Surprisingly good!

This camera replaces a wonderful but bulky Cannon 4MP. While on a trip to Japan, I realized I should've packed my little brick of a camera. I decided to go price some of the cameras there, expecting their usually expensive prices. I found this one for $170 (a favorable Yen rate helped). I bought it, and the clerk was nice enough to change the menu language to English. The book, however, is in Japanese. I set out to get some shots, day and night. The instant preview was useful since I was able to adjust settings and retake to see the difference (you can zoom on the preview screen). I had a 1 gig SD card in my PDA which is now in the camera. At first it did not read it, but after a couple of format trial and errors, I got it to work perfectly. At the highest setting, and taking some movies, it proved to be enough for lots of pictures. I'm grateful for the reviewers who mentioned the ISO setting recommendation: I'll try that. I found the controls and menus sufficent for taking great pictures without the benefit of the manual. I will download the english version at the earliest opportunity, though. Don't you just love the internet?????
Highly recommeneded for those who take the time to adjust settings and check out the preview shots.

Missing parts

Hi, when I ordered this Minolta Digital Camera I picked a seller that was offering the best price for the camera I wanted. What was missing was the information that I was buying a camera without a card. I would have been happy to purchase a separate memory card, if that information has been stated in the listing. But, I was surprised to find all the pieces of the camera, cradle, cords, and battery in the box but no card. When I contacted the seller, they informed me that the camera was being offered without a memory card. Somehow I missed that information when I placed my order.

Since then I have purchased a camera 2.0 G memory card, on sale at Circuit City for a huge reduction in price. So it all worked out for the best.
I guess what I would like to see Amazon do about these kinds of ads, is make sure that if something is being offered for sale that all of its parts are listed, or if something is not included, there should be a note to that effect in the ad.

No one does it better than Amazon. I have been able to find things on your website when no one else could come up with it. I love Amazon you are AMAZING,com

Amazing Product

I got this camera as a present a year ago, and dropped it in the ocean when I was on vacation...:( I bought an other camera, but the picture quality didn't live up to the standards set by the Dimage X1. So, I did a lot a research trying to find the Dimage X1 again. This is the most amazing camera ever -- to bad it's not in production any more. Picture quality is great. The anti-shake feature help to take the most amazing pictures. By far THE best digital camera I've owned.

STUNNING quality

Okay, I'd purchased this camera TWO years ago, and I'm still thrown by it's picture quality! Majority of my friends own Sony digital cameras, yet it doesn't come close to Konica Minolta Dimage X1! I constantly get compliments on my photo's, often everyone would ask if it's a professional DSLR camera that I'm using to get such wonderful quality! Though, I honestly have to agree that the shutter speed is one of the main disadvantages, along with some of the features and especially the bulky size & weight. Overall, I've been extremely happy with this product regardless of other's opinion, and I'm actually afraid of replacing it now that I'm so attached!!! Picture quality is stunning after TWO years!

Reliable - does it all

This camera has the speed needed in snapping off multiple photos without stopping. The reset speed is remarkably faster than I had expected. This camera does just about everything I ever wanted to do using a digital camera. I enter photo contests, and get great results. The Optical zoom is more than the average 3X Optical. It seems to do anything other cameras do, only with that little added touch. Can't beat the price, and appears to withstand punishment; no bumps or bruises.

Minolta Dimage S414

This is the second one of these that I have bought-
The first one was accidently washed in the washing machine.
I must say that it held up pretty well-
I worked great except that the flash did not work.
I have entered my photographs in the county fair the last two years-
I won 3rd place the 1st year and got 1st place this past year-and there was some pretty good stuff there.
I love my camera and couln't wait to replace it-
I felt like I had lost my best friend.

solid build for the money

I bought this camera about a year ago (and am now looking to replace it). I purchased it because it has a very nice lens for a camera in this price range (I paid $159 last year). It also has a metal body (most in this range are plastic).

BUT, (and this is the reason I'm writing this review at all)- the tripod mount makes it utterly useless! I had seen comments about the poorly placed tripod mount- and must say that's something of an understatement. The mount is way off to the side, so if you try to use a small tripod, it falls over!!! The focal distance on macro is also pretty unsatisfactory. Now, if this was a compact camera (hence something I'd use for travel, or just to have an on-hand camera) these shortcomings could be overlooked...but why bother with the bulk if it doesn't give you a large zoom, or compatable lenses, or the ability to use a tripod?

All that said, I'm not sure what the audience is for this camera. The features which would recommend it are in my review title: sold build, nice lens, low price point.
the engineering leaves something to be desired.

Wish I could give negative stars

I have owned a few digital cameras before and hands down, this is the worst of all. The zoom was messed up after a couple of months of purchasing and the red-eye reduction never worked. Adding to that, the customer service was horrible. It took the service people almost 2 months to tell me that I need to pay to get the camera fixed, even though the camera was still under warranty and it was the camera's fault. I was not provided with any explanation as to why I need to pay to get it repaired and never heard back from them. I may have used this camera for 3 months and never got good pictures out of it. It used to shut down by itself. At first I thought it was the batteries but that was not the case. Stay away from this camera.

Customer Review :

1 year later and I'm still happy with it

To start I with I have to say that I couldn't agree more with the Jan 3rd 2007 review. I purchased this camera a year ago now (Wow, has the price dropped!).I had thought about a DSLR at the time. However, I still do mostly shoot film, especially black & white prints and color slides. I decided that a DSLR was going to be way more money then I wanted to spend on a camera that I wasn't going to use constantly. I did some research and came upon the A200. Now bearing in mind that the A200 is my first digital camera, I do have to say that I was, and still am very happy with it. The auto focus is dreadfully slow on the default setting in low light situations. However, I took the advice of the Jan 3rd 2007 review, and have eliminated that problem. The pics are noisy ISO 400, however I think I've used that setting 2 times in the year that I've owned it, not a problem for me. One more pro and one more con. First, this camera has a EVF or electrical view finder. This is opposed to a optical view finder that DSLRS have, or better yet, like all of the film cameras have / had. This can make composing pictures with movement a bit difficult. You're not viewing the scene in real time, so there is a bit of a lag in time between any movement in the scene and what you see through the view finder. Not anyhting that would make me not use the camera, just a little tricky in certain situations. Another pro about this camera is the fact that is has a ISO setting of 50. Most camers do not include a ISO this "slow," the slowest end ISO's on most cameras range somewhere bewtween ISO 100 and ISO 150. This isn't a feature I use constantly, however I do use it, and I like knowing that the option is there when I do want to use it. I have taken some really nice pics with this camera, now, they don't (and digital pics never will) compare to a beautiful color slide or contrasty B&W print. Still, this camera delivers,I have had some excellent prints result from using it. You really just have to read the owner manual and learn how to fine tune it. To this day (like the auto focus fix as an example) I am still learning how to improve on using it. It might not techinically be considered a "Professional camera," but you can definitely get "Professional" quality results from it.

Dimage A200

I love, love, love my little camera. It was smaller than I expected, but when I got used to it I just love the size. It is so easy to carry around. It just fits your hand perfectly. You can do pretty much anything that an SLR will do except change lens. It has some very nice features. Easy menu and function buttons. I love the swivel LCD monitor. I use that all the time. The anti shake is a great help in getting good clear images even hand holding in low light. With the 8mp you can enlarge all you want. Get one while you can still find them. I am considering buying another one just to have as a back up in case something goes wrong with the one I have.

I am disapointed

Three years ago I bought a refurbished Minolta Dimage F100 camera. It was a 4MP caera that in my opinion was the best. Funny thing is that I never used it in 4MP and took all my pictures in 3MP. After 2 years of ROUGH usage by my son, my wife and I, it got stolen. I wanted another camera that was as good, and with my previous experience with a Minolta, I decided to buy a new Minolta camera that fit all my requirements: sd memory, aa batteries, Minolta, at least 5 MP. I bought this piece of ____.

At first it was great. Then it got bad, just like everyone else reviewing, blurry pictures, grainy pictures, battery drainage, etc...

After playing around with it, I did find fixes for the problems. The blurry image comes from a very slow shutter speed in auto mode. Toddlers will not freese for you to take their pictures. I needed to take pictures of my kids in action. I no longer use auto. I set it to active. I set the ISO manually to 200 to fix the blurriness. I lowered the color saturation to medium to help with the grainy pictures. As for battery drainage, I had previously bought a bunch of rechargeable batteries that I keep in my camera bag.

All those fixes make the camera usable again. But the best solution to the problems I will do in a month or so. I will buy a Canon A620. It may be bigger, but my wife will stop complaining that she hates the camera.

Try Something Else

This overall, is not a really great camera. You can probably find a better value for your money elsewhere. I just wanted something to take out to the bars and get pictures with my friends, and it was always a hassle getting it to actually take the picture. No matter what setting (night was the worst), you need to hold the button down for 2-5 seconds before it flashes. Everyone would end up breaking their smile by the time it took. Also, not it's fault, but I didn't realize it took AA batteries; it wasn't a Lithium Ion battery. If the camera was NOT EVEN ON, it would drain the batteries. It would literally drain the batteries within a day if they were in the camera, no matter if it was on or off. I did a workaround by placing one battery in the wrong way. As you can imagine, going to the bars and constantly flipping one battery was not my ideal camera.

It works for me, even after hitting the highway at 55mph

I bought this camera a few years ago but, after my recent experience with it, decided to write a review.

I never had battery issues, as I started off right away with AA Nimh rechargeables. I don't know why anyone would use anything but rechargeables nowdays.

I've found the camera easy to use. The only things I don't like are the macro feature is useless, there's no viewfinder, and the microphone for video is useless.

Having said that, we were in Minneapolis after Easter and, while loading up the car, I put the camera on the roof so I could have hands free to put the bags in. About two miles down the road, going 60mph, I heard something rattling on the roof. The camera! I started to slow down, and, in the rear view mirror, saw a silver flash as the camera flew off the roof. More silver flashes as it hit the pavement and lay in the middle of the lane with cars whizzing over it.

We turned off on a frontage road and went around, expecting the worst. Fortunately, no one had run over it. The batteries were gone, although we did find one in the ditch. The SD card was halfway out and the zoom button was also missing. I put fresh batteries in it, pushed the SD card back in, closed it up and turned it on...It still worked! It still takes great pics, although I have to use a pin to push the zoom contacts in or out.

This is one tough little camera.

Needs super batteries

I deleted my earlier review of this camera where I gave it a 1 star because it won't power on whenever I changed the batteries. After changing the batteries to a more powerful one, it was OK. I changed the batteries from the normal AA alkaline, to rechargable AA Ni-MH, and now I use industrial AA alkaline. The camera itself is not bad. It's easy to use (except in low light) and prints out beautiful pictures. It's just very picky with batteries. (This camera refused to power on when I was about to hike on the glacier in Alaska with my family and a bagful of AA batteries I bought with me were all useless.) Since this camera is no longer being produced, you are on your own if you have problems and no longer under warranty. Use your judgment.

E500 Battery Drain and inconsistent focus

Do not buy this camera. Battery drain is fast even with rechargables. Regular AA batteries do not even work in mine. New batteries will not even power it up. I'm going to buy more of the most powerful rechargables and keep many nearby. My wife hates camera, will not use.

Many times it loses its focus ability. You have to power down and back up again and cross fingers. When it works, it takes good pictures, but frustration level is high. Shutter lag is bad, you will miss the action. Stay away.

Questions & Answers
Question : What is the best digital camera for indoor low light situations?
right now I have a Konica Minolta Dimage Z3 and I used it at my sons wedding and the pictures I took at his reception were extremely grainy to the point where I cant use them for even just 4*6 prints.

Answer:
For a point & shoot digital camera, the Fujifilm F-series is probably the best for low-light situations. Here are some owners opinions for the newly released F31fd - http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/read_opinions.asp?prodkey=fuji_finepixf31fd and here's a detailed review - http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/fujifilmf31fd/ - the review is several pages long, be sure to checkout the other pages also to see how it compares to other cameras in its class, and the sample photo gallery.

Question : Why my 2GB SD card no longer works in my digital camera?
I have a Konica Minolta digital camera. My 2GB sd card which is probably about 6 months old, used to work in my camera, but now it just says "Unable to use card." BUT the card still works on other card readers, such as my printer. And no, the disk lock is not on. I tried another 2GB card in my camera, and it works fine. Why can't my camera read that SD card? Does anyone have any insightful answers or solutions to my problem?

Answer:
format the card in the camera

Question : What is a good digital camera that DOES NOT...?
give a blur, look unsharp,or take forever to take...I bought a 700 dollar digital camera and it sucks, I mostly take pics of my kids, but when I try to get a pic it is always blurry!!! My old camera was konica minolta that took great pics, but its no longer working and we all know what happened to konica...I need a good camera! Help.

Answer:
I think the main problem would be that your cameras lag time to take the picture the instance you press the shutter button is the Culprit to your unsharp, blury pictures. Because it would not take the picture unless your camera see's the subject in focus. Or that there was not enough light to give your photo the correct hand holdable exposure. Setting up your camera to a higher ISO might do the trick, but beware of the noise. Try some of these alternatives. If you want to salvage what you already have this is what I would do. For about $20 bucks you could get a wireless flash booster. Set your camera to manual. Set the shutter speed between 1/60th to 1/25 sec. Set your aperture to f 8. Set your camera flash to its lowest setting. Set the flash booster so that its trigger sensor sees the camera flash go off. Then this would give you great pictures of your kids. This would also alow for placment of the flash way above the camera lense to eliminate red eye. And add that natural lighting effect. On a budget and want a camera that would last a very long time: If you want a camera that could track your subjects movements and take the picure while still in focus. I would get the Nikon D40 ($600). Available in December. Very light easy to use digital SLR. Cons would be that its a bit on the big side. Most kids would be aware that they are being photographed and most shots would be mostly posed. Unless you invest in a longer telephoto lens like the 70-200 f2.8 AF VR. On a budget and want a camera that would last a very long time (pocket size): I would get the Canon SD900 ($425). Titanium shell will last for years. Image Stabilizer to take crisp hand holdable shots. Cons would only be that it has a small 3x optical zoom which would mean that you would have to be pretty close to take a great quality picture. Not too big, not too limited lens, not too expensive, not bad camera: Olympus SP-510 ($260) Fast response time, long 10x zoom lens and online support on how to take better pictures. This camera design was invented by Olympus. It was such a nice design that other manufactures such as Minolta and Kodak. None of them perfected it except Olympus. With rubber gromets around the lense and battery door. It keeps the dust out. And a digital image stabilizer to help keep the subject in focus. And its 10x optical zoom to capture candid shots of your kids in the moment. Distraction: Keep your kids from moving too much by giving them a toy that will allow them to take pictures as well. Give them a kid proof digital camera and watch them take pictures of you and what they think are picture worthy. Then take the digital camera you have now and take pictures of them. And if money is no object: I would get a Nikon D2XS ($4,700). Camera capable of taking pictures only when in focus. Not only that, you could set up the camera to take pictures when a subject crosses a predetermined focusing zone that you have set up. For example if you set the camera to take the shot when someone crosses 15 feet away and is in focus, the camera will not take the shot if the the subject is 14 feet and not in foucus. It will only take the shot if the subject gets to the 15 feet focused zone. Great camera if your kid happens to run as fast as that little boy in the movie "The Incredibles". I know that this might be overkill, but I just love cameras. Hope this helps.

Question : Where can I find a manual on line for Polaroid Digital Camera PDC5070?
I found the manual on line once, but I haven't recently been able to locate it. What I want to know is do I have to depress exposure button half-way down to have a photo in focus? The photos I've taken have been fuzzy - nothing like the Konica Minolta Z1 I had at one time. I suspect the PDC5070 is the digital equivalent of a box brownie.

Question : Where is the best place to buy digital camera accesories in Singapore?

Question : My old flashes don't fire with my digital camera, why?
I own a Konica/Minolta Maxxum 7D digital camera and have two older flash units. A Metz 60CT1 and a Metz 32 Z1. I've used these flash units with my film cameras for years with no problems and would like to use them with my digital camera. The problem I'm having is the digital camera won't fire the flash units. Why?

Answer:
Look at the contacts on your camera and compare them to the ones on the old flash units. Be sure the trigger voltage is not too high .. it could fry your cameras electronics. Usually a flash with less than 12v trigger voltage (except Canon .. 6v for them) is safe. Your 60CT1 has a trigger voltage of 20.89V and the 32 Z1 3.46V Here is what I found on the Internet: "But, not so nice is the fact that Minolta's hot shoe is non-standard. In other words you not only can't attach a non-Minolta flash, but you also can't use other accessories (such as bubble levels) that mount on a camera's hot shoe. The Minolta hot-shoe design is indeed superior to a standard one, but it's a real pain not to be able to use accessories, or a less expensive flash unit." I guess this is the answer

Question : What is the difference between Optical Zoom and Digital Zoom? What camera has the max zoom?

Here's an article that has a good explanation of the difference between optical/digital zoom: http://www.dpreview.com/learn/?/Glossary/Digital_Imaging/Digital_zoom_01.htm The camera with the largest zoom range (without changing lenses) is the Olympus SP550 w/ 18x zoom. http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/specs/Olympus/oly_sp550uz.asp Here's a list of digital camera with big zooms: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/compare_post.asp

Question : Memory card for digital camera?
Hi - I'm looking for a memory card for my Konica Minolta Dimage Z3 digital camera. I currently have a 128MB SanDisk card in it right now, and have failed to find anything else that is compatable with my camera. I am shooting a wedding in less than 2 months and I need a memory card with at least 1GB. I have no idea where to begin and this has already been a hassle trying to find a card to work. Help!

Answer:
Could not find specifications for the memory card in your camera except 128 MB, but it does say in the owners manual to make sure the camera is off and to make sure batteries are removed before removing the memory card. Before adding or removing memory, make sure the processing or ready light is not blinking then turn the camera off and remove batteries. You can use several memory cards if the larger cards won't work in your camera. Check with the Geeks in some of the camera retail stores to see if they can help you. I use the 256 and 512 MB SanDisk cards and find them to be really fast. At a 3 mega pixel setting, the 256 MB card gave me 251 pictures. I use the 3 mega pixel setting because it is faster, takes less memory and gives great results in most cases. Check the source link for help with cleaning battery and camera electrical connections. The secret to making digital cameras work better is having good electrical contacts between the batteries and the camera. Digital cameras require lots of power. If electrical contacts are not really good, this can cause lots of problems so battery and camera contacts must be cleaned properly. Batteries may be fully charged, but will be viewed as low if contacts are not really good. The LCD display is a low steady load, but when lens extension, optical zoom, focus, and flash charging are added in the capture mode; the load is very heavy. With bad contacts, cameras do strange things like making bad pictures or shutting off with the lens out.

Question : In your opinion or from reviews overall how do you rate the follwing digital camera companies best to worst.?
Cannon, Fujifilm, Kodak, Nikon, Olympus, Panasonic, Pentax, Sony ( I have omitted companies such as: Casio, HP, Samsung) becuase they don't really make their own camera lenses per say. And that they clearly aren't among the upper tier of camera company groups. Although they make good camera's just not part of that select group of pioneers in the camera world. As well as ...Konica minolta just becuase they arent that common.

Answer:
Canon and Fujifilm and Nikon are probably the best. The canon powershot, the fujifilm finepixZ, and the nikon coolpix are great choices for compact cameras. The finepix is pretty, clear, and is probably my favorite, but all three are good. It is simply a personal choice.

Question : I have a konica minolta digital camera I need usb cable for DiMAGE E500 so I can download pictures?
I have a konica minolta digital camera I need usb cable for DiMAGE E500 so I can download pictures?

Answer:
You can probably use a cable you already have. I lost the cable to my Palm Tungsten 2. It has a USB connector on one end and a mini firewire on the other. I tried using a cable from my external DVD burner, and it worked perfectly.
