works fine but no good surprises

I was encouraged to buy a webcam by my stepdaughter. When it came I had to install it twice just to see what it would do. The documentation is scarce and hard to use for a neophyte like me.

And one person I was using it with said it kept cutting out and I had to restart it many times.

I don't think this technology is very mature yet. It works OK but there are pitfalls.

Quickcam Communicate Stx Wb

This webcam was much more than I expected. It was easy to set up, easy to configure and it has an incredible picture. The privacy shade is a great feature, as is the the snapshot button. I would recommend this as a first cam for anybody. Logitech has a real winner on their hands with this line of cameras.

Great Product

Seems to work as expected. I would not keep the software active at startup because of the system overhead.

performs as promised

I bought one for myself and one for my friend who moved to Switzerland. It is fun to be able to talk face to face. The quality of the sound and picture are good. She had a little trouble with the software installation, but all is well now.

LOGITECH Pocket Digital 130 -- There are some moments and occasions you never quite get over not recording with a camera. The Pocket Digital 130 is the remarkable camera from LOGITECH that's small enough to become a bionic sub-unit of your being! Slipped into a corner of your bag or pocket, or held discreetly in the palm of your hand, the Pocket Digital 130 is about the size of a credit card, and slimmer than a pencil. 16MB integrated memory Focus free lens Automatic exposure and white balance Built-in flash USB interface

Could be alot better

I had this camera over a year and i hate it. You have to hold it exactly still for 3-4 seconds and if you move it, it will mess the picture up. you can't take any decent pictures inside and when you take them outside.

If your taking pictures of nature or art or anything that don't have motion and isn't a person then buy it. others wise save your money.

one thing I loved about this camera is that it doesn't take batteries and you can charge it up by putting the usb port into your pc.

Decent pocket camera for the price

I've been using my 130 for well over a year now. Yes, the picture quality isn't the best. It needs to be held very steady, and taking pictures indoors is hit or miss (usually miss) It is quite handy though, and easy to always have around. I haven't found a better slim pocket camera for under $200.

The metal case especially is great, as it means this camera can live with keys and other pocket items that could seriously damage a lesser armored camera.

One can't fault the lack of a screeen for a camera this inexpensive, and the built-in battery is easily enough that you'll almost never have to worry about charging the camera (through the USB connector) leave it plugged in overnight once a month, and you're good to go.

perfect camera for certain needs

if this is going to be the only camera you have, i'd say buy something better. if you already have a nicer manual/digital camera and just want something to play around with, this camera is perfect. i purchased it with the intended use of something small that i would take anywhere, not have to worry about it getting banged up, and be able to take pictures namely at parties or out with friends.

Great Features
- the exterior casing is strong/durable
- the size, fits in your pocket
- the flash works well enough indoors to take pictures of friends, etc
- very fast shot time, less than 3 seconds
- no additional batteries needed, battery life is fairly long
- can take either 40 medium size shots or 150 small, no need to worry about extra memory cards
- software couldn't be easier

don't buy this camera if:
- you want an lcd screen to view pictures
- you want to print the pictures
- if you are going to use it for family vacations, or any trips where you'd want really quality pictures, this is more of a normal day to day camera

the camera is perfect for college students!

Small, durable, inexpensive -- great to stuff in a pocket

I've owned a Pocket Digital 130 for several months now and paid less than $60. For that price you can't beat it. The unit has a rugged steel case and I've yet to run into a problem with the internal battery running low. The camera holds about 45 photos at 1.3 MP.

For outside photos it works great. Under good fluorescent lighting it is adequate. On the negative side, the flash isn't powerful enough to compensate for poor or incandescent lighting and the viewfinder could use some markings to help frame shots.

It's not comparable to a $300 camera, but then it isn't meant to be. It's small, rugged and dependable, and for the going price it's a steal.

Addendum: Since leaving the above review, I've used Picasa 2 to salvage a number of pictures taken in poor light that I thought were hopeless. I highly recommend using it in place of Logitech's bundled software. Picasa is available at no charge from Google.

Great for what it is

Great, small camera. The picture come out pretty good actually. It looks good enough for web pics and picture sharing. Good for a small camera on the go because it is solid and small. This is a camera you can actually put in your pocket. Some cameras are small, but not this solid. They need an updated version that is 3+ MP and more memory.

Best cheap pocket digital!

My family of 3 each has one of these for 3 years now and they are great. Our "good" camera died the night we were packing for Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands. We took our Logitech cameras and got fantastic pictures. We always have them in our pockets for city (we live in NYC) walks - you never know when you'll see something neat. If they get lost (hasn't happened yet), no worries. The usb charge is fast too. Oh by the way, a full charge lasted on our cameras past the 2 week vacation with hundreds of pictures taken.

Dead battery

I can no longer charge the battery. And there is no apparent way to change the battery. This is a piece of junk! Logitech should take it off the market.

Rubber duckie I love you.

I thought my score for this camera was one lost, two killed. then I found No. 3 wedged in the car seat and it works!!!!! It was wedged for two years. and the last two pictures were still good!!. How did I kill those two ?? One got stuck in an escalator and was bent when the guy got it out. The other was hiking with me in freezing weather and was in my rear pocket , could be it got frozen, could be it didn't like that sliding down slopes.
These days I own a Nikon D70. It does every thing a camera should. But it doesn't fit in my pocket. It requires forethought and careful setting up and, gasp, reading the manual to get better pictures. Im even afraid to carry it while riding a bike. I'm medically insured but it is not.
I bought all three Logitechs for considerably less than the current price and was intending to use my phonecam instead of the Logicam, but now I have my Logicam back I am happy and promise to be more careful with it. `

Great gift for a child's first camera!

My ex bought this camera for my daughter who is 13 and promised if she could take care of it he would buy her a higher end camera. She's had it for a year now and it goes everywhere with her. It's great to take to school outings with her friends, to the beach, or anywhere else she wants to go. You have to be in very bright light for it to work, but you can't beat the portability. The quality is good enough for her and she posts pics on her MySpace all day long! LOL If you don't want to spend tons of money the first time out for your kids, this is a great option! It holds up to around 50 pics at a time!

bogus

I bought three of these cameras. The first one was lost when it fell out of my husband's pocket while he was trail riding. The second was lost when it fell out of my husbands truck while he was on a trip. The last one had a problem with the battery not charging. This is when we found out that the camera had an internal battery that was not replacable.
I e-mailed the company and they told me to call the company. I called and called and was never able to get through. I then called the sales branch of the company and he told me that the best time to call was 7:00 am my time before the rush. While this was quite awhile ago. I never did get through to anyone. And I have a worthless camera that was used for less than 6 month.
My advice to anyone looking at this camera is to run the other way.

Question : can i use my webcam to take photos of me?
I have a logitech web cam, but my digital cameras run out of battery and I need a new myspace picture. Can I use my webcam to take the pics?? help plz!!

Answer:
You sure can! If you have anything before Windows XP, you need to use a program that can acquire an image from a TWAIN device. Windows came with a program called Imaging that can do it. If you have XP, just go to your My Computer Icon and you should see your Webcam there and can use it to take a picture.

Question : Why wont my Logitech Quick cam work on any of the USB ports?
I've been having issues with my Logitech Quick Cam, for some time now. I think now, it finally took a dump. I have 4 USB ports on the back of the computer and 2 in the front. I've tried plugging the cam into each one and ended with the same results each time. It keeps saying....... - USB Device Not Recognized : One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfuntioned and Windows does not recognize it. - Recommendation : Try reconnecting the device. If Windows still does not recognize it. Replace the device. I did has it told me, with no luck. The webcam is the only device that Windows does not recognize. Windows does recognize my Sony Cyber Shot Digital camera, each time I upload pictures and videos from it. I used the Logitech Quick cam for Yahoo Messenger, Oohya Chat, Pal Talk and MSN.....Each time the cam crashed. It did work for Webdate.com, when I first bought the web cam. Is the cam done for or is there something wrong with the USB ports?

Answer:
Actually, try downloading the latest drivers for your webcam. If that doesn't work, try a different USB chord if you have one handy. Other than that, call the manufacture of the webcam or check their website, it's possible this is a common problem. Also, be sure it is definately compatible with your version of windows, or mac, or what ever you're using. Good luck!

Question : Which digital pen should I buy my husband for Xmas?
My husband spotted someone using a digital pen at work and has since been dropping hints. As far as I understand it was the type which writes real ink on digital paper (with lots of dots) and contains a tiny camera to capture the written images for download. I can find information on two main products - the Logitech io2 and a Nokia version. Which would be best (or are they in fact the same pen under different brand names)? I think that the Logitech may be discontinued, but I'm not sure. Does anyone have any experience of them - my husband seemed quite impressed, but will they just be consigned to the gadget graveyard within week? Any help greatly appreciated, as I'm more than a bit clueless. Thanks Nokia version: http://www.sysnet.co.uk/servlet/sysnet.mypen.model.GetProductDetails?id=P030
