Not Good At All

I've had this camera for 18 months now, and no matter how I set it up, regardless of the situation... 90% of the pics are terrible! Always blurry, always dark. I have fiddled around with the settings trying to find the right balance, and there isn't one! After reading other reviews, I presume that I purchased a faulty one! Shame on me for not taking it back sooner! I do not recommend this POS and simply suggest spending a little extra money for a D-SLR. Trust me, you will be much happier in the end. (Sorry Nikon... I love my D200, but this thing stinks!)

YES and YES and YES!

LOVE MY CAMERA!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pros:
Sleek looking
Thin
Made by Nikon so you know your getting good stuff
6.0 megapixel makes beautiful prints
Lots of modes: Has a great close up mode
Cheap: Got mine for $60

Cons:
A little slow taking the picture. I would say that it takes about second of holding down the button to start the process

The screen goes black for a few seconds after there is a flash then there is no autopreview

It drains AA batteries(Should get rechargeable)

This should not discourage you from buying this Camera. It really is fantastic. Also make sure that you don't pay over $150. If this is your first camera then you might want to buy a refurbished one. These tend to be great deals!

big disappointment

I've had this camera for about two years now and find myself so often frustrated with it that I have taken many fewer photos with it than I had planned. The biggest problem is one stated by a few others - for each shot you basically need to choose a setting, which means going to the menu and switching each time you take a different type photo. I took pictures at my daughter's indoor pool party and wanted to tear out my hair - if I took a close up of a few of the kids, I would then need to quickly change the setting (to which one?) for a group splashing in the water, then change again for a group photo far away, and then go the menu again to figure out which setting to use for kids sliding down the big slide - do I use indoor party? Fireworks? sports? the results would be so different each time I ended up spending too much time deciding on the correct setting and not enough time taking pictures that I didn't need to erase. Many photos were blurry, or dark and it took too much time between shooting photos. Meanwhile my husband was busy taking closeups, action shots and group photos with his small canon and his pictures were great.
I really can't recommend this camera for an adult - I am going to give it to my 10 year old to use and buy myself something else.

Very unpredictable

I purchased the L2 prior to a trip to Rome, due to the fact it was small, and easy to carry. It's also easy to operate, and not too expensive, so I can hand it over to another tourist and they can snap away at me in front of old stuff. In the store, it took some nice pics in the right light, so I bought it, and thought it would be fine.
I got some nice photos in Italy, but I would say over half the pics I took ( over 4 Gig) turned out either too dark, black or blurry.
The shutter, flash speed is way too slow, if your subject moves at all, even on sports mode, it's a blur. If the lighting is wrong, it's a blur. The flash is basically worthless after about 5 feet.
I mostly used the default setting on the whole trip with a few exceptions, and I know it has many options.
But a camera should be able to point and click and give you an acceptable shot,...you should not have to access the menu every time to get something useable.
Actually, I wish I had never bought it, it's just too unpredictable...maybe I got a bad one, but after 2 previous quirky Nikon cameras, I think I'll go back to a Canon.

Fantastic outdoor shots, bad indoor, lag time after flash

I bought this camera right before a trip to Hawaii, and i was incredibly happy with the results for the price. Now that i've used the camera on more of a regular basis, i'm in the market for a new one.

While outdoor shots, regardless of the lighting look wonderful, the indoor shots are consistently poor. There are settings on the camera for different types of indoor lighting, but i've never used them because it's too tedious to get to them through the menu.

While usually not bad at all, the lag time after the flash is used is very long. Whenever people want to see their photos right after they're taken, i have to make them wait a couple of seconds for the display to come back on.

If you're looking for an inexpensive camera and most of your shots will be outdoors, this camera is great. Otherwise, there are (hopefully) better cameras out there.

Great Camera for the price

This is a great camera for outdoor photography. We took this camera to our Canada Trip and the result was beyond our expectation. It took excellent photographs of Niagara falls in the night using the Night Scene Mode.
Also, both of my kids ( 4 and 8 yrs old) can takes great photos ( in auto mode) with this camera.

It consumes lots of battery power so rechargeable batteries are recommended. I also purchased lexar media compact flash card (256MB) with this camera.

Great Camera

I was pleasantly surprised with the Coolpix 2000. It has all I want and more. It's easy to figure out and I was snapping pictures away in no time. As others have stated, the camera does have a low battery life but that was fully expected from me. Rechargable batteries take care of that problem rather easily.
I've had the camera for a couple of weeks now and have no complaints. One possible problem that might come up is the bright sunshine may inhibit viewing the viewfinder. So far no problems but the weather has been rather cloudy.

Better tips

I've gotten better acquainted with my camera. Here are my final tips. In most cases set EV to -1 and brighten the picture with the Nikon software, or if you have the sun behind the object, set EV to +1. Use manual white setting at all times, set in camera sharpening to low. Have a nice day.

Great Entry-Level Digital Camera

Easy to use - I haven't even opened the Owner's Manual, yet (probably should do that sometime)! For those wanting a simple camera that takes great pictures, this is the camera for you. Great, small size plus features of many far more expensive cameras make this a great choice for those just getting into the market for a digital camera. I do a lot of digital work for the web and this camera suffices for everything I need.

Easy to use and highly addictive

I love my Nikon. It was a gift from a friend who is a professional photographer. She had outgrown it and was tired of me complaining that I saw this or that and wished at the time I had a better camera than my phone.

If you have never used one of these before it will take a little getting used to. The camera pivots in half (which is quite disconcerting and a bit confusing) so you can change the angle of the viewing screen to the lens. The whole thing rotates freely 360 degrees, with snap-lock settings at each 180, so you can watch yourself "taking a picture of you" or use the viewing screen versus the manual viewfinder. The flash is a bit annoying, as it automatically fires in even remotely low-light circumstances. A simple press of a button disables the flash, but then you have a longer exposure time (about one full second) which means that you have to keep your hands really, really still. Just for fun, try taking a picture of the full moon and see how much you hand shakes.

This camera is really at its best during the day. It should win an award for being the official picnic (or even beach) camera. It really is point and shoot, but it has an easy to learn and use zoom, auto/manual flash, and you can turn off the viewfinder with the push of a button if you are running low on battery. The live motion feed on the viewing screen is a bit jittery, but for the price that is nothing to sneeze at. My guesstimate is something like 3-5 frames-per-second of video capture on the view screen while you are searching for that perfect moment to snap the picture.

The short version: It is self-contained, easy to load and swap the memory card. It takes high resolution photos, and is so easy to use (and durable) that a 5 year-old could handle it (carefully). Stock up on extra AA batteries though. It eats through 4 of them in a few days of use.

Hope this helps

Decent Starter Digital Camera

Overall, this isn't a bad digital camera for most types of photography. It's quite easy to use, and perfect for the beginner. The only real gripes I have are the limitations in the size of the Compact Flash it uses, and the fact that after a time, the battery compartment won't stay closed. Otherwise, I've taken some fantastic pictures with this camera! In fact, I'd have to say it does better than some of the newer Nikon Coolpix cameras (like the L18, which I also have). I've found newer models to have focus and flash issues, as well as severe shutter lag. This may not be comparable in resolution, but it's quite enough for most uses. You don't need more than 2.1 MegaPixel for decent resolution unless you're doing huge blow-ups of photographs.

Still Woks in 2007!

The camera is dated, but still works. By today's standard, it is slow, bulky and eats batteries. I have used the camera for three years and had reliable returns. The memory card is cheaper, easily upgradeable in 2007.

A decade of Escapes

This is the first & ONLY digital camera I have ever bought. Yes, I paid over $1000 for it new, but that is what you get for being on the cutting edge of technology. Many of my hi-tech pals are on their 2nd or 3rd digital cameras, but this single gem is lasting me (& my professional use) very very well. It's almost a decade old & it's still going strong. Had it re-vamped with new CCD chip, belt, door & I have dropped it outside a number of times. Once it took a topple from my tripod in a super windy ghost town at night. Although it has been in the shop a number of times (twice under warranty), I still swear by this camera. Great quality of colors, contrast & light balance!! Nikon does very well in low light conditions too. Imagine camp fire shots without a flash. Getting your friends to sit still is another story. If you check out Total Escape, you will see the fine work of this lil camera.

This camera has produced superb quality photograpy. As a REALTOR, I use this camera often. If it wasn't for the size and normal wear and tear I have put the camera through, I would never get another camera.

Questions & Answers
Question : Does anyone know where i can get a blue or bronze nikon coolpix s210 digital camera?
What are the actual stores other than online stores that sell the blue or bronze nikon s210 digital camera? All i seem to find is the plum one.

Answer:
Go to Nikon authorize dealer, they can order 1 for you if they don't have it in stock. Nikon's web site will tell you the nearest authorize dealer.

Question : Will the lens of an old nikon camera work on one of the new digital cameras?
I have a nikon 8008s camera with three lens for it. If I buy a new nikon digital camera will these lens work on the new camera?

Answer:
Lenses for an F801/8008 would all be Ai or AF/AF-D. They would almost certainly NOT be AF-I/AF-S (the F801/8008 can't operate the autofocus motor in AF-I/AF-S lenses). They would mount on any Nikon digital body. The two gotchas would be: 1. Ai lenses (except for the fairly uncommon Ai-P lenses which are actually AF-D lenses without autofocus) would get no metering on anything except the D1/2/3 or D200/300/700. 2. AF/AF-D lenses would not autofocus on a D40/D40x/D60 Another important thing to note: Except on a D3/D700 all your film lenses will behave like longer lenses on digital bodies, due to the 1.5x crop factor of the smaller sensor.

Question : I have NIKON Digital Camera Model L1. Can i use my camera as webcam?
I want to confirm that whether my Nikon Digital camera model L1 can be used as webcam or not? Do i need any software for that and if yes than where is that available? Is it possible to use my camera as webcam with the use of any software?

Answer:
simple answer no

Question : Can I fit my old Nikon lenses onto a new digital camera with or without an adaptor?
The Lenses I have are: Nikon AF 70-210mm f/4-5.6 D Zoom-Nikkor Nikon AF 35-70mm f/2.8D Could they be adapted to a new Nikon digital camera? If so, what models? Also, would it be possible to somehow use an adapter to put them onto the Cannon Digital Rebel XT? Thanks.

Answer:
I currently have used my older Nikon AF lenses with success on my D50, D70, and D200 with no problem. The only exceptions to that full compatibility rule would be the current D40, D40x, or D60, as they lack the internal autofocus motor and must be manually focused. Right now, my long tele of choice is an older Nikon 75-300mm f/4.5-5.6 AF Nikkor. There are zero compatibility problems with my current digitals. This is one of Nikon's strong points, as there is a longer history of compatibility than almost any other DSLR maker. http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/compatibility.htm http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/compatibility-lens.htm Just a reminder, except for the new D3, with it's full-frame sensor, all other Nikon DSLR's have a 1.5 crop factor, effectively giving your lenses different perspectives in the digital world. Your 70-210mm becomes a 105-315mm and your 35-70mm, becomes a 53-105mm. As for your last question, yes, you can use an adaptor for a "Canon" XT. Hope this helps.

Question : Need help with a Nikon D40 digital camera and a wide angle lens?
I have a Nikon D40 digital camera and bought a wide angle lens. I don't know a lot about photography, I had to use this kind of camera for a job. My photos are supposed to be set for the widest angle for the lens (24mm). Is there a way to set this up using my camera menu? Help! Thanks.

Answer:
No use the zoom ring on the lens. There will be a crop factor in play here the 24 will be like a 36 mm lens.

Question : Will the lenses and flash bulbs of an older Nikon camera be compatable with the newer digital Nikon cameras?
A family member of mine purchased an older semi-professional Nikon camera in the early '90s, and he was wondering if his flash bulb and lenses, also bought new around the same time, would be compatible with a new digital Nikon camera. Advance thanks for any help provided : )

Answer:
I am guessing you mean speedlight or flash and not flashbulb. There are probably only a small percentage of the folks on here that have actually ever used a flash bulb. But I know where you are comming from ~lol~ It depends on the speedlight and lens but probably so . Any speelight with a low enough sync voltage like the SB-25 can be used I will link a chart so you can check the flash. If you do not know the sync voltage or if the chart says its above 12 V for Nikon ( 6 volt for Canon) get a wein hot shoe to hot shoe safe sync slave and you can use any speedliht with that between the speedlight and the camera Here is the chart http://www.botzilla.com/photo/strobeVolts.html Now as to lenses any lens that is AI, AF, AFd, AFs or AFi can be used On some cameras pre AI lenses can also be used ( D40/D60) Others they cannot mount on unless they have been AI converted Yours are probably AF or AFd if they were made in the 90s as they started making them in 1986 and they are still made today, AI lenses will never autofocus they were manual focuse cameras. In addition only AFs and AFi lenses will autofocus on the D40/D40x or D60 AI lenses will not meter on D100, D90, D80, D79, D60,D50 or D40. They will not matrix meter on the D1 though they will center weight and spot meter, they meter on all other Nikon dSLR I routinely use lenses from the 70s on my cameras ( D40 and D300) . Feel free to email me with specifics on the camera, lens and spedlight you have gotten. BTW That old film SLR still probably takes great pictures also so keep it around in case you get a yearning to shoot film oneday

Question : What cord do I need to connect my Nikon digital camera to my computer?
I have a regular USB cord, but it doesn't fit in my camera. The hole in my camera is a lot smaller. It says AV out, but I don't know what that means. What type of cord do I need, and where can I get it? Thanks

Answer:
Without knowing exactly which camera you have nobody will be able to accurately answer your question. Also, your camera should have come with it's own USB cord. That's the one you should use or one similar to it (using the same connectors).

Question : Do I need a special flash for my Nikon Digital Camera?
I need a larger flash for my Nikon Coolpix 4500 digital Camera with a hot shoe, and would love to be able to use the trusty Vivitar Thrysistor 283 that worked so well with my old SLR, but the Nikon manual warns that flashes not specifically made for Nikon Digital Cameras may damage the camera through some kind of electronic feedback. Are they just trying to sell me a $300 flash unit, or is this a valid concern?

Answer:
Yup, it is possible for an old flash to fry a camera due to the trigger voltages. You can check this site for more info on that http://www.botzilla.com/photo/strobeVolts.html. Cross reference your flash against the table there. In any case, using an older flash would probably mean a loss of i-ttl (for nikon) or e-ttl (for canon). You would need to use auto/manual flash then. In addition, the camera may also act funny (e.g. my old metz on my canon 20D will always give me a 1/200 f5.6 on program mode. I have to use it in manual mode instead.

Question : I have a 18-200mm SLR digital camera Nikon Lens. What teleconverter would work best for this?
I have a 18-200mm SLR digital camera Nikon Lens. I am looking for something that will let me zoom in a lot closer. Is there some sort of teleconverter I could get to attach to it? Or would I have to save up for a 400mm or 600mm lens?

Answer:
You can get a 2X teleconverter which will essentially double your focal length to 400mm. In my opinion the autofocus slows down some but it isn't that bad. At 400mm you should definitely use either a tripod or monopod to steady the camera & lens

Question : Will optional lenses 70-300 etc from a 35 mm nikon 4004 work if i buy a nikon digital camera body?
I have mulitiple lenses from my old 35mm nikon 4004 and I want to use them with a digital camera but I dont know if it can be done...any idea?

Answer:
All of the current Nikon DSLRs except the D40, D40x, D60 are fully compatible (meter and auto-focus) with AF, AF-D lenses from a N4004 including the AF Zoom-NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4-5.6G lens. The D40, D40x, D60 cameras meter but do not auto-focus AF and AF-D lenses.
