Boasting a tough body, the 7.1 Megapixel ? 790 SW has the ability to go where other cameras can't. Whether at the beach, doing a round of snowboarding or navigating the hazards of a kids' party, this camera withstands it all.The ? 790 SW matches brawn with performance. Bad water proof system

I bought this camera because i was traveling to galapagos and i thought that this trip deserves a water proof camera. But at the third day that I sumerge the camera in to the sea it got water inside. The camara broke down and i couldnt take any more pic in my trip. :(

It's Ok but not great

I purchased this camera for vacations on the water and the ability to take shots in rainy weather. It is indeed waterproof and durable, however the shutter lag makes it very frustrating when photographing children. I have a lot of just missed shots because of the delay.
Once taken, the colors seem very vibrant. Once again it is Ok but not great.

Amazing compact camera

This camera is absolutely amazing. I have had it for over a year now and have used it in almost every imaginable environment. It is ideal for snorkeling and I have not had a single issue with temperature extremes from 120 to 0 degrees F. This is a perfect camera to pack along anywhere you go. A would recommend this to anyone who needs a simple compact camera for most activities.

poor overall design

Olympus Stylus 790SW 7.1MP Waterproof Digital Camera with Dual Image Stabilized 3x Optical Zoom (Orange)

Very disappointing camera. The lens is right where your finger needs to be to hold the camera well. You cannot shoot before a 2 second delay and having to press OK buttons. Overall poor ergonomic and software design (includes all the other 1 star issues mentioned: poor image quality, poor video quality, etc.). The Pentax is a much better product, I have now used 2 very happily.

Best camera for a kid

This is a great camera for a kid. It looks good and is water resistant and shockproof. However, make sure to read the directions together to learn to use it well. They're easy to follow and have plenty of pictures. This camera is kid and user friendly.

You Can Find a Better Camera Than This One.......

I am so mad I purchased this camera. The design is really bad. The slider is a pain, and from reading these reviews...I am just on egg shells every time I slide it open to take a picture. It is not a very simple camera to use. Sometimes it takes good pics but usually you have to hold it perfectly still to get them perfect. I definatley prefer my mother-in-law's Power-Shot by Cannon. I wish I would have spent a bit more and purchased that model! Hind sight is 20/20... Take my advice and tons of others...Skip this one.

as time have passed i strted liking this camera

in my family we used to have digital nikons and film olimpuses:) when we bought this one no one liked it: slow switch, eats batteries so fast, does not have "memory" for the last selected flash options, need special memory card and so on and on... so this camera was thrown in to big bowl with stuff in the corridor and stayed there for many years occasionally being used to take random photos. Now i looked at photos taken by this camera and i cannot say tat they are bad, no actually they are better then many ones taken with newest cameras. Though, i never will get another olimpus camera, unless it is a film one.

Works well for our puposes

We have had this camera for almost two years, possibly longer. This little camera was a good for our workplace to take photos of people for reference. Overall, the quality of the photos can go up to 3.2mpg, good enough for a 11x14 photo, but all we need is 3x5-4x6 maximum, so excellent for this. Also it features a 3x optical (still low end standard zoom today) and a 4 x digital zoom (which relies on megapixels). total zoom 12x, not bad for this little design. The price on this right now is excellent for the features, the software still very similar to the newer stylus models (710,740,750,760,810,and 1000). This does not have a digital image or optical image stabilization, which was not available from olympus at this price range back in 2003. It does featrue the panoramic feature available with type m and type h olympus brand xD cards (a code that comes with the branded card unlocks the code in the master software on your computer). What this feature does is allow you to stitch up to 10 photos together seamlessly for a 360 degree view if wanted. Neat. Check this out as an everyday use, on the go camera. It is weather resistant (sealed to prevent splashes ect, good in rain). Good entry level camera for kids today.

This is my baby!

I've had mine for years. I take it everywhere with me. I've even dropped it a few times. It still works wonderfully. The only problem I have with this camera is that you have to hold it still so it doesn't take blurry photos. (I think it takes a while for the aperture to close.)

I need an update

This is the first digital camera I have owned, and I have used it for 4 years (only one battery!). I always wondered what I was doing wrong when the pix were so blurry with the flash off--but now that I read the other reviews, I see I'm not the only one! And my sliding door has the opposite problem--I can't shut it, and my camera will not turn off. I'm ready for something much better, with a stablizing feature, but this camera was a pretty good basic way to enter the world of digital photos.

No Focus / No Support

Very disappointed with Olympus. I own 2 other Olympus cameras and was very satisfied, bought this camera and after shooting several hundred exposures was not satisfied with results only about 25 % of shots were in focus. Contacted Olympus with my concerns, but they never returned my inquiry. Sent camera back to 17 Th Photo and purchased a Cannon S5 IS. 17 Th St Photo is an excellent retailer and the Cannon S5 IS, in my opinion is a much better camera.

The Olympus FE-20 unites strength and simplicity. The power of its 3x optical zoom and 8 megapixels is always at your fingertips with this sleek and compact camera measuring just 21.5mm in depth. But don't let its looks and features fool you - the FE-20 is fun and easy to use. Face Detection technology makes it simple to capture your friends and family with optimal focus and exposure settings. And with digital image stabilization, ISO values of up to 1000 help prevent blur, so you can always be sure that your pictures will come out crisp and clear. This stylish, powerful camera's LCD makes framing and reviewing your shots a cinch.

Customer Review :

they could'nt sell this camera to me

I only had the camera for about a week but returned it immediately because the picture quality was so poor. Grainy and blurry. Also, it took forever between pictures so forget spontaneous shots. Even worse w/ the flash. I wouldn't waste your money but even more so, any frustration on this camera. Too bad, I used to like Olympus.

Question : I got an Olympus digital camera. Not super impressed with the quality -- should i get a refund?
I bought an Olympus 8 megapixel camera with 5X optical zoom. I used to own a 8 megapixel Sony camera... the Sony had excellent quality (Carl Zeiss Lens). The Olympus camera was on sale so i decided to give it a try. it is difficult to take clear, focused pictures with this camera. should i get a refund? What is your experience with olympus cameras? Marie--what model was your camera?

Answer:
i've got an olympus fe310 (8 mp, 5 x zoom) & photos from it are fantastic. i've tried a pentax with similar specs. but the olympus is far better. what model olympus are you talking about ? are you SURE you've focused correctly before taking picture ? sometimes it is hard to focus on some objects that don't have good definition.

Question : Anyone have an Olympus digital camera?
I've owned two different Olympus cameras now and both times have had trouble with battery life. I'll put in a brand new pair of batteries and within an unreasonable amount of time the camera tells me the battery is dead and turns off. I've tried different brands of batteries and still no luck. What gives? Anyone else have this problem?

Answer:
I'm on my second Olympus also, and there are several issues to content with any digital camera. If you mainly use the camera indoors, the constant firing of the flash will help to kill the batteries. Also remember that using the optical zoom function often, will do likewise. Lastly, leaving the LCD monitor on for long periods will shorten the fun. Answer -go to Target or Walmart and buy rechargeable AA's for $20. This has nothing to do with Olympus.
