Take control of your shots with the KODAK EASYSHARE Z812 IS Zoom Digital Camera. Adjust the aperture and shutter speed yourself. Or let the camera do it for you. The high zoom and optical image stabilization eliminates blurry pictures.

Popup flash stops popping up

The popup flash is a big issue with camera like this. The popup flash stopped popping up for my camera and the camera is basically useless. The camera also shuts down every once in a while for no reason and I miss precious shots. I loved the camera initially because of all the features it has but now I hate it.

Powerful consumer camera

Aaah, Kodak! My first digital camera was a Kodak several years ago (C300). It served me quite well for a long time and thousands of photos. But I began wanting something a bit more up-to-date and high-quality. I have owned several other brands since buying that first faithful camera, but almost all have quit working while the C300 still gets the job done (if the pictures are low resolution).

So, when I began shopping for a new camera - I was favoring Kodak. My experiance has been that their WasyShare line cameras are generally well-built, reliable camera (if sometimes a bit quirky).

I found the Z812is back in June when my family and I were planning a week-long vacation. The resolution was pretty impressive (at 8.2mp). The 12x Optical Zoom seemed useful, and the price (at that time) was decent.

I did not review this camera immediately, because I wanted to really put this camera through it's paces.

I'm not a professional photographer by any means, though I do take a pretty good family/scenic shot from time to time if I do say so myself. But this is a great camera for still photos. The colors are sharp, the features are useful and plentiful, and the camera is easy to use. Here are some of my findings.

Pros;
1) Good resolution (enlarge to 16 x 22 with no real pixelation).
2) Zoom (gets you right into the shot from a distance).
3) weight (I find that a heavier camera is often easier to hold steady).
4) Manual button controls (I do not like the trend of some toward touch-screen and heavily menu based controls) but this camera has REAL button controls.

Cons;
1) Video feature (Video looks pretty good, but the audio is horrible if you are in a noisy location).
2) You really do need the lithium-ion battery pack (but you can get a generic that is cheaper than the name brand).
3) Start-up time (I find this camera to be a bit slow when first turning it on, so power up in anticipation of that once-in-a-lifetime shot).

In conclusion - If you want a great (CONSUMER-LEVEL) point and shoot camera with a great zoom, this is it.
If you want a camera that does well with video - look into an actual video camera. But for the family photographer - this is a great investment.

By the way - you WILL need to pick up an SD/SDHC card as the file size of one photo tends to be in the 1.3mb plus range. I suggest at least a four gig card because they are so cheap now.

Kodak Easyshare Z812IS- Love it

I purchased the Z812IS to upgraded from my 1974 Minolta SRT201 35mm SLR camera (stop the laughing). I got tired of waiting to see if my pictures were any good after developing. I've only used it a handful of times, mainly for photographing race cars. I like the very short shutter delay. (I think it's 0.23 sec.)The camera also takes exceptional pictures at a distance. For cars in motion, it's easy to pan along with them to get that speed effect, using a shutter speed of less than 1/320,and the screen & view finder do not go blank when taking pictures at a slower shutter speed.
I also used it to photograph close ups of morning glorys. The detail is outstanding.
For the batteries, I purchased 2 KODAK(KLIC-8000)Li-Ion rechargeables.
I also purchased a KODAK High Performance 2GB memory card. I don't know the performane of this(or why I bought it), but the 2GB memory card that came with the camera is sufficient, holding over 700 photos. The most I've put on it at 1 shooting was 195.
The Image Stabilization is great. I think someone with Parkinsons Disease could easily take perfect pictures.
'Nuf said. As of this date, I highly recommend this camera.

Eats batteries like crazy

I got my Z812is about 8 months ago and took about 1000 pictures and maybe 50 videos so far. This is my first digital camera so I cant compare it to other ones. The Good: picture quality, video quality, zoom, the time you need to wait between pictures is minimal. Bad, or not so good: It eats batteries for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It doesn't even work on a regular AA batteries, I had to get Lithium ones witch don't last very long. It is a little balky, so you can't just stick it in your pocket. I wish it had a sleep mode button, because if I turn it on and off, it eats batteries, if I leave it on, it eats batteries. It does go to a sleep mode after few minutes, and then turns off after few more, but I wish there was a button for it. I will get a rechargeable battery pack and will update this review later. The picture quality is good, but they are big in size. Pictures will be anywhere from 0.8MB up to over 2MB in size.

Buyer Beware!

Unbelievable! You would think that if you ordered a camera with a rechargeable battery in it, it would ship with the charger. But wait! You have to order one separately and nowhere does it tell you that in the order process or online descriptions. You have to wait until you have the user manual in hand (and a dead battery) So at the very least I had to pay for additional shipping where, if they had indicated that it was a REQUIRED accessory, I could have included it in the original shipment.

Let me first say I am suprised that 12 out of 13 reviewers find this camera good, and let me also say I don't usually rate 1/5 most products I buy. This camera is really an exception.

Before I write this review I sent the camera back to the service to replace it, because I was sure that the specific piece was faulty.

Not only they didn't fix anything, they just returned it claiming that it was "calibrated". The images taken are full of blur , visible by naked eye. Printing or viewing @ TV is also bad.

I am staying away from Kodak next time.

Kodak M893 IS (Silver)

I bought this Kodak M893 IS camera through KodakAuctions.com on eBay. Mine is refurbished, but anyone would have trouble distinguishing it from new. I paid less than $70 for it at auction. It is a great little camera so far. I have owned three other Kodak digitals over the past 7 years and they all still work great. My first was a DC3400 2.1 MP dinosaur, which has never failed to take a perfect picture. I don't use it anymore because it uses four AA batteries and has a 1.5 inch LCD
and it is very heavy. My second, which I bought almost 4 years ago at
Sam's Club for over $400, is the DX6490(4MP 10Xzoom). It still takes beautiful pictures. It is solidly built, kind of bulky though, and has a great Li-Ion battery life. My third, bought online two years ago for $250($379 retail), is the V550(Silver)5MP. This has been and still is a great camera. I like the fact that it has a 2.5" LCD AND an optical viewfinder. It also still takes great pictures. It is also solidly built with a full metal body. I use this camera all the time. It is so nice to be able to just plop it in the charger dock and it is ready to go whenever I need it. It uses the KLIC-7001 Li-Ion battery, which is the same as the battery in the M893. The M893 has a slightly larger LCD screen (2.7") and lacks any viewfinder. The M893 is much lighter in weight than the V550. (It's housing is mostly plastic). I bought the M893
because of the great price I got it for and for the fact that it is 8+MP.
But, I have found that my 4 and 5 MP cameras take excellent pictures and I don't ever plan on printing any pictures over 8"x10", so I adjusted the settings on the M893 down to 5 megapixels. This way, the pictures take up a lot less memory both in camera and on my computers and still produce excellent photos. So far, my only gripe about this camera is that it has such a long delay time between shots. (It loads the picture into memory then shows you a screenshot of what you just took.) I have found that I can shorten this timespan by pressing the shutter button down partway and the camera will skip showing you your previous shot and immediately be ready for the next one. I also bought this particular model because it has OPTICAL image stabilisation (as opposed to DIGITAL).
So far, I have had no problems to speak of with this camera (or any of my Kodaks for that matter) and I am very pleased with it - especially at the price I paid ($70) which included a 1 year Kodak factory warranty. I
have read several reviews by people who have problems with Kodak or just don't like Kodak for one reason or another. I happen to prefer Kodak over the other brands, mainly because they are relatively easy to use and they have produced good results for me. I have found that digital cameras are not toys, they are delicate electronic instruments. If you treat them with care and protect them and don't abuse them, they will
last a long time and produce many happy memories. This of course doesn't mean that there isn't bad apple or a lemon every once in a while. Maybe I have just been lucky so far. Anyway, I am very satisfied with this camera and give it a 4(out of 5)rating. It is relatively inexpensive compared to the $300 and $400 that we were paying just a couple of years ago for the same features. I would give my V550 and my DX6490 5(out of 5) stars because they came with their charger docks included in the package.

Worst camera we've ever owned

I've had several Kodak Easy Share cameras. This is the worst camera we've ever owned. Got it for my daughter for Christmas and she didn't have it 24 hours before the lens got stuck - just like others are saying here. The lens goes out and freezes. When we try to turn it on, the screen flashes, on, off, on, off. Put brand new batteries in and it still won't work.

It's going back 1st thing tomorrow and we won't be buying another Kodak.

Kodak M893IS (Blue)

I was happy with this camera, when it was working reliably. Decent shots, easy to use, very light to carry. I started to notice that the camera would turn itself off & on when I attempted to review photos. It would freeze with the lens open. Decided to return, after no firmware upgrade was available, that might have fixed these problems on Kodak's website. Too bad, I have had better luck with previous Kodaks I've owned.

not pleased at all!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I bought this camera this spring and at leaset 50% of my pictures are blurry! There is also a pink line down the middle of the LCD screen anytime I take a picture in the sun. I have spoken with a customer service rep from kodak twice now and the first one told me to buy an accessory(at my cost) to reduce the pink line. The second one just told me to get it repaired @ a kodak store because it is still under warranty! I told them that I bought it new, and was very unpleased with the quality of picture that it takes, I did not want it refurbished I wanted a new one that worked properly. She said that it was'nt their POLICY, first I would have to try and get it fixed (when I never broke it). You would think that company such as Kodak would try to keep their consumers happy, but instead I have to go out of my way to get my brand new camera fixed. I have had two cheaper models of Kodak in the past and have never had this problem!!!!

Kodak EasyShare M893IS 8.1MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom (Silver)
I'm being generous with a 1 star rating.

Worst camera I've ever owned. I have had 3 Kodak EasyShare cameras before and loved every one of them. I bought this because of that but have regretted that decision ever since. First the lens kept getting stuck either in or out and the camera wouldn't take any photos. I sent it back for service. Got it back with a note that said nothing was wrong with it. Same thing happened when we were on vacation, I got stuck using the throw away cameras. Sent it back again, they said they fixed it but it happened again. The third time they did replace the camera with a "reconditioned" one. It has worked for 3 months but now the lens is starting to stick again.

Along with it not working properly the pictures are just horrible. The action pictures are to dark if you are inside. IF you use the inside setting there is no action setting. Everything is blurry, low light and just plan bad quality.

Don't buy this camera if you have children and want to take quick and fast photos. Focus is extremely bad and very very slow. Image Stablization is a joke.

I think I'm giving up on kodak and going with a Nikon or Canon.

Question : Can i somehow put filters on my tiny kodak digital camera??
I have a small kodak digital camera, it's just plain digital. It doesn't even have a "mm" sized lense. Just a regular digital camera. is there a way to adapt lenses to it? would they be effective if i had to rig up something? or would the become deffective because of the distance between the lens and the filter?

Answer:
what sort of filters do you want to add to it? in this age of digital photography the only useful filter would be a UV filter for protection, any other effects could be replicated in digital editing. If you do want effects without editing, you could get away with holding up a filter to the lens but, really, why? and yes, the further you hold from the lens, the more distortion you will get. but hey, try it. no harm can come...

Question : Has anyone used the new Kodak digital camera to take sports pics in a high school gym?
I have a camera but the pictures always come out blury. I was told I need a stableization in my camera like the new Kodak has. I want to make sure if I get that camera it will work fine. It is frustrating because I want to take good action shots of my son on the court and they come out blury. Any feedback?

Answer:
sorry you heard that. a stabilizer takes away your hand shaking not an object moving. the light in a gym seems bright. but, it fools the camera. if you write an email to me and tell me what kind of camera you have - I might be able to help you. the best thing you can do without changing the camera settings - is to get as close as you can and use the flash.

I can view them through Quicktime or on the internet (after uploaded), but windows media player doesnt work for them. They are in ".mov" format, and i dont know why i cant play them on windows. I also want to know why it wont let me upload them onto windows movie maker to edit and make a movie out of them. It says that ".mov" files are uploadable under WMM help, yet every time i try to upload them it says something along the lines of it not being compatable. Does anybody know why this is? Is there a way i can change it or fix it? I've gone through windows help of all sorts and cant seem to come to a solution. Serious answers only please. Thankyou!!!

Question : How can I get a clearer picture on my Kodak digital camera?
I have a P850 Kodak digital camera and I can't get close up pictures ( of flowers, animals etc..) to be very clear. Any suggestions?

Answer:
well if you have the 24-140 lens than your minimum focusing distance is 2.0 - 20.4 inches in macro focusing range according the datasheet online i found for this camera. if you are staying within those limits and have the lens or camera set to macro it should be in focus. if not try using a tripod to keep the camera steady alot of times its you moving and you don't realize it. if not staying within 2.0-20.4 inches of your subject and you need to get further or closer try close up filters wich any decent camera store should sell and carry. or try buying a macro lens which only does macro. lmk if these solutions don't help- i love helping solve camera problems like this.

Question : Free online digital camera software for transfering editing and sharing? I hate my Kodak software?
I have a kodak digital camera and use the software that came with it to transfer pics from my camera and to edit them. I also use their gallery to share photos without having to email them. Does anyone know of a free online site that will let me do all these things. I really don't like the kodak.

Question : Kodak Digital camera, c653, got dampened in water is it repairable?
I got the kodak c653 digital camera which got dampened, can it be repaired if yes whom do i need to show? i stay at hyderabad, please suggest..

Answer:
Electronics and water don't go well together. If it works after drying out, great. If not, the water probably caused a short circuit which would make it doubtful that it can be repaired. However, I've seen electronics survive water damage, but the battery was ruined. You might get lucky and get by with only having to get a new battery.

Question : I have a Kodak Digital Camera and it got wet, how can I fix it myself?
I have a Kodak Easy Share Z740 Digital Camera that was sent to get repaired but the extendant warranty does not cover water/moisture getting into the camera. My dad is going to kill me when he finds out!! I'm in a hurry,Please help me.

Answer:
If you have to ask you don''t have the technical ability yourself. Look in your phone book and see if there is a local camera repair centre and pay for the repair yourself. As this camera is a low end one it may not be worth the cost of repairing it. Maybe a replacement is in order. Have you ever thought of being honest with your father? As a parent I know I would prefer the last option. Good luck
