Good, not great

Just got my 610c and it's good, not great.

Things I like:
- WiFi feature is pretty cool. Not exactly sure how much I'll use it but it's nice to be able to share pictures and have online backup on an extended trip, provided you can find a compatible hotspot.
- Picture quality is good. I've been a Canon user for years and I think the Canon Digic processor produces better pictures, but the Nikon is very good.
- Fast start up time
- Decent battery life, even with WiFi (plus some smart power features like wifi upload when you plug it in)
- Nice, large LCD viewfinder
- Good, intuitive UI
- Smile mode works well

Things I don't like:
- The shutterspeed seems slow, especially in red-eye mode. I find a lot of pics in redeye mode have the people with eyes closed. My Canons never did this.
- All the scene modes are a bit bewildering... I think it will take some time to figure out which modes work best in which situations.
- Proprietary connector for PC, looks like mini-USB, but isn't

VR Electronic Image Stabilization takes camera movement data from a built-in angular velocity sensor and applies in-camera image processing to turn blurred images into beautifully clear results, on the spot or anytime later.Extended light sensitivity range of ISO 50 to ISO 2000 and the new image-processing engine's ability to preserve high image quality at high ISO settings provide new opportunities to shoot more effectively in lower lighting conditions. That's plenty of sharp resolution to capture the finest details, crop creatively and produce beautiful enlargements. Optimizing performance and color reproduction is an advanced new image processing engine. And the quality optics of a 28-102mm Zoom-Nikkor lens (35mm equivalent) maximizes compositional freedom.

nice set of features for great price!

I've been looking for a solid point and shoot for travel and general use. This camera has a combination of the features I was looking for that only one other available camera has, and that just released camera is 500.00.

First it has a wide angle lense that is fairly fast. This lense is 28mm which puts it in the same class as the new wide angle models from most makers. 35mm has been the norm on most cameras in this class, getting a true 28mm wide angle lense in a point and shoot is welcome feature. The zoom range is also useful and while it doesn't equal the 10x zooms on some other cameras, it does what it does well, with good quality images over the zoom range.

Other worthwhile features for me are the size of the camera and the balance with the lense and body sizes and weights. It is comfortable to use, not too small to handle and not too bulky to carry. I also wanted a point and shoot that uses aa batteries. I use rechargable AAs in it but don't have to pack around a charger and adapters for whatever continent I am on. You can always pick up a couple of aa batteries somewhere and be charged up and ready to shoot. Another feature I like and use more than you'd think is the optical view finder. So this has what I wanted and more.

Nikon coolpix P50 - Good Value!

[[ASIN:B0017K6HGI Nikon Coolpix P50 - Wide Angle Zoom 3.6 - 28MM-102MM
8.1 Mega Pixels - Plus Nikon Two Year Extended Warranty - Nikon Case -
Plus 1 GB SD Memory Card]]

I needed a decent point and shoot with a wider angle lens for interior
photos and purchased this one.

It does a great job here with very good clarity. The wider angle allows
more area in a photo where needed. I use this function mainly in
real estate for interior room photos. It is not quite as wide as
more expensive models but very adequate for my needs right now.

The photos generally require very little or no enhancement once
loaded onto a PC.

Reading the manual and some experimenting with some settings helps much
to get the best use of this camera. The auto setting by itself usually
works fine though for most shots. The video mode does a good job with
the 640 x 480 mode.

I also have a Fuji A900 which is a great camera and use it as well
but it does not have the wider angle lens and has a lesser video
resolution.

The only thing I would have liked is having the larger USB plug to
the camera or same one the Fuji has. This is really minor though.

Using std. rechargeable AA batteries can get 125 or more full
resolution shots on a charged pair.

great camera but larger

I have had 2 other nikon cool pic cameras, this one is clearly the most advanced to date. Down side: little bit large. Seriously larger. smaller than my wife's nikon SLR but larger than the older nikon point and shoot. The wide angle lense is truly the bomb. Almost no point and shoot digitals offer wide angle. Very handy. Shots are good. Video is only good close up. comfortable, good value, decent camera.

Nikon Coolpix p50

Nikon Coolpix P50 8.1MP Digital Camera with 3.6x Wide Angle Optical Zoom

I have owned the Nikon coolpix for almost a year and for a person who is not technologically saavy I have anjoyed this product and find it to be great camera. I like that it is light weight and at the same time it has a very durable exterior, which is great for a accident prone person like myself who has broken cameras in the past. I really like the editing program the camera came with and have been able to fix pictures I had problems taking. I do have a few problems with the product. I don't really like how it isn't equipped with a rechargeable battery. Alkaline batteries are inexpensive but if you are a heavy camera user like myself the batteries will die fast, so keep extra on hand. I also had a difficult time using the camera at night, my pictures came out blurry, but that just took some practice and working with the camera. Overall it is a very nice product and I would reccommend the Nixon Coolpix p50 for first time digital camera users or people who don't want a complicated camera like myself. The price is right and you won't reget this purchase!

Works very well

After reading lots of reviews for different cameras, I decided this one was the best for my needs and budget. Thanks to all of you who have written about your experiences, good and bad, with various cameras!

I got my camera yesterday evening and promptly started taking pictures with it in various environments. I am pleased with the results indoors and outdoors, in bright light and dim. I have even photographed my laptop's screen and, just tonight, the outside of the restaurant where my daughter works. All the pictures came out great! Good colors and contrast.

I took most of the pictures of the restaurant at night using the "HI ISO" setting with the flash disabled. Aside from being a bit grainy (which I expected), I found that the neon signs in view were a little blurry--an inevitable consequence of the demands placed on the aperture by the varying brightnesses, I assume. I also took a couple of pictures of the restaurant with the flash enabled. The neon signs were clearer then, since the contrast with the non-illuminated parts wasn't so great.

My non-negotiable criteria for a camera included a cost under $200 and the use of AA batteries so I am not dependent on charging proprietary batteries when I am traveling overseas. This camera met both of those criteria. Another feature I very much like is its "old fashioned" dial on top to select the basic modes. I much prefer this to the onscreen selection wheel common to many cameras these days.

If you're looking for an inexpensive but high-quality camera, get yourself one of these. You'll get your money's worth.

Good camera, manual mode, high ISO

Got this camera for a month, did a wedding and a few travels with it, overall among the best sub-compacts but not perfect.
Good points:
- Manual mode: surprisingly useable, I usually leave it on this mode, click the side of the thumbwheel to switch from ISO to shutter to aperture, turn the wheel to set each in turn, a little exposure scale shows up to guide selection. Easy to select ISO up to 12800 (hardly useable, very grainy, 3200 is practical maximum).
- High ISO: 3200 fairly smooth, 800 to 1600 very decent, I ended up not using flash for any of the wedding (inside) pictures.
Bad:
- Night flash mode good but not tyro-friendly, lent to a friend for pictures and most of them turned out blurry, she did not have a steady hand. Regular flash rather ugly, not what I'm used to with Nikon
- Pictures show perfect on the camera screen but a bit dark on my computer monitor; not sure which is "wrong", or whether there is some automatic D-Lighting during playback, anyway annoying.

Overall good camera, would buy it again, but need to dig into it a bit, the pictures on my computer did not turn out as good as I expected based on what I saw on screen.

DON'T BUY COOLPIX L10

I bought this camera seven months ago. I paid like $100 for it. I did not use it that much but the shuter button broke. I sent it to Nikon for repair. They sent me the bill for $105.59. I called Nikon and they told me to send by fax receipt so that they can honor warranty. I'm still waiting for answer.

Nice simple camera

Bought this for Christmas and have been very pleased since. Simple functionality for taking pictures. Takes clear decent pictures with very few shaky images. The best part is the low usage on batteries (use rechargable). Had a Panasonic that sucked batteries dry before. In the end, this camera is perfect for quick picts.

For an amateur (like me) GREAT

I bought the L10 in Panama several weeks ago. My old camera was stolen earlier, and cameras are very expensive in Costa Rica where I live now. I paid $100.00 which was a little above the Amazon price.

I slapped a 2 gig memory card in it and started taking pictures. I never read the instructions or fooled around with the settings. (The salesperson set it on automatic for me.)I have a USB card reader for my computer and downloading the pictures is a snap.

Since then I lent it to my housekeeper for a child's birthday party. She took pictures with it and she let the little kids take pictures.

Bottom line--there haven't been any bad pictures yet from an amateur's viewpoint. I know that it is not adequate for professions, but if my kind use is the kind of use you make of a camera--I highly recommend it. And my star rating is for this kind of use.

Batteries drain even when turned OFF

Decent performance, size and price. But if you use it only occasionally then every time you pick it up the batteries will be dead/low. Scene mode seems very susceptible, it always thinks the batteries are low after 20 shots or a week of being off. Been through 20 sets of batteries of all different brands, and the battery type is set correctly in setup. Would avoid, other cameras seem to have same problem so research carefully.

Little piece of crap

After carefully checking every reviewed camera on amazon we decided to purchase a pink one for my daughter last christmas. She was trully happy, good quality image, blah, blah, blah
After a month of use the LCD screen went black and since my kid had lost the receipt nothing could be done but I agree... what about their quality?
An almos 5 star product should not be allowed such crappy behavior.
Now she has no camera.

What doe SLR mean when it comes to a Nikon camera

Answer:

Question : Do I need a special flash for my Nikon Digital Camera?
I need a larger flash for my Nikon Coolpix 4500 digital Camera with a hot shoe, and would love to be able to use the trusty Vivitar Thrysistor 283 that worked so well with my old SLR, but the Nikon manual warns that flashes not specifically made for Nikon Digital Cameras may damage the camera through some kind of electronic feedback. Are they just trying to sell me a $300 flash unit, or is this a valid concern?

Answer:
Yup, it is possible for an old flash to fry a camera due to the trigger voltages. You can check this site for more info on that http://www.botzilla.com/photo/strobeVolts.html. Cross reference your flash against the table there. In any case, using an older flash would probably mean a loss of i-ttl (for nikon) or e-ttl (for canon). You would need to use auto/manual flash then. In addition, the camera may also act funny (e.g. my old metz on my canon 20D will always give me a 1/200 f5.6 on program mode. I have to use it in manual mode instead.

Question : Can I use a Nikon 35mm camera lens with any Nikon Digital Camera?
I've got a lot of great Nikon lenses but want to up grade to a digital camera. Can I get any Nikon Digital Camera to use with these lenses? My understanding is that most F-mount lenses are compatible with newer models.

Answer:
yes and no 99% of all nikon 35mm lenses will fit all the current Nikon DSLRs... HOWEVER, certain things may not work on the camera when you use an older lenses metering is sometimes lost on the DSLR if you don't use a Nikon lens that has the electronics in the lens... or if you buy a D40, D40x, D60 you would not be able to use an older Nikon auto focus lens and have the auto focus work unless it was one of the AF lenses with the built in motor. The oldest AF lenses required a motor drive in the camera body to focus the lens, Nikon left that motor out of the low end cheaper DSLRs.

Question : I have Nikon coolpix digital camara. Many times red eye coming in photos. How to remove red eye from camera?
Camera Model: Nikon Coolpix S4 digital Camera. I checked the brocedure given along with camera, but I didn't find any option in camera to remove red eye. Please help.

Answer:
The Coolpix S4 has a flash setting for red-eye reduction. In the FLASH Mode Menu, it is the symbol with the lightning bolt and little eye. This setting will give a series of low intensity pre-flashes and the camera also does some in camera processing to remove red-eye before it stores the image. If this isn't working, try one of the other flash settings or remove it with any good photo manipulation software on your PC.

Question : What is the BEST Canon or Nikon digital camera for MOVIE's w/SOUND and in LONG LENGTHS?
Hey there! I am looking for a Canon or Nikon digital camera that records long, good quality movies with sound. Can you recommend?

Answer:
I would get the Canon Powershot TX1. Most compact digital cameras shoot video at 640 x 480 but this one shoots at 1280 x 720. That's a huge difference. The sound is in CD quality. It can shoot nonstop up to 4GB (which is only 13 minutes as the highest setting).

Go to Nikon authorize dealer, they can order 1 for you if they don't have it in stock. Nikon's web site will tell you the nearest authorize dealer.

Question : Which Nikon digital camera do you recommend?
I want an affordable camera. $500.00 or less but I also want to be able to take good pictures, and I want to be able to control zoom and lighting.
