with moderate usage of taking and then showing images to all involved).

The only downside -- It is nearly impossible to take a decent picture with this camera (without a tripod) in poor lighting conditions. The stabilization feature does NOT help with this problem.

Great camera, average software

I bought the Olympus FE-350 because I needed a wider lense than the typical point-and-shoot camera. I was not disappointed. The FE-350 is easy to use and provides great pictures.

I gave the camera a rating of four stars because I need to be able to create panoramas and the Olympus Master software provided with the camera doesn't do that great of a job stitching photos together. I have been getting better results from other photo software using the same pictures. So,the problem isn't all in the pictures I have been taking.

However, the camera yields excellent results in the photos and is easy to use. The camera is a steal for the price.

Olympus FE-350

Great little camera, easy to thrown in a pocket and take with you. The wide angle lens really comes in handy; the main reason that I choose this camera. The colors really seem to pop in the pictures that I have taken so far, very easy to learn and use camera.

Experience the power of 20x zoom with the SP-570 UZ. This compact 10 Megapixel camera does it all - from wide-angle perspectives to breathtaking close ups. Dual Image Stabilization even ensures images come out blur free. And for high-action moments, this model shoots at up to a whopping 13.5 frames per second in 3 Megapixel mode!

Great Camera!

Thanks Amazon. The camera arrived very quickly and was packed well. Olympus is really on to something with this design. This is a "substancial" camera which sets it apart from the crowd of superzooms. When you pick it up, it feels and looks like a DSLR. The camera is rather heavy which contributes to a secure feel. The coating further adds to the handling and inspires confidence. It seems sturdy and well built. I really like the zoom ring on the lens. The buttons are all well placed and easy to use on the fly once you learn their function and location. At 10 megapixels, pictures are superb. The auto focus works very well and rarely "misses". I like the expanded screen which pops up when using manual focus but it is slightly "jerky" and takes an extra second or two to really get the focus spot on. Reviewers have said that the menu is complex. I don't agree. I invested a little time navigating through the menu selections and working with the camera and found it to be logical and easy to use in practice. The zoom range on this lens is incredible. One would have to have a heavy bag full of expensive lenses to cover this range. It will be interesting to see how this camera evolves and improves. It's no doubt that refinements to this already great platform will be made. A reduction of noise at higher ISO settings and smoothing out the manual focus assist screen would be nice. Improvements in lens performance at the extreme end of the zoom range would be welcome. The BEST camera is the one you actually use. Not the one sitting in the closet because it is too heavy, bulky and complex. Also, how often do people decide not to take the big camera bag along for fear it will get stolen? I suspect that if DSLR owners "discover" this camera, especially as it evolves, many will find a place for it in their arsenal as a great "grab and go" performer.

Amazing camera, perfect for a low-budget enthusiast.

Pros: Amazing zoom (equivalent to 26-520mm), 10 mp, can alter with aperture and shutter speed, 13.5 fps sequential shooting, high ISO, large LCD, a lot of SLR-level features, zoom ring, comfortable to hold, excellent super macro, multi fireworks mode.

Cons: xD memory card, can be very, very slow when using flash, has difficulty focusing at times, unpredictable with focus, small aperture range (predictable for a non-SLR, I suppose).
I'm going to have to disagree with most of the other reviewers and say that I like the feel of the zoom ring, and I haven't had any problems with unpredictability-- indeed, I find it much more accurate than electronic, W-T style (manual) zoom.

For anyone doubting the 20x zoom, the equivalent of 500mm, I have to point out that so far I have seen only one other point-and-shoot camera with the same zoom capabilities; and to get the same level of magnification in an SLR, one would have to shell out nearly $1000 for a decent lens. On the other end of the spectrum, the wide-angle is spectacular, and the macro and super macro modes are superior to any other camera I have used; I can produce crystal-clear images with the lens literally touching the object. Unfortunately, the camera can be very finnicky with the focus, mostly with close-up shots; I often have to take 5 or more pictures of the same object in order for the camera to focus correctly.
I like both the sequential shooting and "shoot and select" options, and they produce focused, sharp images, although at a reduced resolution of 3 MP. The fastest options are far faster than those of most SLRs.
The ISO is very useful, although the noise can be unbearable at times. However, at times when the slow flash reaction is a problem, pictures using the maximum ISO (6400) are a definite alternative, and I find the effects colored lighting produces with high ISO are very attractive.
Both the shutter speed and aperture can be fiddled with, for creative options. One problem is that the aperture cannot go above f/8.0, due to the small lens. Therefore, a shutter speed above 1/500 is not feasible in most circumstances.
I also have fun with the "multi fireworks" mode in the scene options, which allows me to take multiple exposures in the same image. The Panorama option is also very useful (however, a tip to users: "combine in camera 2" produces far smoother results).
Some reviewers have mentioned the weight of the camera, but I don't find that an issue. It is light enough not to be an inconvenience, but large enough to feel comfortable in my hands. The only issue is that the zoom ring means I have to use both hands to use the camera effectively.
The battery life is very impressive, especially for AA batteries- I can fill up a 2-GB card sometimes twice before having to change batteries.
The major disadvantage to the camera is the huge amount of time it can take to take pictures when using the flash- I sometimes have to wait of 6 seconds for the flash to fire, and occasionally the focus is off. This can be bothersome when taking posed pictures or low-light action shots. However, like all troubles, I learn to deal with this; you just have to get to know the camera. The slowness is what many people have complained abut, but it's not as big a deal as they may make it out to be.
The other major problem is that it requires an xD picture card, which as of now cannot store more than 2 GB, or a little over 800 10-MP pictures. For someone like me, who can take that many pictures in less than a day, this can be a problem.
Overall, however, the camera is perfect for someone with a tight budget who wants to take SLR-level pictures. Despite the drawbacks, the camera has is capable of some phenomenal pictures, and, as with all cameras, the results depend on the person behind the camera.

Love it...

I have it, use it and love it!

I did knock off a star because I HATE that if you turn on the camera without removing the lense cap that you have to turn it off, remove the cap and start over. I also dislike that on the battery save feature you have to turn off the camera...you can't just click the shutter button and have it turn back on. And lastly...like one reviewer stated, you have to wait a while on the "scene" mode for the camera to load shots before you can take pictures again (I'm totally impatient and want immediate results)!

I'm not a professional nor have a professional review. I'm a mom and wanted a nice camera to capture great shots of my family and life in general. I got it! Hope that helps :~)

Bad camera

I was looking for a 20X zoom and normally trust Olympus. Due to the many failings of this camera I don't believe it was designed by Olympus. Some, and just some, of the major defects: 1.Very short battery life (time to recharge) 2. No battery meter 3. Stabilizer poor 4.Plastic flash insert 5. Zoom in general, all features 6. pleased, few complaints

This replaced my Olympus Stylus 710 that was dropped 1 too many times in the 2.5 years I owned it. During those 2.5 years it had traveled all over North American and to 3 other continents and served me very well.

Very small, very easy to use, tons of features and settings yet easy to just point and shoot (which is largely how I use it).

The benefits of the Stylus 840 over the older camera are more optical zoom, larger lcd, and more megapixels (though for my purposes, ~6 MP is more than enough; picts with this at the highest setting are close to 2MB). There are a few other nice new touches too.

Biggest draw back? Olympus dropped the All-weather protection which is VERY disappointing and why went with Olympus in the first place. In fact, if I didn't already have a case, extra batteries, 2GB memory cards, and familiarity with the controls from my earlier Olympus, I might have considered a Canon.

With that said, I quite like the Olympus and have no regrets or complaints with the quality of the picts.

I've always used Canon in the past but felt like the batteries either run down REALLY quickly, or it's coming on while in my purse. I was able to take this one with me for 4 days to visit my family for Christmas without having to charge it. I don't know much about the special features and haven't had any photos printed yet, but it's straightforward enough to use straight away for normal point and shoot snapshots.

So far so good. This is my 4th Olympus camera and it is very user friendly, small and reasonably priced. My only wish is for it to have a larger zoom but this will increase the size of the camera itself. Highly recommend.

Excellent choice - great photos right out of the box.

The Olympus 1200 camera takes great photos right out of the box and will take spectacular photographs after applying the knowledge found in it's easy to read manual. Even without the manual and using only the easy onboard guide that the camera presents, your photos will be sharp and clear.

It's my opinion that those that have posted a negative response to this camera have left their posts prior to owning the camera for any length of time and learning its easy features.

In an earlier review someone stated that even a baby can use it. I won't say a baby can use it, but I know for a fact that a five-year-old was able to take super photos, and we have the prints to prove it.

For those that are not aware, buying a higher mega pixel camera does not increase sharpness, it only means that the prints may be made larger or cropped without losing as much clarity. If you plan to make reprints no larger than 8x10 the very highest you need is a 8MB camera.

This camera, at 12MB is mostly being used to make huge poster size prints. We are very happy with the sharpness and overall results of the Olympus 1200.

Questions & Answers
Question : Anyone have an Olympus digital camera?
I've owned two different Olympus cameras now and both times have had trouble with battery life. I'll put in a brand new pair of batteries and within an unreasonable amount of time the camera tells me the battery is dead and turns off. I've tried different brands of batteries and still no luck. What gives? Anyone else have this problem?

Answer:
I'm on my second Olympus also, and there are several issues to content with any digital camera. If you mainly use the camera indoors, the constant firing of the flash will help to kill the batteries. Also remember that using the optical zoom function often, will do likewise. Lastly, leaving the LCD monitor on for long periods will shorten the fun. Answer -go to Target or Walmart and buy rechargeable AA's for $20. This has nothing to do with Olympus.

Question : I got an Olympus digital camera. Not super impressed with the quality -- should i get a refund?
I bought an Olympus 8 megapixel camera with 5X optical zoom. I used to own a 8 megapixel Sony camera... the Sony had excellent quality (Carl Zeiss Lens). The Olympus camera was on sale so i decided to give it a try. it is difficult to take clear, focused pictures with this camera. should i get a refund? What is your experience with olympus cameras? Marie--what model was your camera?

Answer:
i've got an olympus fe310 (8 mp, 5 x zoom) & photos from it are fantastic. i've tried a pentax with similar specs. but the olympus is far better. what model olympus are you talking about ? are you SURE you've focused correctly before taking picture ? sometimes it is hard to focus on some objects that don't have good definition.

Question : Can you help me decide if I should keep my new Olympus digital camera.?
I just got a new Olympus FE-230 7.1 digital camera. It takes an xD memory card. My Gateway Media Center laptop has a port that accepts SD size memory cards, but not the smaller xD. I have not even taken the camera out of the box. I'm thinking I should exchange it for a camera that requires SD cards so it will be compatible with my computer . Please help me decide. I don't need anything fancy, just a basic camera and this one seems to fit the bill. Would I be better off with one that takes SD cards? (for computer compatibility) Seems like there are more SD cards on the market than xDs. Does that mean they are better? If YOU were buying a camera today would it make any difference to you if it took an SD card or an xD card? Thanks.

Answer:
The camera that you purchased is a very nice camera and is inexpensive. I would say that you should keep the camera and that you should purchase a card reader or just use the USB cable that came with the camera(even though it is a little slower and will eat up some battery life) but you can recharge the battery and as long as you keep up with that you should just use the USB cable that is in the box. Keep the camera. SD is not better or worse by the way, but olympus and fuji both make XD and that is one way they are able to compete in the Digital Camera mkt. by making proprietary accessories.

Question : oookay why wont my olympus digital camera upload pictures to my computer?
well here's what happens. whenever i plug in the usb cable from my computer to my camera, the camera automatically shuts off. it doesn't do that when not connected. the batteries are full, it takes pictures and works fine. my computer is a windows. im using the program that came with the camera (olympus master 2). oh and it use to upload just fine before now oh and the computer also doesn't detect anything. so why does it shut off when conected? yes the batteries are new and good condition

Answer:
The batteries may be fully charged, but are they in good condition? If you've got another set of batteries, or a DC supply, I'd try those.

Question : What Program comes with the digital olympus camera ?
The program that pops up when you plug the camera into the computer. It's a Olympus FE-100 4.0 megapixel, we bought it like one or two years ago... If that helps. Whatever.

Answer:
go to the manufacture site and it will tell you about the program

Question : How should I clean my Olympus digital camera?
I want to know the best way to clean my screen and outside of my DIGITAL CAMERA! Thanks!

Answer:
Just use a lint free cloth to clean the digital camera. If it is really sticky you can find cleaning pads for electronics which should be safe. The best option is to contact your manufacturer and ask them what their cleaning recommendation is. Good Luck!

Question : Is there anyone who repairs Olympus Digital Camera in Singapore?
I brought my 725sw camera to the Olympus service center in singapore but the quotation of the repair costs about S$300, which is not reasonable. Is there anyone who can do the job for a lesser cost?

Answer:
Yes very likely.

I have this Olympus digital camera D-580 Zoom and my mom doesn't have the booklet. I'm trying to take pics of my jewelry, but I cant take close ups cause they look all fuzzy. Does anyone know where the focus button is (or the macro button/setting)?

Answer:

Question : How to add the date and time in my Digital camera photos(Olympus F232)?
I am using Olympus F232 Digital camera. When I copied the photos to the system, I need the Date and Time of photo shoot in the copied photo. In the Camera where I have to do this setting to get the date and time .

Answer:
Information about date, time, exposure etc. is held in the exif information of each picture. Your image processing app should be able to display this, or you could get an app like EXIF ShellExtension which allows you to display the information in Windows Explorer. There are apps which will add this info to your images, but I've never used one in anger - you could try Jpeg Exif Stamper, it's free.
