Decent digital camera with minor drawback

Pros:
- The camera is able to produce high resolution pictures.
- The control panel is easy to navigate.
- The structure is rigid.
Cons:
- The camera is power hungry. It is able to devour a standard NiMH rechargeable battery after a minor usage.
- The video capture is unable to go beyond 35s limit (the device is outdated).
Conclusion: Get a better & modern digital camera if you have money to spend. If you decide to get this gadget, don't forget to bring extra batteries.

both of them are broken

I owned this camera and I used one at work. Both of them malfunctioned after about 1 year (lens extension motor stuck open). Also, battery life was terrible. Constantly changing out batteries even when using 2300 NiMHs. LCD viewfinder was useless outdoors.

it broke

i love the quality of the pictures, and it'sfun to use, but the motor broke beyond repair right after the warantee was over. wouldn't buy another one.

Lens stop working, Twice!

The camera was great when it worked. However, the lens part stopped working twice. The first time the lens just stopped coming out. It cost about over $100 to get it fixed. According to the camera shop, it was some lens part they had to order from Minolta. And then about few months later, the camera was dropped on carpet flooring, and the lens stopped coming out again. That was when we stopped paying to get it fixed.

Other than that, the camera was wonderful. It took great photos, videos, and audios. It lasted about 2 years total. I got it when it first came out, so it was somewhere around $350-$400 dollars.

Great camera for the price

This camera takes great pictures and I love the Area Auto Focus that lets you tell the camera where to focus.

My major problem with it is that the selector dial sticks out and can turn when you put the camera in your pocket. This has happened several times and I think it damaged something because the focus stopped working after 4 months of ownership.

Other than that, it is very slow but takes great pictures.

Editorial Review :

The Dimage F200 is a stylish 4.0 megapixel camera that can go anywhere you do. While the sophisticated automatic functions make photography simple, The Dimage F200 is also packed with functions that allow total control over image making. Features include a 4-megapixel resolution, 3x optical zoom, and digital video that's limited only by your memory card.

Optics and Resolution
Employing the technology from the top-of-the-line Dimage 7Hi, the F200's high-precision electro-optical system is designed to maximize image quality. The system is built around a 4.1 megapixel interline primary-color CCD with 4.0 million effective pixels for fine high-resolution images and print enlargements up to 11 x 14 inches.

The sophisticated eight-element, seven-group 3x optical zoom lens design is only 24mm long--less than an inch when retracted. With a focal range of 7.8-23.4mm, it is equivalent to a 38mm-114mm on a 35mm camera. It can range from wide angle for landscapes and interiors to telephoto for intimate portraits and details of distant landmarks. The zoom lens also employs three aspheric elements to ensure sharp, contrasty images at all focal lengths.

The Dimage F200's digital zoom seamlessly takes over from the maximum focal length of the optical zoom without interrupting the monitor image. The digital zoom can extend the optical zoom's performance by four times in 0.1x increments giving the F200 an equivalent a 456mm lens on a 35mm camera. The combined optical and digital zooms give this compact camera an amazing 12x zoom range.

Storage and Transfer
Images can be stored on either Secure Digital (SD) or MultiMedia (MMC) memory cards; a 16 MB SD card is included. Download image files to either a Mac or PC via USB connectivity, including any USB-based Windows Me/2000/XP and Mac OS 8.6 or later computer without installing any software.

Movie and Audio Modes
The Dimage F200 is not limited to recording still images. Video with audio can be captured at either 160 x 120 or 320 x 240 pixel resolution. The length of movie clips is only limited by the memory card capacity. The new Direct Video function allows the camera to be connected directly to a VHS or DVD recording deck.

The audio recording mode records up to 180 minutes of audio. Voice memo allows up to 15 seconds of audio to be attached to an image when it is captured. The audio-caption function can attach an audio track to any recorded still-image. The audio tracks can be played back in the camera.

More Features
Two copy functions allow image files to be duplicated in camera. An improved e-mail copy function allows a still image to be copied and resized to 640 x 480 or 160 x 120 pixels so that it may be attached to an e-mail message or posted on the Internet. The standard copy function makes a direct copy of a file onto the same or another memory card.

White balance controls how the camera interprets the color of the ambient lighting. Auto white balance compensates for changes in lighting automatically. Four preset white-balance settings, daylight, cloudy, tungsten, and fluorescent, can be selected for specific light sources. And for critical control over color, the custom setting allows the camera to be calibrated to the lighting conditions at the scene. All the camera's white balance controls are available for movie recording.

  • 1.5-inch LCD monitor.
  • Built-in flash with auto, red-eye reduction, and fill flash modes.
  • Three metering modes: multi-segment, center-weighted, and spot.
  • Four exposure modes are available: program, aperture priority, shutter priority, and manual.
  • Camera sensitivity can be set to auto or to one of four ISO equivalent levels: 100, 200, 400, or 800.
Power, Size, and Contents
The camera is powered by a 2 AA batteries (NiMH rechargeable batteries and charger included). It measures 4.3 x 2.1 x 1.3 inches and weighs 6.5 ounces. This package includes the Dimage F200 digital camera, 16 MB SD memory card, 4 AA NiMH rechargeable batteries and battery charger, USB and A/V cables, hand strap, sports case, ArcSoft Funhouse CD-ROM, and Dimage Software and Viewer CD-ROM and USB drivers for Windows and Mac.

Customer Review :

Hidden gem, the REAL Best Buy!

I had to make a choice between the F300 and the F200.
I chose the F200 for the following reasons:
- Unlimited movie mode
- Separate zoom lever
- Redefined button-layout
- Anti-reflective coating on LCD
- ISO800
Before I bought the F200 I got a Canon S400 (IXUS 400). I changed to the F200 for the following reasons:
- Full manual controls in an ultra-compact metal body
- Clean and VERY SHARP! pictures in all situations
- Outstanding macro pictures, SUPER macro mode!
- Nimh battery support
- Faster and smaller SD-Cards
(- and the unlimited movie mode of course.....)
- Information display on top of camera with battery meter!

Of course, there are some netagive issues, as with every photocam:
- No AF Assist lamp
- Higher than average noise from ISO400.
- LCD gets grainy on low-light situations
- A bit slow start-up time and zoom

Despite of the lack of an AF-assist lamp, the flash is quite strong! I don't really need that lamp. On my S400 the camera took the same quality photos without the lamp as with the lamp.

The photos are REAL sharp! I made comparisons between F200 and S400 photo qualities:
- F200 is much sharper and detailed
- The colours on F200 are more natural then the ones on the S400
- However, S400 took a bit better pictures in low-light. But the F200 is still better than average. Much better than the Sony P-series.

I was afraid from the slowness of the lens. Doesn't really a matter, believe me! It is acceptable, don't let you fooled by some negative reviews about how slow the F200 is. This is NOT THAT BIG PROBLEM, believe me.

Reviewing images is fast and a pleasure.
Slideshow has many settings, it is very useful if you plug it onto the TV.
I can record about 15-20 mins at the 320 res. and 40-45 mins at the 160 res. movies on my 256 Mbyte SD-Card. A REAL PLEASURE!

One of the big problems was that the F100 get turned on accidentally. This is not with the F200. It's build quality is strong as it can be!

All in all: a great camera, I just simply cannot give it a lower mark than a five.
It's not only good for point & shooters, it is a super choice for serious amateurs also since it has aperture, shutter priorities, manual white balance and EVERYTHING.

A HIGHLY RECOMMENDED CAMERA!
The price is low, I think this is the BEST BUY compact camera of 2003!

I have not tried completely the camera, but this camera has many options that don't have other conventional digital cameras. I dont finish to read the manual.
It has unlimited movie time (limited only by the memory)
Slideshow is very useful if you plug it onto the TV, and you can record a 15 seconds commentary for a picture.
It is a very great choice if you are finding more that a symple digital camera. It is a highly recommended camera.

Question : I have a konica minolta digital camera I need usb cable for DiMAGE E500 so I can download pictures?
I have a konica minolta digital camera I need usb cable for DiMAGE E500 so I can download pictures?

Answer:
You can probably use a cable you already have. I lost the cable to my Palm Tungsten 2. It has a USB connector on one end and a mini firewire on the other. I tried using a cable from my external DVD burner, and it worked perfectly.

Question : z6 konica minolta digital camera?
What would a Konica Minolta Z6 cost in the U.K.? (my wife wants one). Where could I get one from and are they any good? Thanks for looking in.

Answer:
This site has them and the prices vary : http://www.mywebcashstore.com/henry5845 You have to click on Electronics 4 U. I hope this helps.

Question : konica minolta dimage x50 digital camera?
my camera`s LCD got problem suddenly.. the screen becomes all white... i wanna get it repaired but i dun want to send it back to the factory as it normally takes a very long time... where can i get this kind of camera repaired in singapore? or where can i buy konica minolta digital camera in singapore? i wanna buy the same model again...

Answer:
Unfortunately this camera has long been discontinued. Although Sony assumed service and support for Konica-Minolta when they bought the camera business from them in 2006, its unlikely that they will service a 4 yr. old camera. You might check the Sony web site and see what they offer that would be comparable to your X50.

Question : In your opinion or from reviews overall how do you rate the follwing digital camera companies best to worst.?
Cannon, Fujifilm, Kodak, Nikon, Olympus, Panasonic, Pentax, Sony ( I have omitted companies such as: Casio, HP, Samsung) becuase they don't really make their own camera lenses per say. And that they clearly aren't among the upper tier of camera company groups. Although they make good camera's just not part of that select group of pioneers in the camera world. As well as ...Konica minolta just becuase they arent that common.

Answer:
Canon and Fujifilm and Nikon are probably the best. The canon powershot, the fujifilm finepixZ, and the nikon coolpix are great choices for compact cameras. The finepix is pretty, clear, and is probably my favorite, but all three are good. It is simply a personal choice.

Question : Where can I find a manual on line for Polaroid Digital Camera PDC5070?
I found the manual on line once, but I haven't recently been able to locate it. What I want to know is do I have to depress exposure button half-way down to have a photo in focus? The photos I've taken have been fuzzy - nothing like the Konica Minolta Z1 I had at one time. I suspect the PDC5070 is the digital equivalent of a box brownie.

Question : What is a good digital camera that DOES NOT...?
give a blur, look unsharp,or take forever to take...I bought a 700 dollar digital camera and it sucks, I mostly take pics of my kids, but when I try to get a pic it is always blurry!!! My old camera was konica minolta that took great pics, but its no longer working and we all know what happened to konica...I need a good camera! Help.

Answer:
I think the main problem would be that your cameras lag time to take the picture the instance you press the shutter button is the Culprit to your unsharp, blury pictures. Because it would not take the picture unless your camera see's the subject in focus. Or that there was not enough light to give your photo the correct hand holdable exposure. Setting up your camera to a higher ISO might do the trick, but beware of the noise. Try some of these alternatives. If you want to salvage what you already have this is what I would do. For about $20 bucks you could get a wireless flash booster. Set your camera to manual. Set the shutter speed between 1/60th to 1/25 sec. Set your aperture to f 8. Set your camera flash to its lowest setting. Set the flash booster so that its trigger sensor sees the camera flash go off. Then this would give you great pictures of your kids. This would also alow for placment of the flash way above the camera lense to eliminate red eye. And add that natural lighting effect. On a budget and want a camera that would last a very long time: If you want a camera that could track your subjects movements and take the picure while still in focus. I would get the Nikon D40 ($600). Available in December. Very light easy to use digital SLR. Cons would be that its a bit on the big side. Most kids would be aware that they are being photographed and most shots would be mostly posed. Unless you invest in a longer telephoto lens like the 70-200 f2.8 AF VR. On a budget and want a camera that would last a very long time (pocket size): I would get the Canon SD900 ($425). Titanium shell will last for years. Image Stabilizer to take crisp hand holdable shots. Cons would only be that it has a small 3x optical zoom which would mean that you would have to be pretty close to take a great quality picture. Not too big, not too limited lens, not too expensive, not bad camera: Olympus SP-510 ($260) Fast response time, long 10x zoom lens and online support on how to take better pictures. This camera design was invented by Olympus. It was such a nice design that other manufactures such as Minolta and Kodak. None of them perfected it except Olympus. With rubber gromets around the lense and battery door. It keeps the dust out. And a digital image stabilizer to help keep the subject in focus. And its 10x optical zoom to capture candid shots of your kids in the moment. Distraction: Keep your kids from moving too much by giving them a toy that will allow them to take pictures as well. Give them a kid proof digital camera and watch them take pictures of you and what they think are picture worthy. Then take the digital camera you have now and take pictures of them. And if money is no object: I would get a Nikon D2XS ($4,700). Camera capable of taking pictures only when in focus. Not only that, you could set up the camera to take pictures when a subject crosses a predetermined focusing zone that you have set up. For example if you set the camera to take the shot when someone crosses 15 feet away and is in focus, the camera will not take the shot if the the subject is 14 feet and not in foucus. It will only take the shot if the subject gets to the 15 feet focused zone. Great camera if your kid happens to run as fast as that little boy in the movie "The Incredibles". I know that this might be overkill, but I just love cameras. Hope this helps.

Question : Why can't I get my computer to read pictures from my digital camera?
It's an HP Photosmart M425 and it always works just fine when i transfer my pictures to my computer (it's a Dell Dimension 4700, if that matters), but I put a memory card with pictures taken by a Konica Minolta Dimage E500 in it, and the computer won't connect to it or read the pics. The cards are exactly the same type and size, and both cameras show the pics from the other ones card when I switched them, so why can't the computer read them? I don't have the right kind of mini usb cable to plug in the Konica, which is why I am trying to figure out how to do it this way.

Answer:
you can probably get the mini usb from ebay I did for 99 cents go to smartcomputing.com techsupport to solve your problem

Question : question about the Konica Minolta G600 digital camera?
I have a konica minolta G600 digital camera that I purchased used a couple of years ago for less than $100 on ebay. recently though I've seen the same exact camera on Amazon and other sites for prices reaching nearly $900. The SAME freakin' camera. I'm just trying to get an idea where this insane price jump came from. please respond only if you can give a relavant answer. Thank you

Answer:
The G600 is an older camera (nearly three and a half years), thus older technology. Statistics on the camera. http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/compare_post.asp?method=sidebyside&cameras=konicaminolta_dimageg600& show=all Refurbished G600's cost around $400. You seem to have found a deal. The big plus for this camera has to do with the fact that it can use both the most popular SD memory card and the propriatary Sony Memory Stick. In addition is has one of the largest sensors found in P&S digital cameras

Question : Why my 2GB SD card no longer works in my digital camera?
I have a Konica Minolta digital camera. My 2GB sd card which is probably about 6 months old, used to work in my camera, but now it just says "Unable to use card." BUT the card still works on other card readers, such as my printer. And no, the disk lock is not on. I tried another 2GB card in my camera, and it works fine. Why can't my camera read that SD card? Does anyone have any insightful answers or solutions to my problem?

Answer:
format the card in the camera
