Buyer Beware!

Unbelievable! You would think that if you ordered a camera with a rechargeable battery in it, it would ship with the charger. But wait! You have to order one separately and nowhere does it tell you that in the order process or online descriptions. You have to wait until you have the user manual in hand (and a dead battery) So at the very least I had to pay for additional shipping where, if they had indicated that it was a REQUIRED accessory, I could have included it in the original shipment.

Got this camera for my daughter for Christmas. Very easy to use as is the software from Kodak.

Bad Image Quality

Let me first say I am suprised that 12 out of 13 reviewers find this camera good, and let me also say I don't usually rate 1/5 most products I buy. This camera is really an exception.

Before I write this review I sent the camera back to the service to replace it, because I was sure that the specific piece was faulty.

Not only they didn't fix anything, they just returned it claiming that it was "calibrated". The images taken are full of blur , visible by naked eye. Printing or viewing @ TV is also bad.

I am staying away from Kodak next time.

I JUST PURCHASED THE KODAK V1253 12MP, USED OF COURSE. THE CAMERA WORKS OK BUT I FOUND OUT THAT AFTER A COUPLE OF PICS THE BATTERY LIFE (DIES) WHICH IS NOT GOOOD!!! I EVEN WENT AS FAR AS PURCHASING A (NEW) BATTERY CHARGER AND AFTER CHARGING ALL NITE IT STILL (DIES) OUT AFTER A COUPLE OF PICS..SHOULD'VE KEPT MY KODAK 6.2 WHICH HAD AT LEAST 2.5 OF BATTERY LIFE AFTER BEING CHARGED AND BETTER PIC QUALITY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Decent mid-level camera with some great features

Pros:
Easy to use-software simple to navigate
Plenty of adjustable camera settings for various situations
Camera quickly powers on
Microphone works well with video mode
Steady pictures come out very clear/crisp
3" screen makes it easy to take some quality pictures

Cons:
Poor quality low light pics (even with flash on)
Does not always sync correctly with Kodak easyshare software
Sometimes will not turn on properly-immediately powers down after pressing the on button
Certain camera settings produce unclear pics if you don't have the steadiest of hands (or it's windy)
Needs to come with an A/C charger

Overall, not a bad purchase. This camera's price and features make it a good competitor to some other brands.

Returned it in 30 Mins

I ordered this camera from Amazon and it came in no time flat which was great. Unfortunately the camera is going back in less than 1 hour of ownership. I took the camera out of the box and loaded it with an 8 GB SD Card and tried out the video recording capability. Now this camera can record at 720P and it records in Quicktime MOV. I have a Intel Core 2 Duo MacBook and the video was completely out of sync, grainy and washed out. I wonder if mine was defective because the video was NOTHING like I had seen on the online sharing sites.

Should've Returned It Within First Few Days of Purchase

Overall I am not happy with the Kodak V1253 12 megapixel camera. It is very user friendly for changing modes for various settings. I have found that outdoor photos turn out great. The majority of photos taken indoors turn out very dark and blurry. I just can't get any good photos indoors. I would not purchase this product again, nor would I recommend it to a friend!

Absolutely Great! Fine Lens, Resolution, Battery Life, Low Light Photography

This is my 2nd Kodak Digital Camera. I liked the 1st, used it for 3 years, and was induced to move to the new camera for its superior MP rating (12MP vs. my old 6 MP camera), its better low light capabilities without using flash, and its higher magnification without resorting to computerized magnification.

Besides that, its sturdy, had good lens protection, and I expect will stand up well over several years of high usage.

I take several thousand photos a year and edit and crop photos a lot. You can make large prints of even a small portion of a picture, and be confident of its fidelity and resolution.

In researching the camera I was concerned about some negative comments by users, especially about battery life, but bought it anyway because of my excellent prior experience witht Kodak, and Consumer Reports Magazine's reviews of various Kodak models with similar battery usage characteristics. (They didn't review this model, but did do a similar lower MP model).

I just can't believe their experiences. The camera comes with excellent non-rechargeable AA batteries. They lasted well over 100 shots, most of which were energy hogging flash photos.

I'm now using rechargeable Kodak batteries, and their life seems at least as long, and they cost under $15 at Wal-mart for 4 Rechargeable batteries + a recharger.

ps. The model I bought was a real bargain - I bought a remanufactured one, that came from Kodak with the same support a new one would get. Furthermore, I found out from Kodak that this camera, no longer in production, is identical to the newer Kodak 1285 camera, except for the model number.

Good camera at a good price!

Simply my favorite digital camera!

I've owned and reviewed numerous digital cameras, but this one has become my absolute favorite. I tend to get long-winded in my reviews, but I want to keep this one short and simple. Here are the benefits, as I see them:

- This camera has the shortest time between shots of any camera I've used in the sub-$500 range. That means you'll snap more pictures, and miss less opportunities. [Note: while the camera is letting you review your photo, you can go back into picture-taking mode by partially depressing the shutter button (the one used to snap a photo)--that'll get you shooting again quickly.

- The Smart Scene feature really does autodetect the best setting in most circumstances. I no longer need to stop and change over to micro to shoot flowers, and then back to portrait to shoot people. It simply works as advertised and MAKES THIS ONE OF THE EASIEST CAMERAS TO USE ON THE GO>

- Even at 12 Megapixel resolution, a 1 Gb SD card [Note: Purchase one right away.] will store hundreds and hundreds of photos in JPG format.

- Definately get a set of four NiHh rechargeable batteries (at least 2100 MAh rated). You'll be able to shoot most of the day on one pair (assuming you're not using flash for all shots), and the second pair can always be charged and ready.

- The LCD is a great size, and it surprisingly easy to read in sunlight. [Note: consider buying some plastic screen protectors to keep it safe from scratches.]

- The menu system is easy to navigate and use.

Overall, it's the best all-purpose digital camera I've owned. I'm planning on getting another one for my wife, since she likes to use this one so much that I often need to "steal" it back from her.

One last note: on cases. Generally, I recommend purchasing the camera case *after* you have the camera in-hand. If you purchase the case online, you risk that you might not like the way the camera fits in the case, or that the case is simply too large or too small. Don't wait too long, however, because that case is the best protection your camera will have when you are on the go!

Great outdoor pictures... BUT...

After having this camera for a year now, we've determined the following:

1. It eats regular AA batteries in an hour. Lithiums will last about a month.
2. Having no viewfinder is annoying, since you'll have to set the LCD screen at its brightest level in order to see it outside. Therefore, less battery life.
3. VERY OFTEN, the flash will completely white out a picture. For a while I thought it was because I was trying to take pictures when the last one I took was still processing but now it happens the first time I take a picture, right after turning it on.
4. You can't set the camera to take pictures in black and white. I liked that feature on my old Kodak.
5. It takes beautiful outdoor pictures. Being able to set it for "snow scene" and outdoor action shots for kids is really nice and they come out great.
6. I've tried lowering the picture quality to 6 or 8 MP in order to eliminate the annoying blue screen that comes up sometimes that says "processing" -- but then I can forget about taking pictures indoors. They always come out blurry or dark.
7. The large LCD screen is great!
8. Indoor shots are often either grainy and dark or overexposed, even if I set the camera to take photos in low light conditions.

I'm no camera geek and many of these issues may just be the nature of the point and shoot beast. I'm generally happy with the camera since we are outside taking pictures of the kids most of the time, but I do wish I could get better shots indoors.

Excellent buy

Nice product. Works as promised. Zoom excellent. Simply use as point and shoot or it has many many features for the more advanced user. Bought for a family member who does not play well with electronics and he absolutely loves it. As with most digital cameras, this unit eats AA batteries! Suggest the long life types or rechargeables and carry spares. Also, Kodak has decided on mutiple units to do away with the view finder. My personal preference would be to keep both the view finder and the LCD screen. I have read other reviews and don't understand the 'grainy' pictures some mention. I am quite picky about quality and find this unit to have high quality pictures. I agree that the speed between pictures is sometimes quite a bit but if I were to be taking pictures at sport events where speed was of essence - most the time - I would have bought a higher end camera. This unit is excellent in 98% of the settings in which I need a camera to work and give quality results! Other than that way to go Kodak.

Great Camera So Far

Purchased this camera in November (2008) and so far it has been a great camera. Battery lastes long. It is easy to operate. The software is the best...even better than the Canon software from my wife's camera. I wanted to support an American company (with the economic conditions) so I bought a Kodak and have been very pleased.

Great Entry-Level Camera

Prior to purchasing this unit, I did a fairly exhaustive internet search of user-reviews of entry-level digital cameras. Since this is my first digital camera, the most important factors for me were ease-of-use and overall user-friendliness. On both those counts, I can say the unit performs remarkably well. My wife, who is very much a non-techie, has had no trouble using the camera for taking pictures of her eBay merchandise. Clarity and resolution are very good. And the camera interfaces fairly seamlessly with the included Kodak software and Kodak Gallery. Battery life also seems remarkably good. It would have been nice, though, if Kodak had included even a simple cloth carrying case. The only reason I didn't give the camera five stars was because of the difficulty viewing subject matter outdoors with the LCD viewfinder, especially in bright sunlight. The glare makes it almost impossible to see your subject. In fairness, though, this seems to be a problem with LCD viewfinders in general, not just Kodak's. But overall, it's a great little camera.

Not The Greatest.

I got this camera to take to China with me so I could remember everything I did and saw there. It worked fine the first 4 weeks, then on the 5th week the lens part wouldnt come out right or go back in at all. I was frustrated, especially since I was on a trip and couldnt have it fixed right away. I sent it back in when I got home and had it fixed. After that it worked fine, then started up with the lens thing AGAIN so I sent it back again asking if they could replace it ( I thought it was just a dud) and they did. This camera worked fine until a week ago when the screen started shaking crazily when I turned it on and now its completely blank and wont let me see the pictures I take. Although when this camera worked, it took great pics and was really clear, its just not one that I would recommend.

Great little camera! Ordering 2nd one today!

Love this camera. I have one that I bought about 6 mos. ago and I am getting ready to buy a 2nd one. My husband uses the 1st one all the time and he likes it because its compact. I like it cause I can carry it around in my purse and use it whenever I want. It takes awesome pictures....I haven't had but a few pictures that didn't turn out...but that was me taking a crappy picture. This will be my 4th Kodak camera. I don't know what people keep talking about the LCD screen being hard to see...In certain lighting conditions ALL camera lcd's are hard to see. I have Canon Rebel XSI and it's the same problem. If the light is really bright and/or really dim they are all hard to see at times. This doesn't bug me. Its just a known fact that this is problem. It really disturbs me that people give it a bad rap for just that problem. The bottom line...It takes really good pictures and its easy to use. Thats all that really matters to me...

Question : I have a Kodak Digital Camera and it got wet, how can I fix it myself?
I have a Kodak Easy Share Z740 Digital Camera that was sent to get repaired but the extendant warranty does not cover water/moisture getting into the camera. My dad is going to kill me when he finds out!! I'm in a hurry,Please help me.

Answer:
If you have to ask you don''t have the technical ability yourself. Look in your phone book and see if there is a local camera repair centre and pay for the repair yourself. As this camera is a low end one it may not be worth the cost of repairing it. Maybe a replacement is in order. Have you ever thought of being honest with your father? As a parent I know I would prefer the last option. Good luck

Question : i recently broke the internal screen of my kodak digital camera. Is it fixable?
the camera was a kodak c513 eashy share camera. the external screen isn't cracked, but the internal screen is. the camera only costs about $85, but it is sold out in most stores. how much would it cost to fix, if at all fixable?

Answer:
It can be fixed, but it would probably cost $85 to fix, or more. So, you must ask yourself, is this worth fixing? You can easily get a much better camera for $100, or an even better one for $150. Personally, I would just buy a new camera.

Question : Kodak Digital camera, c653, got dampened in water is it repairable?
I got the kodak c653 digital camera which got dampened, can it be repaired if yes whom do i need to show? i stay at hyderabad, please suggest..

Answer:
Electronics and water don't go well together. If it works after drying out, great. If not, the water probably caused a short circuit which would make it doubtful that it can be repaired. However, I've seen electronics survive water damage, but the battery was ruined. You might get lucky and get by with only having to get a new battery.

Question : Question about Kodak digital camera and windows movie maker?
I have a Kodak digital "easy share" camera. It records video and i've put a couple video files from my camera directly on my computer. I can view them through Quicktime or on the internet (after uploaded), but windows media player doesnt work for them. They are in ".mov" format, and i dont know why i cant play them on windows. I also want to know why it wont let me upload them onto windows movie maker to edit and make a movie out of them. It says that ".mov" files are uploadable under WMM help, yet every time i try to upload them it says something along the lines of it not being compatable. Does anybody know why this is? Is there a way i can change it or fix it? I've gone through windows help of all sorts and cant seem to come to a solution. Serious answers only please. Thankyou!!!

Question : I have a "dinosaur" (old, big) Kodak digital camera. How do I get it to install to my computer?
I called Kodak support and they no longer provide support for my model, the DX3500. However, the rep did tell me that it is compatible with Kodak's EasyShare software. I lost the software it came with in a move. Beyond that, I am clueless. When I plug my USB into the computer, nothing happens, the Easyshare software that I downloaded does not automatically pop up. When I try and install the camera in "Control Panel" my model does not come up on the list, so it says to to use the software. Is there something about being the administrator of the computer??? Any help you have would be great. I have 400+ pictures of my NB twins on my camera that I cannot download and need to get a new camera when I can afford one! So any tips you have are greatly appreciated since I'm stuck with this one in the meantime! Thanks! Thanks!!!

Question : Can i somehow put filters on my tiny kodak digital camera??
I have a small kodak digital camera, it's just plain digital. It doesn't even have a "mm" sized lense. Just a regular digital camera. is there a way to adapt lenses to it? would they be effective if i had to rig up something? or would the become deffective because of the distance between the lens and the filter?

Answer:
what sort of filters do you want to add to it? in this age of digital photography the only useful filter would be a UV filter for protection, any other effects could be replicated in digital editing. If you do want effects without editing, you could get away with holding up a filter to the lens but, really, why? and yes, the further you hold from the lens, the more distortion you will get. but hey, try it. no harm can come...
