Lens Error: Can't use the camera anymore.
I purchase this camera a year ago because it looks sleek and I like the option to take pictures at a very close range such as for products that I can display on the web. After a month of usage, I was starting to experience this Lens Error a few times but I didn't pay attention to it because I thought it wasn't big of a problem.
However, lately, the Lens Error became permanent and I can't use it anymore. I can't send it to Nikon for repair because I just missed the warranty. I can't do anything with it and just got to write it off as a bad investment. However, I will never buy any camera from Nikon anymore. I can no longer trust them with their flimsy cameras.

Take it everywhere but not indestructable
I am on my second S5. And I have grown used to having one in my pocket. It is about the same size as a wallet and ever so useful. The first one died after 11 months of very hard use, the screen went blank and though it still will take pictures it is hard to tell what you have in the frame. No real complaints with it it been dropped more than a first grader playing catch. The second one has developed a dark spot in the picture a day after the end of warranty. It had not been dropped or juggled nearly as much and it still works.
Things I love about this camera: Size and shape, it goes everywhere in my front pants pocket, coat and shirt (careful with the shirt or it comes out when you bend over.) The number Good pictures I have because I carried this thing make it worth all its quirks. The lens is clear under the right conditions.
Cautions: Focus. You have to go slow let it pick its spot before you actually do the picture. Don't hurry it. It does not like low light. Because it is so light and small it is hard to hold steady. I use the self timer all the time on hand held shots. when the lens cover starts to stick use a vacume so suck out the dust as you turn it on and off a couple of times. I would get the leather case, it might add some time to its life.

One star is being nice
I had this for under a month and went out to take photos. I took two pictures and then the screen went black. I took a few more photos after trying to figure out the problem and came home to download black photos and videos.
I did some searching online (which I should have done beforehand) and this is not uncommon. Nikon is not backing up the problem either and charging up to $200 for the fix.
Save your money for a camera that works. This one ain't it!

Nice pictures, but it did leave spots occasionally
I received the camera as a gift. I checked the reviews on the camera and heard about the dots on the pictures (I also read that's why Nikon discontinued this model). Sure enough, after only a few days of use, I had dots in about 5% of the pictures. I didn't want to risk it getting worse, so I returned the camera while it was still under the 30 day warranty. It took amazing pictures, and I hated to part with it, but it's not worth the risk of having to deal with a manufacturer later.

| Editorial Review :
Introducing the first digital camera to remove red-eye effect in the camera--the Nikon Coolpix 5200. This metal-bodied compact digital camera features a thinner body and more stylized feature than its predecessors (the Coolpix 2200 and 3200 models) It offers a 5-megapixel resolution, 3x optical zoom, and image storage via the 12 MB built-in memory or Secure Digital memory cards. Optics and Resolution The 5.0-megapixel CCD lets you capture spectacular images at resolutions up to 2592 x 1944 (15 MB file) and print enlargements at sizes up to 16 x 20 inches. It also features 2048 x 1536 (3MP), 1600 x 1200 (2MP), 1280 x 9600 (1MP), 1024 x 768 (PC), and 640 x 480 (TV) resolution modes. The retractable 3x Nikkor zoom lens has a focal range of 7.8 to 23.4mm (equivalent to a 38-114mm lens in 35mm format), and features aspherical elements and an ED glass element. The Coolpix 5200 also has a 4x digital zoom. Movie Mode Capture video with audio at 30 frames per second (fps) at three different settings: 640 x 480, 320 x 240, or 160 x 120 pixels. Movie length is only limited by the amount of storage you have on hand (either internal memory or external memory cards). More Features The exclusive Nikon In-Camera Red-Eye Fix function analyzes image data and corrects typical instances of red-eye in less than 3 seconds. It's activated when the camera is set to the red eye reduction flash mode, where a the typical pre-flash first minimizes red eye effect. The camera then analyzes the picture using powerful image processing and analysis technology, which is completely automatic and transparent. You have a choice of automatic, preset, and 7 manual white balance modes. Additionally, the Coolpix 5200 divides the shooting area into segments to determine the most appropriate setting for the capture of faithful colors. There's also a white balance bracketing function, which takes a series of three shots at different white balance settings with just a single press of the shutter release button. Other features include: - 1.5-inch, 110,000 pixel LCD and real-image zoom viewfinder
- Built-in flash with red-eye reduction, auto, anytime flash, flash cancel, and slow sync modes
- 15 scene modes, including four with Scene Assist (Portrait, Night portrait, Landscape, Sports); others include Sunset, Close up, Museum, Beach/Snow, Fireworks show, Back light, Party, Copy, Dusk/Dawn, and Night Landscape
- Best Shot Selector (BSS) takes a series of shots, then automatically picks and records the clearest one
- Macro shooting capability as close as 1.6 inches
Printing The Coolpix 5200 is PictBridge compatible, which enables you to transfer pictures from your digital camera to your printer, without a PC or image-editing software. All PictBridge devices share three basic features: camera-to-printer connecting, single-image printing, and uniform error messages (in case something goes wrong) Storage and Transfer Images are stored on either the internal 12 MB flash RAM memory (storing approximately 10 high-resolution images) or on optional Secure Digital (SD) or MultiMedia (MMC) memory cards. Images can be downloaded to either a Mac or PC via USB 1.1 connectivity, which means the camera can be connected to any USB-based Windows Me/2000/XP and Mac OS 8.6 or later computer without installing any software. Power and Size The camera is powered by a rechargeable lithium-ion battery (EN-EL5), which has an approximate battery life of 150 frames. It measures 3.5 x 2.3 x 1.4 inches (W x H x D) and weighs 5.5 ounces without battery or memory card. What's in the Box This package contains the Nikon Coolpix 5200 digital camera, hand strap, USB and A/V cables, lithium-ion rechargeable battery (EN-EL5), battery charger (MH-61), quick-start guide, and instruction manual. Defective in Pink
Nikon Coolpix L15 8MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Vibration Reduction Zoom (Pink) Caveat Emptor on this one.I have been trying for weeks now to get a definitive response from the merchant on whether they will refund the purchase and shipping either way on a camera that arrived flashing "lens error". The phone message left in response to my "800" call said to ship merchandise to address other than appears on invoice.

Not a good seller
It took me almost a month to get the right camera. They send me the wrong item and I even have to pay for the shipping fee to send it back. They promise to return me the shipping charge, but they never did. I called them and left messages but they never reply. Bad service and I will never buy anyting from them

Coolpix L15
The camera is very easy to use. The only downside is it appears pictures taken in telephoto are always slightly grainy looking.

Awesome Point-and-Shoot
I bought this for my mom since she wanted to upgrade to a digital camera. And pink was the desired color, so pink it was. This is an absolute blessing for those not technologically minded. It's less involved than my L11 with the same sized screen. My mom has taken pics, even deleting some, while she has trouble with opening Word on her laptop majority of the time.
Also, there's crystal clear pics that I've come to expect with the Coolpix line and it manages to dim dark shadows indoors automatically. Worth the money if you just want to carry a camera around just in case something strikes your fancy. And it's small enough that it won't take up massive amounts of room in a purse/tote or small bookbag.

Look Elsewhere
Purchased this camera for my wife as a carry around camera, replacing a Kodak EasyShare DX4330. Sadly, the Kodak has a better picture quality. In sunlight and well lit areas, picture quality is very good. Loose the light and picture quality fails fast due to the auto ISO. Lower light pictures are very grainy and have excessive noise. You can run noise reduction at the cost of detail so this is not a good option. Skin tones are blotchy and harsh and edges are not well defined due to jpeg artifacts along them. These shortcomings were tolerable as we shoot with a D200 and others for quality photos but when the lens failed to retract, all bets were off. After searching the web, it became obvious that this was not an isolated problem as there are endless reports of lens failures on this camera. I could get it fixed under warranty but I have to pay postage both ways and who's to say it's won't fail again. I may just cut my losses and get something else. I would not recommend this camera at this time.

Great travel camera
I own several Nikon cameras including the D200 and this is a great addition to my photography collection for use on those quick, last minute trips. I throw it in the car or boat for that unexpected shot you usually miss. This camera has great features, produces good quality photos and you won't be disappointed.

Good camera , poor customer service
I had purchase the P1 a year ago. This will be my second digital Nikon and fourth Nikon camera over the years.
The pros include great optics, numerous photographic effects, vibration reduction with movie mode, fast recover time with mediocre SD cards
Cons which are all minor include, picture dial moves too easily and is bumped easily. Portrait focus is slow and often does not distinguish faces. No viewfinder which renders the camera almost useless in the bright sun with LCD(forcing to take blind shots), WiFi is difficult to set-up.
Nikon service on the other hand is pathetic. Yes the camera was dropped and subsequently the shutter button was damaged. That was the only damage to the camera. It still worked fine only every once in a while the button fell off. I sent in the camera in for repair, the estimate was $150.00, half the cost of a camera. This did not even include a new housing. So this is equivalent to purchasing a $20,000 new car and having to pay $10,000 for a new blinker assembly and with depreciation due to better models being worth $12,000.

Nikon P1 Digital Camera
This point and shoot digital camera is fairly easy to use, however the extensive menu takes some work.
Rating :
Brilliance with simplicity
I've had the Nikon Coolpix P1 digital camera for more than a year now. This was my first digital camera and I'm considerably satisfied with its performance. Being from Florida, I must mention that my P1 has also stood up well in conditions of rain, wind and fog!
The Coolpix P1 has 16 different modes (and further advanced sub-modes!!) for speedy image capture. There is also an AUTO mode with intelligent flash and self-timer options for that quick snap (at 14000ft just before going on your skydive, or for capturing Shamu's nighttime antics :) )
The coolest features of this camera include the brilliant 2.5inch LCD screen, 8MP stunning clarity, In-camera Red-Eye Fix, D-Lighting, and the video capture ability. These features easily compensate for the comparatively lesser optical zoom (the P1 has 3.5x Zoom-Nikkor lens with 4x digizoom). Note that this 3.5x lens is what makes the P1 so compact and small in size. When I opened the package, I was amazed at size of this camera and the ton of features it encased.
The P1 has superior video and sound recording capabilities. I've experimented with the panoramic image mode, sports and night modes, and got excellent results. Photos come out clear and crisp, and there is hardly any blurring when the right mode is used. I've had the Wifi setup go smooth and easy, (must mention that being a CS grad helps) and the transfer speed was great. (However, note that using the Wifi excessively depletes the battery fast.)
Nikon has several new variants in the Coolpix-P line now. These boast of improved features, like the eVR (Vibration Reduction capability in P3) and improved image quality. However, the P1 has been a steady performer, giving exemplary performance, unmatched image quality and quick point-n-shoot ease of use. 5-STARS!!! Thank you Nikon!!
p.s: I recommend getting an extra set of batteries Nikon EN-EL8 Rechargeable Lithium-ion Battery for P1, P2, S1 & S3 Digital Cameras and two of those 1Gb high-speed SD cards for long travel. Happy Photographing!

Question : Do I need a special flash for my Nikon Digital Camera?
I need a larger flash for my Nikon Coolpix 4500 digital Camera with a hot shoe, and would love to be able to use the trusty Vivitar Thrysistor 283 that worked so well with my old SLR, but the Nikon manual warns that flashes not specifically made for Nikon Digital Cameras may damage the camera through some kind of electronic feedback. Are they just trying to sell me a $300 flash unit, or is this a valid concern?
Answer:
Yup, it is possible for an old flash to fry a camera due to the trigger voltages. You can check this site for more info on that http://www.botzilla.com/photo/strobeVolts.html. Cross reference your flash against the table there.
In any case, using an older flash would probably mean a loss of i-ttl (for nikon) or e-ttl (for canon). You would need to use auto/manual flash then. In addition, the camera may also act funny (e.g. my old metz on my canon 20D will always give me a 1/200 f5.6 on program mode. I have to use it in manual mode instead.

Question : I have a 18-200mm SLR digital camera Nikon Lens. What teleconverter would work best for this?
I have a 18-200mm SLR digital camera Nikon Lens.
I am looking for something that will let me zoom in a lot closer. Is there some sort of teleconverter I could get to attach to it? Or would I have to save up for a 400mm or 600mm lens?
Answer:
You can get a 2X teleconverter which will essentially double your focal length to 400mm. In my opinion the autofocus slows down some but it isn't that bad. At 400mm you should definitely use either a tripod or monopod to steady the camera & lens

Question : What type of [digital] Nikon camera is good for photography?
I'm enterested in getting into photography and a nearby store is having a HUGE sale on Nikons!
I would like to know which Nikon is best (for an ameteur as myself).
Thanks!
Answer:
I have a Nikon D40 and I love it. The D40 has a full manual mode, Flexible progam, aperature priority, shutter priority modes. These are the same modes on all DSLR. It also has several other programed modes for things like portrait, night, children etc. As a photographer improves and learnds to use metering better these additional modes seldom get used so they are usually found on the more amature cameras and seen as not needed on the professional cameras. I feel I have a fair amount of experience as a photographer and it performs well for me but I can give it to my 12 y/o grandson if set on program and he can get good usable pictures as well. His photography is improving as he is already learning to use many of the functions himself ( yes I'm a proud granpa) .
I also would not get caught up in the megapixel hype and instead look at the entire sensor issue. Look at the article I linked below The D40 will do everything a beginner to intermediate photographer needs at a great price. It comes with an 18-55 lens. It will let you use any other money to buy more accessories. And by the time you outgrow it cameras will have advanced to the point that most of what is on the market now would be obsolete. I bought a D300 last year and only had a it a few months when the D700 came out. The canon would also serve you well but I am a Nikon person so I suggest them. I have friends that are very happy with thier canon's and take great photos. You will have others that like Pentax and Olympus and they are not bad cameras but if they were in the same ballpark you would see many more professional photographers use them

Question : I have a Nikon D-40 digital camera. What would be best to use for storing and editing my photos?
We just got a new computer with Windows Vista. I have the software that came with the Nikon camera, we also have Windows photo gallery on our computer and a Windows XP version of Adobe Photoshop elements (would that run ok on Windows Vista?) Which program would be best?
Answer:
Interestingly enough, I have Elements 2.0 and it seems to work with Vista just fine.
Elements is not super powerful, but it sure gets many jobs done just fine.

Question : can a nikon slr 35mm lens be used on a nikon digital camera?
i have a nikon n55 film slr and i'm looking to buy a nikon d70 or d80. i have two lenses, one of which is a 70-200mm (af). both the n55 and d70/80 use a 'g' lens mount but i'm wondering if there are disadvantages to using a film lens on a digital camera. thanks in advance!
Answer:
Absolutely .. that is what is so good about Nikon's .. even the old manual focus lenses from 1959 can be used with a little $15 AI modification ... any AI lens forward can be used. I use all my old Nikkor lenses on my D100 and D200 DSLR's.
Since your N55 is a auto-focus camera, all of its lenses will work on the D70 or D80 DSLR
There are NO disadvantages using 35mm Nikon "film" lenses on a DSLR

Question : What cord do I need to connect my Nikon digital camera to my computer?
I have a regular USB cord, but it doesn't fit in my camera. The hole in my camera is a lot smaller. It says AV out, but I don't know what that means. What type of cord do I need, and where can I get it? Thanks
Answer:
Without knowing exactly which camera you have nobody will be able to accurately answer your question.
Also, your camera should have come with it's own USB cord. That's the one you should use or one similar to it (using the same connectors).

Question : I have Nikon coolpix digital camara. Many times red eye coming in photos. How to remove red eye from camera?
Camera Model: Nikon Coolpix S4 digital Camera. I checked the brocedure given along with camera, but I didn't find any option in camera to remove red eye. Please help.
Answer:
The Coolpix S4 has a flash setting for red-eye reduction. In the FLASH Mode Menu, it is the symbol with the lightning bolt and little eye. This setting will give a series of low intensity pre-flashes and the camera also does some in camera processing to remove red-eye before it stores the image.
If this isn't working, try one of the other flash settings or remove it with any good photo manipulation software on your PC.
