A slim, sophisticated digital compact camera, the Nikon Coolpix S7c packs good looks and great performance into compact dimensions, while offering the advantage of vibration reduction and innovations for in-camera image improvement. Combining 7.1 effective megapixels of imaging performance with a 35-105mm (35mm equivalent) Zoom-Nikkor ED lens, the Coolpix S7c can capture everything from wide-open landscapes to tight portraits with outstanding clarity and true-to-life color. It features a large, bright 3.0-inch LCD monitor with a wide 170-degree viewing angle, enabling smoother composition and high-quality playback. The Coolpix S7c offers Vibration Reduction (VR) capabilities to compensate for camera shake and unsteady subjects for sharper, clearer results. High-Sensitivity mode selects the optimal setting up to ISO 1600 when shooting fast-moving or poorly lit subjects. The Coolpix S7c measures approximately 3.9in W x 2.4in H x .08in L, weighs .35 LBS. and is backed by a 1 year warranty.

LOVE it
Excellent camera. I've been buying and testing so many cameras until I found this one, VR great plus, good pictures on low light, good color quality, 3 inch display, fits in my pocket, lots of features...love it, love it. Great looks too

Nikon S7c camera
PRO: compact, small and flat. Large viewing screen. Versitile Handles 8gb SD cards Better than not having a camera but a full size Canon ESO or Nikon D80 are the way to go for real picture quality in fast bumpy conditions like wakeboarding.
Con: Video is at a low resolution. Video imagage stability is shakey. Small on/off button and zoom buttoms are difficult to use. Changing from video to picture must be done by a menu. Slow operation compared to full size cameras. Protect the large screen, we broke ours snow skiing.
Buy 4-6 extra batteries. Internal flash eats batteries quickly.
Docking station is OK but would like cord only option for traveling.

not worth it!
I received this camera as a gift from my husband who had been listening to me say I wanted a smaller digital camera to capture the everyday moments of our three kids. I previously had a Canon Powershot G3 which I loved, although it was bulky and hard to carry around when I had my three small kids with me. That being said, this camera is a waste of money. While it is small and fits nicely in my purse, I have yet to get one nice photo out of it. I consistenly get blurry pictures and all the lower light shots have subject who have these bright white eyes that can not be photo shopped out. I sent it back to Nikon who "repaired" it for free, however the repair did nothing. I have had my pictures from several imporatant occasions ruined by this camera and am planning to trade it in for anthother Canon soon.

an OK camera
pros: small, good in size, I always keep it in my purse. very nice outdoor picture
cons: poor auto focus, slow when taking pics, poor in low light
I never use the ISO mode, hate it!
It seems like the CanonSD800 sounds better!

Not a good camera
I had a Minolta DimageX that died after several years of abuse and great photo's. So looking for a new camera I selected the s7c to use as my next pocket camera based on all great early reviews from the photos sites. I should have waited for user reviews, I hate this camera and the night pictures are bad. I mostly use this for night shots when I am out with friends, dark pictures don't focus well. The red-eye reduction flash is so long that people think you have taken the photo and move by the time the shutter actually goes (if you turn off the red-eye reduction it helps a little, just need to fix it later). The shutter lag is extremely long, it feels like you are there pressing the button for hours - and the button for me is small. Hard to use. So after much experimenting, I am able to get decent night pictures about 75% of the time (I have no complaints about day photos), but if you give this camera to another person to try and take a photo of you, you are almost assured of a bad photo. They will line it up, but it won't come out good, it will be blurry. It takes someone experienced with the camera to get a halfway decent photo.
At this point I long for my 2 megapixel Minolta...

Slow
I had a Nikon Coolpix 3100 and it lasted me 3 years. It held to be very durable after I had dropped in may times (all on accident) and even stood to being passes around and even having a cup of Coca-Cola spilled on in. Finaly I had to retire it though for no other reason that it was just warn out. When I did retire it I decided that I still wanted a Nikon. If my old one had stood up to all of that surely the newer one would as well and then some. Wrong! The battery life is a joke, Lithium E2s hardly last in there and you get no where near the same amount of pictures for the batter life as you would other cameras. After a picture is taken the screen shuts off and you have to wait of it to wake back up before you either take another picture or view the one you just took. I was so thankful that I had the warrenty from Best Buy on it because after only having it 2 months the lends shutter broke and it had not been dropped or anything of that sort. It was not covered by the manufactures warnety but it was with Best Buy. It does take amazing pictures but in my opionion it is not worth all the hastle it takes to get the camera to wake up and do what you want it too.
Rating :
I hate it
This camera is junk. The lens jams, the shutter time is slow and the time between shots with the flash is super slow. The pictures are often dark with a funny hue. The focus is not great either. The only time it does okay is outside in full sunlight.
Rating :
Good for outdoor pictures
Nikon L3 Highs *Sharp, colorful outdoor pictures
Nikon L3 Lows *Battery life is horrible, I had to switch to Energizer E squared to fix this *Focusing takes roughly four seconds *Flash photography leaves foreground overexposed and background underexposed, even after I adjusted the stops.

Does not age gracefully
When I first got this camera, I loved it. It was fast, clear, compact. I recommended it to my mom and she got the same camera. I dropped it one time and the battery case broke. It stays closed... but just barely. When I came home on Christmas break, I saw that my mom's had broken in the exact same way. So I think that's a definite design flaw. It also slowed down considerably within weeks. The time that the flash took to recharge was excrutiating. I missed so many good photo ops because of how long it took between pictures. The batteries also die very quickly in this camera. It is also difficult to find a good setting for indoors. Most of my indoor pictures are really blurry or I look like I'm glowing white from the flash... there didnt seem to be a good in between. Outdoors, it did work ok. I took some decent shots on it.
Overall, I wouldn't recommend this. It's frustrating, and created a bad image of Nikon for me. Even if they do have some nice cameras, I'm switching over to Canon now.
Rating :
not that thrilled
Over the years I have bought and used several different digital camera. This one would have to be my least favorite. If you are taking daylight photos outside it is decent, but if you want to take photos anywhere else forget about it. The photos I take in my own home are all too dark, even with the flash. The dusk/dawn setting is completely useless. I'm not sure exactly what the problem is; maybe the flash is just too weak. Forget about taking anything at night. The photos will not come out at all. The overall picture quality is not all that impressive. Also, the battery life is poor. In general I really wish I hadn't bought this camera. It was a waste of money. I am very disappointed in Nikon. Next time I'll but a Canon.

great photos
this is a great camera if you love to take pictures everywhere. the 5x optical zoom make's a big defference.
Rating :
Bad Picture quality, flash problems.
I bought this camera for my Mom when we went on the trip together. I'm glad I brought my own camera with me as otherwise we wouldn've have any good pictures. The picture quality was really bad, most of the pictures weren't clear. The outdoor pictures were ok, but indoor pictures were aweful in 80% of the cases. The camera is also quite slow to start and takes forever to charge the flash. We also could not set the flash to fire in the auto mode, it just would not fire. The instruction to the camera are very limited and unclear. I've used 6-7 different digital cameras before and this one is the worst I've ever used.
Rating :
Adequate but too fragile
it takes good pictures and much better video than you might expect. I have some YouTube concert footage that is surprisingly clear and the audio is very good.
The optical zoom is good and you can get good enlargements from that but once you get into the digital zoom things start looking bad.
My biggest complaint: The battery cover is as fragile as crystal -- Don't ever drop the camera -- the cover will inevitably crack or chip and that's it -- you'll be using tape to hold it together. I paid $50 to have it repaired once, but this time it's not worth the additional expense -- too bad.
Rating :
Nice Camera - Very Fragile
After less than 500 frames, received "Lens Error," unable to correct without repair. Based on anticipated cost of repair versus current value, will likely throw camera away.

A wonderful camera
I recently purchased a Nikon Coolpix L5 7.2MP Digital Camera with 5x Optical Vibration Reduction Zoom. What can I say? This camera is absolutely awesome! It is light on the batteries, and easy to operate. Do yourself a favor, and skim the owner's manual, in order to take advantage of all the features this camera has to offer. I especially like the broad range of aperture and the ability to rapidly shoot photos, in the sports mode. The Vibration Reduction Zoom does a superb job when engaged. Photos are always crisp, even when lighting conditions aren't well. I would recommend this camera to anyone, from the beginner to the novice professional. I love it!

Too slow!!
Do not buy if you are taking pictures of anything alive!! If you like to wait for 10 secs of smiling before the picture snaps this camera is for you. What a great camera for still shots, but the shutter speed is the slowest I have ever seen. I cannot express enough how slow it is.

My review with corrections
Hi, for those who want to buy this camera, it's great, but I have to correct some of the things said in the previews review.
- You can watch pictures withouth the lens opened. If the camera is tured off, just press the "play" button for 3 seconds and the camera turns on without the lens out. - Also when recording videos, you can zoom while recording, not wile playing it which is different. While you're recording a video you can zoom + or - whatever you desire, and then you see the playback as you record it, but not zooming it because it's a video file...
In other words, great camera for the value, Nikor lenses gives great definition of picture, the red eye fixed works great, and with easy menu manageability (which doesn't work with Sony and others)...

Fantastic! Impossible to beat for the price.
I've had this since February of 2007, so after 20 months of heavy usage, I'm commenting on it.
Few cons: Low maximum ISO setting, flash takes a bit long to recharge ONLY when the batteries get to around or below 1/2 life. And the flash can come off as somewhat weak, but it's not an advanced point and shoot or an SLR, so it's somewhat acceptable for a much less expensive model.
Pros: Everything else! All the shooting modes work great for just about any situation you may find yourself in. The different color modes work flawlessly when in AUTO (only available in AUTO). Videos are pretty fantastic for such a budget minded camera. I've taken many videos from vacations, in the shop at work, at car shows... and all were great. The visuals are sharp as well as the surprisingly good audio quality.
-Outperforms Kodak Z1275/Z1285(twice the MP's of this L6) and is just as good if not better than the Olympus FE-340(which is another great little camera, by the way). All of which I have used, and this Little L6 constantly takes better shots.
I've gotten used to it's capabilities now, so any bad shots are usually my fault.
Great buy! Never had an actual problem. I would highly recommend the L6 as either a first camera or a carry along/back up for just about anyone. No disappointments here.

Great camera
This is actually our second time buying this camera. My 15 year old bought this camera once with her own money and loved it, so we were very sad when it met an untimely end after falling out of her sweatshirt pocket, over a balcony, down 3 stories into a parking lot of a hotel we were at on vacation. Miraculously, the memory card was spared and she was able to pull all her pics from there. When it came time for her to get a new camera she and I both spent alot of time searching different cameras but she ultimately bought this one again. It does everything she needs and she uses pretty much all the features on it. It's very easy to understand all the features and access them. Its a great camera, takes good pics, has decent video for what she needs with her friends and aside from the crash landing we've had no problems with either one.

Questions & Answers
Question : I have a D50 Nikon digital camera, tips on pictures of the night or fireworks?
Going to disneyworld and would like to capture it on camera, but how
Answer:
This can be tricky. IF POSSIBLE, you would get better results with a tripod and a VR lens. Nikon makes VR lenses in 18-135 and 18-200 (among others) that might be useful for this venture.
If you find that the fireworks are all going to pretty much the same altitude, you can pre-set the camera on a tripod, using a bit of a wide angle view to be sure that you capture the whole burst. If they are varied, you can use the tripod with just two legs on the ground or even just one and kind of track the bomb trail until it bursts.
Use the P,A,S or M mode so you have more control and so you can leave the flash turned off. It will pop up if you try this in AUTO.
You will have to use as large an aperture (small numbers) as possible and you will have to use 1-to-2 seconds, maybe even more, at ISO 200 or 400. Familiarize yourself with these adjustments so you can quickly make adjustments if you need to. Once you find a setting that is satsifactory, don't mess with it! Assume that the rest of the shots will need pretty much the same exposure.
I've also taken decent shots of fireworks by laying down on my back and looking up instead of using a tripod.
The D50 night portait mode might be useful for general scenes at night.

Question : Looking fo a good lens for good price for my Nikon digital camera?
this is my camera i needa better lens that zooms in ad out more than the 18-55 lens!!
Megapixels: 6.1 Megapixels
Optical Zoom: 3 X
Lens System Nikon AF-S DX 18-55mm lens
LCD Screen Size: 2.5 in
Recording Method SDHC Memory Card, MultiMediaCard, Secure Digital (SD) Card
Camera Type Digital camera - SLR
Answer:
I suggest you stick with Nikon lenses. The original manufacturers lenses are almost always better. A very popular choice right now is the Nikkor 18-200mm zoom. I provided a link below. It is not the cheapest lens out there but it has a great zoom range. For most people this is the only lens they will ever need.

Question : What is the BEST Canon or Nikon digital camera for MOVIE's w/SOUND and in LONG LENGTHS?
Hey there! I am looking for a Canon or Nikon digital camera that records long, good quality movies with sound. Can you recommend?
Answer:
I would get the Canon Powershot TX1. Most compact digital cameras shoot video at 640 x 480 but this one shoots at 1280 x 720. That's a huge difference. The sound is in CD quality. It can shoot nonstop up to 4GB (which is only 13 minutes as the highest setting).

Question : I have a Nikon D-40 digital camera. What would be best to use for storing and editing my photos?
We just got a new computer with Windows Vista. I have the software that came with the Nikon camera, we also have Windows photo gallery on our computer and a Windows XP version of Adobe Photoshop elements (would that run ok on Windows Vista?) Which program would be best?
Answer:
Interestingly enough, I have Elements 2.0 and it seems to work with Vista just fine.
Elements is not super powerful, but it sure gets many jobs done just fine.

Question : I have a 18-200mm SLR digital camera Nikon Lens. What teleconverter would work best for this?
I have a 18-200mm SLR digital camera Nikon Lens.
I am looking for something that will let me zoom in a lot closer. Is there some sort of teleconverter I could get to attach to it? Or would I have to save up for a 400mm or 600mm lens?
Answer:
You can get a 2X teleconverter which will essentially double your focal length to 400mm. In my opinion the autofocus slows down some but it isn't that bad. At 400mm you should definitely use either a tripod or monopod to steady the camera & lens

Question : Which Nikon digital camera do you recommend?
I want an affordable camera. $500.00 or less but I also want to be able to take good pictures, and I want to be able to control zoom and lighting. I used a borrowed manual Nikon and I really liked it.
the on i used was not digital. i went into a darkroom to do the printing myself and used film. like i said, i am looking for a digital camera. thank you.
Answer:
I would second D40. I searched for nikon digital cameras, within $500 and then ranked by image quality. Nikon d40 seems to be the best bet.

Question : Can I fit my old Nikon lenses onto a new digital camera with or without an adaptor?
The Lenses I have are:
Nikon AF 70-210mm f/4-5.6 D Zoom-Nikkor
Nikon AF 35-70mm f/2.8D
Could they be adapted to a new Nikon digital camera? If so, what models?
Also, would it be possible to somehow use an adapter to put them onto the Cannon Digital Rebel XT?
Thanks.
Answer:
I currently have used my older Nikon AF lenses with success on my D50, D70, and D200 with no problem. The only exceptions to that full compatibility rule would be the current D40, D40x, or D60, as they lack the internal autofocus motor and must be manually focused.
Right now, my long tele of choice is an older Nikon 75-300mm f/4.5-5.6 AF Nikkor. There are zero compatibility problems with my current digitals. This is one of Nikon's strong points, as there is a longer history of compatibility than almost any other DSLR maker.
http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/compatibility.htm
http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/compatibility-lens.htm
Just a reminder, except for the new D3, with it's full-frame sensor, all other Nikon DSLR's have a 1.5 crop factor, effectively giving your lenses different perspectives in the digital world. Your 70-210mm becomes a 105-315mm and your 35-70mm, becomes a 53-105mm.
As for your last question, yes, you can use an adaptor for a "Canon" XT.
Hope this helps.

i have a nikon n55 film slr and i'm looking to buy a nikon d70 or d80. i have two lenses, one of which is a 70-200mm (af). both the n55 and d70/80 use a 'g' lens mount but i'm wondering if there are disadvantages to using a film lens on a digital camera. thanks in advance!
Answer:
Absolutely .. that is what is so good about Nikon's .. even the old manual focus lenses from 1959 can be used with a little $15 AI modification ... any AI lens forward can be used. I use all my old Nikkor lenses on my D100 and D200 DSLR's.
Since your N55 is a auto-focus camera, all of its lenses will work on the D70 or D80 DSLR
There are NO disadvantages using 35mm Nikon "film" lenses on a DSLR
