The DiMAGE Z3 is a high-speed, 4-megapixel digital camera with a 12X optical mega zoom lens. With a CCD-shift Anti-Shake System, the Z3 gives you amazingly steady and reliable telephoto shots even at the maximum magnification. Plus, Rapid AF ensures that you capture moving subjects clearly. The DiMAGE Z3's advanced, high-sensitivity 4-megapixel CCD combines with Konica Minolta's proprietary CxProcess II technology to give you images as beautiful as those you see with your own eyes.Despite its powerful 12X optical zoom, the Z3 sports a lightweight, compact body with a stylish, modern design. An ergonomic grip makes it easy and comfortable to carry and the large, intuitive button layout keeps you in confident control at all times.

Good for a grab-and-go

The Z3 is a great little camera; I bought it 3-4 years ago to tide me over until DSLRs came into my price range (which they did a couple of years before I had expected). Still I find the Z3 is a handy grab-and-go camera when I don't want to be bothered with my DSLR (maybe when I get an 18-250 lens for my DSLR the Z3 will be retired---maybe). I also like the ability to use it as a video camera, though the duration that will fit on the SD cards is not all that long.

The long zoom range (35mm equivalent of 35-420) makes it an incredibly versatile camera and with the anti-shake feature the telephoto range is usable. The camera provides a range of manual adjustments that rival those found on SLRs. The image quality is good. If the camera had an optical viewfinder rather than an EVF I would rate it 5 stars (the best that there is for its niche); as it is the EVF makes it hard to see the fine details in a shot sometimes. I don't use the LCD on the back for shooting since I don't like taking pictures with the camera at arms reach.

Konica Minolta Dimage Z3 Digital Camera

I purchased this Dimage Z3 Digital Camera as a replacement for an identical one I had that got damaged beyond repair. My original had gone to places as far reaching as Churchill ,Canada to see the Polar Bears, and Africa on safari. The photos I have taken have been really excellent and often as good, or better, than some taken with much more expensive SLR cameras. The anti- shake technology works very well. I'm not a pro, but this camera makes me look like one.Konica Minolta Dimage Z3 4MP Digital Camera with Anti Shake 12x Optical Zoom

Enjoyed camera - untill 2 yrs later - Repairs would cost $211

I used this camera a lot. It took great pictures. My wife is visually impaired and took great pictures ( this was the first camera she was able to do that with ). BUT two years later the zoom stuck in one position, sent it to Sony for repairs and was quoted $211 and some change. NO THANK YOU!!

Great manual controls. Automatic lags.

If you like manual photography on a budget, this camera is for you. It's cheaper than a real SLR, but offers many of the same features.

In full manual mode, the shutter is lightning fast. There's no delay. You can use this for sports photography. The macro mode is amazing.

The downside? The flash is weak and the flash angle is bad. To make best use of the internal flash, use a diffuser (or bounce the flash using a bit of paper) and slow down your shutter.

The white balance needs to be reset whenever your lighting changes. Don't trust the auto mode.

Don't trust most of the automatic features for that matter unless your are taking photos in bright sunlight. They frequently choose the wrong settings and they add a lot of delay to your pictures.

The low light performance of this camera is amazing for its size (in manual mode). You can take flashless photos thanks to the large sensor size and anti-shake technology. I've handheld shots for a second or more with no visible blurring.

All in all, the manual controls are the only reason to get this cameral. If you like having control over your camera as much as I do, this camera is best in class. If you want to point-and-shoot in anything other than bright light, look elsewhere.

Needs super batteries

I deleted my earlier review of this camera where I gave it a 1 star because it won't power on whenever I changed the batteries. After changing the batteries to a more powerful one, it was OK. I changed the batteries from the normal AA alkaline, to rechargable AA Ni-MH, and now I use industrial AA alkaline. The camera itself is not bad. It's easy to use (except in low light) and prints out beautiful pictures. It's just very picky with batteries. (This camera refused to power on when I was about to hike on the glacier in Alaska with my family and a bagful of AA batteries I bought with me were all useless.) Since this camera is no longer being produced, you are on your own if you have problems and no longer under warranty. Use your judgment.

Try Something Else

This overall, is not a really great camera. You can probably find a better value for your money elsewhere. I just wanted something to take out to the bars and get pictures with my friends, and it was always a hassle getting it to actually take the picture. No matter what setting (night was the worst), you need to hold the button down for 2-5 seconds before it flashes. Everyone would end up breaking their smile by the time it took. Also, not it's fault, but I didn't realize it took AA batteries; it wasn't a Lithium Ion battery. If the camera was NOT EVEN ON, it would drain the batteries. It would literally drain the batteries within a day if they were in the camera, no matter if it was on or off. I did a workaround by placing one battery in the wrong way. As you can imagine, going to the bars and constantly flipping one battery was not my ideal camera.

E500 Battery Drain and inconsistent focus

Do not buy this camera. Battery drain is fast even with rechargables. Regular AA batteries do not even work in mine. New batteries will not even power it up. I'm going to buy more of the most powerful rechargables and keep many nearby. My wife hates camera, will not use.

Many times it loses its focus ability. You have to power down and back up again and cross fingers. When it works, it takes good pictures, but frustration level is high. Shutter lag is bad, you will miss the action. Stay away.

It works for me, even after hitting the highway at 55mph

I bought this camera a few years ago but, after my recent experience with it, decided to write a review.

I never had battery issues, as I started off right away with AA Nimh rechargeables. I don't know why anyone would use anything but rechargeables nowdays.

I've found the camera easy to use. The only things I don't like are the macro feature is useless, there's no viewfinder, and the microphone for video is useless.

Having said that, we were in Minneapolis after Easter and, while loading up the car, I put the camera on the roof so I could have hands free to put the bags in. About two miles down the road, going 60mph, I heard something rattling on the roof. The camera! I started to slow down, and, in the rear view mirror, saw a silver flash as the camera flew off the roof. More silver flashes as it hit the pavement and lay in the middle of the lane with cars whizzing over it.

We turned off on a frontage road and went around, expecting the worst. Fortunately, no one had run over it. The batteries were gone, although we did find one in the ditch. The SD card was halfway out and the zoom button was also missing. I put fresh batteries in it, pushed the SD card back in, closed it up and turned it on...It still worked! It still takes great pics, although I have to use a pin to push the zoom contacts in or out.

This is one tough little camera.

I am disapointed

Three years ago I bought a refurbished Minolta Dimage F100 camera. It was a 4MP caera that in my opinion was the best. Funny thing is that I never used it in 4MP and took all my pictures in 3MP. After 2 years of ROUGH usage by my son, my wife and I, it got stolen. I wanted another camera that was as good, and with my previous experience with a Minolta, I decided to buy a new Minolta camera that fit all my requirements: sd memory, aa batteries, Minolta, at least 5 MP. I bought this piece of ____.

At first it was great. Then it got bad, just like everyone else reviewing, blurry pictures, grainy pictures, battery drainage, etc...

After playing around with it, I did find fixes for the problems. The blurry image comes from a very slow shutter speed in auto mode. Toddlers will not freese for you to take their pictures. I needed to take pictures of my kids in action. I no longer use auto. I set it to active. I set the ISO manually to 200 to fix the blurriness. I lowered the color saturation to medium to help with the grainy pictures. As for battery drainage, I had previously bought a bunch of rechargeable batteries that I keep in my camera bag.

All those fixes make the camera usable again. But the best solution to the problems I will do in a month or so. I will buy a Canon A620. It may be bigger, but my wife will stop complaining that she hates the camera.

This camera was attatched to me ALWAYS!

Hi, I just received a new camera as a gift so I am selling my Kinoca Minolta camera, but I have to tell you in all honesty I AM IN LOVE with this camera.
It has a lower mega pixel then you can find in newer models, but you would NEVER know that from looking at the photos it takes. They look like professional photos! You WILL be thrilled with the ease and quality of this camera! I received more compliments on photos taken with this camera than any other photos I have ever taken! It is a WONDERFUL camera and I guarantee you will love it!

We love this camera

Rumor has it Konica Minolta is getting out of doing digital cameras which is really a shame. This camera been wonderful since we got it 2 years ago. The first year we had it we stored over 2000 pictures on our computer making it easily pay for itself when compared to the standard camera it replaced.

This camera takes crisp, quick pictures. For me the lag time is most important as we have small children. If the camera doesn't take the picture quickly it is useless. You do need to practice getting the camera locked into focus before taking the picture in order for it to be very fast but overall I have been able to take wonderful pictures of my children.

The zoom and macro features are wonderful as well allowing me to get close up pictures and details on things that can be difficult with other cameras.

The only downside could be the size of the camera as it cannot fit into a pocket. But for us this is actually a plus as it is not easily lost. For us, the zoom and the quality of the pictures make the bulk worthwhile.

I highly recommend this camera.

THE Best Camera for all ages and stages

I got this camera for Christmas in 2005. It is my first digital camera and I must admit that when it dies, I will be so upset! I've taken this on two trips to Hawaii and have awesome pictures every time!! I even get great pictures of my animals around the house. I also took it with to both my proms and have excellent pictures!

The Pros: Great zoom, Not small enough to lose, Great options I actually use, Doesn't eat up batteries

The Cons: Nothing comes to mind!

great camera

For anyone that doesn't need to print anything bigger than 4x6 or 5x7 this is the camera for you. It is great for beginners and anyone that might want to learn how to adjust the F-stop and shutter speed for more interesting photos. This is my 2nd one, I broke the first by accident. My wife is a novice and loves this camera, all she has to do is put it on auto and forget about it. And the pictures come out perfect no messing with it.

Awesome little contraption!

I bought my camera in 2004 hot off the manufacturers line! I have loved it since day one and HATE to part with it, however in the past 2.5 years I have learned SO MUCH about photography from this little camera. I am ready for something with a little more zoom, amd definately more megapixels, however, for portrait type pictures, NOTHING I have found will beat the quality and ease of this camera! I have decided to add additional cameras to my collection, but I'll hold on to this gem until she cant snap anymore!

Take your digital photography to a new level with the feature-packed and easy-to-use DiMAGE S304, which features a high-image-quality 3.34-megapixel 1.125-inch CCD. An all-glass lens, 7.15-28mm (35-140mm in 35mm equivalents), with 4X optical zoom, sets this camera apart from the competition with a combination rarely found in compact digital formats. An anomalous dispersion element and twin double-sided aspheric elements work together to minimize chromatic aberrations and reduce curvilinear distortion, giving you crisp, accurate, edge-to-edge imaging. Compose these images with the 1.8-inch, 122,000-pixel color LCD monitor or use the optical viewfinder for SLR-style shooting.

For professional results with the point-and-shoot style operation of the S304, you can choose from five pre-set modes: macro, portrait, landscape, night portrait, and text. For more creative shooting, use a wide variety of adjustable features, including manual focus, selectable ISO, custom white-balance controls, exposure compensation and bracketing, and a digital-effects control that allows adjustment of color saturation, contrast, and sharpening. A movable focus point allows for off-center compositions. Multisegment metering technology provides accurate exposures. Four resolution modes cover the range from film quality photographs to images for e-mail. Movie mode allows 60 seconds of live action and a voice-memo feature helps identify your work.

The DiMAGE S304 comes complete with 16 MB CompactFlash card, A/V cable, USB cable, Minolta Image Viewer Utility CD-ROM, four AA alkaline batteries, lens cap, and neck strap.

Dimage S304 3.2M

I had the EXACT same experience as the Feb. 16 2004 reviewer! The only difference is that my Dimage had to be sent back to the factory straight from the box because it was filled with fine lint like particles. It NEVER has worked properly.....I will never purchase a Minolta anything! ever! and I'll tell all my friends....

Rating :

a mediocre product for such a price. excellent if cheap.

The Minolta s304 is a fine camera if you can get it for significantly less than it's current retail price. The 3.3 megapixel resolution makes for some excellent daylight shots, and the 60 second movie recorder renders superb quality avi files. However, the camera suffers excessively from camera shake in low-light conditions. In addition, the manual setting for taking shots is difficult to manipulate...even for the intermediate level photographer. Night-time shots suffer from imbalance in color levels

Rechargeable Ni-MH batteries are an absolute must for this camera. My unit came with 4 AA alkaline batteries which expired after roughly 45 minutes of usage. I've owned my current set of 1850 mAH Kodak Photolifes for roughly a year now and they've consistently given the camera an operational battery life 2-3 days with regular on/off usage.

While the s304 has a workable zoom it fails to give adequate focus (in both automatic and manual modess), rendering blurred images - especially to subjects taken with the digital zoom.

I won't recommend this camera to a first-time buyer.

Good Camera (if/when it works!)

Had this camera for a little over a year and it's a piece of junk. From day one it has never worked right. At least 90% of the time it locks up when I turn it on; the red LED light stays on and I have to open the battery door for thirty seconds to reset the camera. Sometimes when I change modes it locks up. I have no confidence that it will work when I turn it on. When it does "boot up" correctly I jump for joy (is this how it's suppose to be?). This thing also uses a lot of power, my 1800ma NiMh batteries (4 AA) only lasts about 25 pics at medium resolution and small image size. It's a shame because this camera is constructed well (metal case), takes terrific pictures (when it works), zoom is great, LCD screen is very clear for it's size, uses easy to get CompactFlash cards and batteries. It's out of warranty right now and I don't think it's worth trying to repair so it'll get tossed into the rubbish can; what a waste! Maybe I just got a lemon when I bought it but I will never buy another Minolta digital camera again, this S304 really tarnished Minolta's reputation in my books. I won't tell everyone "don't buy it"......it's up to you, maybe you won't get a lemon like I did.

This is my second digital camera. My first being Sony Maciva. This camera is great and very easy to use. I was at first worried about battery life but I am very please with performance of batteries. I would recommend a charger and only high quality batteries. I also bought a 64 & 128 memory card. I never run out of space.
Highly recommend.

I would buy it again.

I looked at many many digital cameras before buying this one. I finally decided to buy it because it looked like it had everything I needed and it was cheaper than others. Well, I am really happy with my purchase. I bought this camera in 11/01 so I have had it for a long time. I have taken it to Hawaii and Florida and just around town and it has not failed me yet.

Indoor pictures are not great with this camera but they are not horrible. I have taken some professional looking pictures with this camera and look at them on the computer daily. I would not even think about using regular batteries with it though, that would be a joke. This camera does suck battery juice like crazzzy.

I enjoy taking pictures and this camera really has been great. I use webshots on my computer and I have my pictures of Hawaii cycle through on the desktop everyday, actually every 15 minutes. People are always commenting on them asking if they are professional pictures. I even printed some of them out and they looked great.

If you do not have a lot of money to spend and want a pretty good camera I would go with this one. It really has just about everything. ...

This is a hybrid SLR-like digital-camera. Because it has a larger lens, it can attain a 12x optical zoom that yields a 35mm-equivalent focal length of 35 - 420mm (wide-angle to long telephoto). Add a 4x digital-zoom you can zoom up to a simulated 1680mm! The DiMAGE Z5 uses Konica-Minolta's proprietary CCD-shift Anti-Shake function, convenient for telephoto shots and dimly lit situations. Anti-Shake compensates to minimize the effect of camera shake, allowing photographers to shoot with shutter speeds four to eight times longer (2-3 stops) than on cameras without an Anti-Shake function. The DiMAGE Z5 can correct shaking without increasing shutter speed or raising ISO sensitivity, factors that increase image noise. The CCD-shift method doesn't require extra correction lenses like optical anti-shake systems, so the DiMAGE Z5's body remains compact and light. The DiMAGE Z5's Anti-Shake system is effective in correcting both the fine movement of pressing the shutter-release button and the larger and slower movements of the user's body. In addition to 5 -megapixel still pictures (up to 2560 x 1920), it takes movies in VGA size (640x480) at 30 frames per second for smooth video with sound rivaling TV images. With fast automatic focus and exposure modes (with manual override capabilities), this camera is easy to use while allowing for some outstanding creative opportunities. Copy single or multiple images to the same or another memory card PictBridge compatible Dimensions (WxHxD) - 4.3 x 3.1 x 3.3 inches (108.5 x 80.0 x 84mm) / Weight - Approximately 12.0oz. (340g)

Best camera I've ever owned, but not quite fulfilling expectations

Having owned only a Fujifilm Finepix A200 before this and being all of sixteen years old, I consider myself to be an amateur in the professional camera field; however, I have had this camera for almost four months now, and I have noticed some shortcomings.
For months, I had been eyeing the Canon S2 IS. I had done extensive online research, and that seemed to be the best camera in the field: it was definitely an improvement from my old camera (which was a PHD camera: Push Here, Dummy), yet at the same time was not so complicated that I, the amateur, would not know what to do with it. I waited with bated breath on Christmas Eve, hoping for the camera of my dreams and fearing that it would prove too expensive for my parents to afford (as it turned out, my father had rallied all twenty or so of my aunts, uncles and such and had collected a contribution from each of them; that camera was the reason I got no other gifts that year). When the time came, I reverently opened an appropriately-shaped box with my name on it, hoping against hope...and all of my expectations came crashing out the sky, trailing smoke, as I saw something that, while still a camera, was definitely not the Canon S2 IS of my dreams. The first thought that ran through my disappointed brain was, "Oh, no! Dad's gone and gotten some crappy Japanese look-alike!"
The Dimage Z5, obviously, is neither crappy nor a look-alike; it does, however, lack a fold-out screen, which is not a great loss, but there have been numerous times when that nifty little feature would have come in handy. It works beautifully in bright sunlight, and the colors are perfect; however, it has trouble focusing when I zoom all the way out to 12x, requiring me to set up my tripod for want of a steady hand, and when I use the zoom under dimly-lit conditions it cannot focus at all. Having had no experience with other brands and types, I cannot say whether this tendency is a shortcoming or not, but I suspect that it is.
One of the reviews I have read mentioned a lack of explanation concerning technical jargon. I find that I must agree on this point ("What on earth does 'telephoto' mean??"). While paging through the included instruction manual, I was frequently forced to ask my father what some term or other meant and which feature did what. But this lack is not serious.
I must admit that I love almost everything about this camera. I am planning to be a professional photographer someday, and this camera seems a good place to start. I am disappointed, however, that there seems to be no fisheye lens available for this model. And, relevant or not, I feel that I have to include the following:
My father paid almost $500 for the Dimage Z5 a little over four months ago.
Currently, the Dimage Z6, a newer model, is going for about $250, and the Z5 is not even available straight from Amazon.

Go get yourself a Z6.

Dead failed after six shots.

After taking about six shots the camarea developed a black area on the right side of the image. I purchased a Canon XT made in Japan not China. I live in Toronto Canada and the camera was shipped surface using United Postal Services (UPS) they charged me CND $44.00 in brokerage fees, this was on top of the $29.00 I paid for shipping (this was refunded) and I also incured CND $22.00 for return shipping. I still have to figure out how to get the GST and PST returned.

I did receive a prompt refund on returning the camera. Be aware of the costs when purchasing on line outside Canada. I was told that there would be no brokerage costs if the item had been shipped by air.

Buy Canon S2 IS instead

I have had other super zoom cameras from other brands. I kept this Z5 for 3 months only primarily for one reason: Noise

In case you don't know what noise in photography means, it looks like random sand grain on a low-light photo. Konica Minolta Z5 is very very bad in terms of noise. Don't expect you can take anything decent with Z5 under in-door scenario without flash.

Other features work fine, such as the anti-shake feature and long battery life (due to AA sized battery). However, the ultimate outcome of a camera is the image. If the image quality is bad (mentioned above), other nice features seem insignificant.

Great Camera, for what it is

I bought the Dimage Z5 after holding and trying the Canon S2IS, a Kodak, Sony, and a Lumix. I liked it. I still do. Previously, I used Canon and Nikon 35mm and APS cameras. I still have them, and meant to still suse them. But the Z5 was so good, and so convenient, I rarely am even tempted to go back to the film. The sharpness and colors are unbelievably good. It is hard to understand those who feel otherwise, unless there are major variations.

There are a few weak spots. The viewfinder is not as sharp as I would like, but since I can retake the picture quickly, it is not terribly serious. On a few occasions, trying to take closeups, the auto focus has trouble. The menus are a bit obscure at times, but there is a whole lot there. Mostly, the automatic feature is so good that I use it most of the time. I have made enlagements up to 8 x 10 and the sharpness compares very well with my best quality Canon and Nikon 35mm lenses.

Too bad the company stopped making cameras. My first and last from Konica or Minolta.

User Friendly Digital Camera & Excellent VGA Video

I like this Camera for its ease of use. Good for amatures and for people like me who likes photography as a hobby. It does kind of short when it comes to some picture quality( just a little bit). but dont get me wrong! the photos are great, colors are lively ! but compare to DSLR- Digital Single Lens Reflex cameras with interchageable lenses this camera (Z5) is a little bit short in photo quality. If you're more of a Pro-hobbyist in photography this camera is not for you, better go for Nikon D50 or Canon Rebel XT. But for now, My DImage Z5 is all I need. The picture quality is close to my Nikon N6006 SLR Film Camera. It out performs my Nikon Coolpix 775, HP Photosmart E317 5.0 MPixels & Vivitar 3.0 MP. Im kind of a little bit dissapointed because after a few months that I bought it the newer Model Z6 arrives with the same price tag. The Z5 has a better VGA Video ( 640 X 480 @ 15 or 30 fps) than the Z6 ( 320 x 240 @ 15 or 30 fps.)only. This is also one of the reason why I bought the Z5, because of its video. There's a lot of times that we want also to take video of let us say Family gatherings and we dont want to carry that bulky camcorder, well this is the solution to it. Oh by the way Z5 has 12X Optical zoom & 4X Digital zoom, If we compare the range with the 'old-fashioned' 35mm camera it has a range of 35 - 420mm. With this kind of zooming power who needs an interchageable lenses ! and with my added telephoto lens my Z5's zooming power is more than 12X ( 420 mm ) and with anti shake system this camera is awesome !
Z5 is a great Camera and Im enjoying it so far and I recently using it with the Wide angle and telephoto lenses : )

Unfortunately this camera has long been discontinued. Although Sony assumed service and support for Konica-Minolta when they bought the camera business from them in 2006, its unlikely that they will service a 4 yr. old camera. You might check the Sony web site and see what they offer that would be comparable to your X50.

Question : Why can't I get my computer to read pictures from my digital camera?
It's an HP Photosmart M425 and it always works just fine when i transfer my pictures to my computer (it's a Dell Dimension 4700, if that matters), but I put a memory card with pictures taken by a Konica Minolta Dimage E500 in it, and the computer won't connect to it or read the pics. The cards are exactly the same type and size, and both cameras show the pics from the other ones card when I switched them, so why can't the computer read them? I don't have the right kind of mini usb cable to plug in the Konica, which is why I am trying to figure out how to do it this way.

Answer:
you can probably get the mini usb from ebay I did for 99 cents go to smartcomputing.com techsupport to solve your problem

I have a konica minolta digital camera I need usb cable for DiMAGE E500 so I can download pictures?

Answer:
You can probably use a cable you already have. I lost the cable to my Palm Tungsten 2. It has a USB connector on one end and a mini firewire on the other. I tried using a cable from my external DVD burner, and it worked perfectly.

Question : Memory card for digital camera?
Hi - I'm looking for a memory card for my Konica Minolta Dimage Z3 digital camera. I currently have a 128MB SanDisk card in it right now, and have failed to find anything else that is compatable with my camera. I am shooting a wedding in less than 2 months and I need a memory card with at least 1GB. I have no idea where to begin and this has already been a hassle trying to find a card to work. Help!

Answer:
Could not find specifications for the memory card in your camera except 128 MB, but it does say in the owners manual to make sure the camera is off and to make sure batteries are removed before removing the memory card. Before adding or removing memory, make sure the processing or ready light is not blinking then turn the camera off and remove batteries. You can use several memory cards if the larger cards won't work in your camera. Check with the Geeks in some of the camera retail stores to see if they can help you. I use the 256 and 512 MB SanDisk cards and find them to be really fast. At a 3 mega pixel setting, the 256 MB card gave me 251 pictures. I use the 3 mega pixel setting because it is faster, takes less memory and gives great results in most cases. Check the source link for help with cleaning battery and camera electrical connections. The secret to making digital cameras work better is having good electrical contacts between the batteries and the camera. Digital cameras require lots of power. If electrical contacts are not really good, this can cause lots of problems so battery and camera contacts must be cleaned properly. Batteries may be fully charged, but will be viewed as low if contacts are not really good. The LCD display is a low steady load, but when lens extension, optical zoom, focus, and flash charging are added in the capture mode; the load is very heavy. With bad contacts, cameras do strange things like making bad pictures or shutting off with the lens out.

Question : My old flashes don't fire with my digital camera, why?
I own a Konica/Minolta Maxxum 7D digital camera and have two older flash units. A Metz 60CT1 and a Metz 32 Z1. I've used these flash units with my film cameras for years with no problems and would like to use them with my digital camera. The problem I'm having is the digital camera won't fire the flash units. Why?

Answer:
Look at the contacts on your camera and compare them to the ones on the old flash units. Be sure the trigger voltage is not too high .. it could fry your cameras electronics. Usually a flash with less than 12v trigger voltage (except Canon .. 6v for them) is safe. Your 60CT1 has a trigger voltage of 20.89V and the 32 Z1 3.46V Here is what I found on the Internet: "But, not so nice is the fact that Minolta's hot shoe is non-standard. In other words you not only can't attach a non-Minolta flash, but you also can't use other accessories (such as bubble levels) that mount on a camera's hot shoe. The Minolta hot-shoe design is indeed superior to a standard one, but it's a real pain not to be able to use accessories, or a less expensive flash unit." I guess this is the answer

I am looking for a camera that deep zoom (at least 10x) Any websites of discount digital cameras you recommend? I had a Konica Minolta (film) that was good but what is a good one for a digital camera? I also had a kodak (digital Cam.) it was decent.

Here's an article that has a good explanation of the difference between optical/digital zoom: http://www.dpreview.com/learn/?/Glossary/Digital_Imaging/Digital_zoom_01.htm The camera with the largest zoom range (without changing lenses) is the Olympus SP550 w/ 18x zoom. http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/specs/Olympus/oly_sp550uz.asp Here's a list of digital camera with big zooms: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/compare_post.asp

Question : question about the Konica Minolta G600 digital camera?
I have a konica minolta G600 digital camera that I purchased used a couple of years ago for less than $100 on ebay. recently though I've seen the same exact camera on Amazon and other sites for prices reaching nearly $900. The SAME freakin' camera. I'm just trying to get an idea where this insane price jump came from. please respond only if you can give a relavant answer. Thank you

Answer:
The G600 is an older camera (nearly three and a half years), thus older technology. Statistics on the camera. http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/compare_post.asp?method=sidebyside&cameras=konicaminolta_dimageg600& show=all Refurbished G600's cost around $400. You seem to have found a deal. The big plus for this camera has to do with the fact that it can use both the most popular SD memory card and the propriatary Sony Memory Stick. In addition is has one of the largest sensors found in P&S digital cameras
