Wouldn't work for son's graduation

I've had this camera for a year and a half only taking pictures periodically. I took it on a trip and was only able to take 2 pictures before the battery told me it was dead. I thought I might have not put it on the charger correctly. I was sure to put the camera correctly on the charger to prepare for my son's graduation. When the moment came to take the picture at his graudation the battery was dead. I have a friend who also had the same problem and we bought them at the same time. So if you want a good camera for a year and a half, this is a great one. If you want one longer, it'd be best to look somewhere else.

BIG MISTAKE!

Buying this camera was a big mistake as it went bad within one month of extremely gentle and almost non-existent use!

Review
I have owned this camera for a few years and have used it in many situations sunlight, dark, motion shots. This is a super camera that allows to you to shoot in Auto mode or adjust settings as you become a better photographer. Very simple to use for a beginner and helped me worked up to a SLR with ease. Although I still use my Z740. The pictures look amazing and many people ask me what kind of camera I use and appear surprised when I tell them. Size is handy to just grab and go. Now for the not so great. I have better success when I set my own adjustments rather than using the Sports mode. The shutter can lag (expected), and bring along a spare battery if you plan to take alot of pictures.

Kodak surprise

My husband & I took 6 weeks to travel to the western National Parks. Our original camera got dropped in the sand 10 days before leaving. A friend volunteered the Kodak Z740. We ended up taking over 1100 pictures including numerous pics of the beautiful scenery shot from our moving car. Much to our delight the camera performed way beyond our expectations and as soon as we returned we decided to buy one for ourselves. It's easy to hold, simple directions, numerous options and takes a clear picture. We downloaded pics every night to our PC and sent them to friends. For "Joe" picture taker its a great camera.

great camera, until it dies

I've had the Kodak Easyshare for about two years now, and loved it--great pictures, easy to hold, etc. If I had reviewed this camera until any time in the last month, I would have given it a 5 star rating.

Then one day it simply wouldn't turn on. I changed the batteries twice, and it wouldn't turn on. A quick Google search uncovered four forums with other Easyshare users describing the same problem. And the problem apparently can't be fixed, or at least can't be fixed for less than the price of a new camera, according to the local Kodak shop. I know that cameras don't last forever, but two years of taking maybe 100 photos per year? This is ridiculous!

Beginner Digital Camera

Kodak EasyShare C530 5MP Digital CameraThis basic digital camera is an absolute beginners camera. It is easy for an older person who prefers not to deal with updated technology as well as for a youngster who might have more technical expertise but isn't responsible enough for a more expensive camera. Easy to use and good sharp pictures. Would purchase again but would want to know that it is basic point and shoot with few extras.

Terrible camera

This camera is awful. I recieved it for Christmas in 2006 and I dreaded taking pictures with it all year long in 2007. Pictures from this camera taken in a low lit room are terrible. The quality on some is grainy and very unsharp. Do not buy this camera!!!!!!

Good

The camera is reasonably priced, easy to operate and the clarity of pictures is good. The service I received when I faced a problem with the camera was decent and they replaced it with a new one in the warranty period.

Editorial Review :

Let's get back down to basics. You want a digital-camera that's extremely easy to use - right out of the box. That's the premise behind the EasyShare C300. Yet with 3.2 megapixel image resolution, your images are sharp, detailed, and beautiful. In case you're unfamiliar with how digital cameras work, here are a few points. Film is no longer used. All images are stored on a re-useable SecureDigital memory card. Those images can be printed on photo printers that you can either buy as an accessory. You can also get pictures printed at select photo labs. A really nice thing about digital cameras is an LCD screen (usually on the rear of the camera) that displays the pictures you've taken (and stored). You see all the pictures and can edit out the ones you don't want. Kodak's EasyShare makes it even simpler. If you've got a computer you can transfer images to it, send them over the Internet, organize them into albums, do further enhancements, and print them on your computer's printer. In addition, you can view your images on TV or a digital frame. You can even shoot movies withb this camera, in addition to still pictures. Say goodbye to film and hello to the Digital way. Trust Kodak to ensure quality and simplicity and accept this invitation to buy the EasyShare C300. Put moments in motion with digital video - Capture up to 30 seconds video Preview and review your pictures with the 1.5 color display with or without magnification Slide show feature displays all tagged pictures 10-second self-timer lets you get in the picture too 16 MB internal memory plus MMC/SD expansion slot lets you start shooting right out of the box Up to 2096 x1560 pixels resolution for prints up to 11x14 / 320x240 Video resolution at 15 fps Size WHD - 4.1x2.6x1.6 inches

Perfection In an Imperfect World

Good Grief! What do you expect out of a low-priced camera! No, this is not a professional
let's shoot the Playmate of the Month camera. You can get those for around a thousand or so USD.
This is a versatile-use-it-out of the box camera for people just getting into digital photograhy or for those who
who want a digital camera without selling the farm. I've shot with one for about two years under some demanding
conditions. It has never failed even after it was dropped and took two bounces on top of the highest mountain in Maine.
It has always performed better than I was led to believe it would. It is not cheaply made even though it is made of plastic--it's sturdy
--no hinges have snaaped off--the lense hasn't dropped off.
Look..the camera snobs are writing misleading reviews about this camera and others. Give the people looking for a camera a break. No!
This not a Nikon, Cannon, or a Leica. It is one hell of an inexpensive digital camera that makes picture taking fun.

picture quality soso, sturdiness superior

I just want to add to the already available reviews: I agree with most what has been said here. Picture quality is quite below average. The same scene, just seconds apart, and you might get a different coloring in the picture (e.g. picture one is a little reddish, picture two is a little bluish). This is not too bad, though, if you just want a "I-visited-the-Brandenburg-Gate-with-Grandma" picture. I do use a Canon Digital Rebel XT for pictures that I want to turn out nice, but most of the times, the Kodak isn't too bad. If it is a little bad, mostly in low light conditions.
However: This camera is superior in sturdiness. I have taken it everywhere. I take it skiing and I fall with it in my jacket pocket, I drop it - anything. So it will probably make it a nice camera for kids (if you can explain to them that they need to wait the 0.7 seconds until it makes the "click" sound). I wouldn't buy it here, though. Go to ebay, you can get one for $30 there.

Zoom is horrible

I don't care if it had 100x zoom. That's not gonna matter if you cant tell what you were taking a picture of anyways. Its good for some family photos, but only if they're within 5 feet of you. The zoom function is pretty bad. Its a fun camera for a kid though. The price is just about right at about 100 dollars. It is simple to use and download off of. The zoom is just horrible though.

Wish I could return my Camera!

Had a Kodak for years that I loved so I decided to upgrade to the M853 for more mega pixels and because it looked cool. What a mistake! The lens is SLOW! Half of my pictures are blurry which is really annoying because I was taking pictures of a wedding and others of my young niece and most looked terrible when I got them to my computer. The blur feature is only somewhat reliable as many pictures that are blurry still have a green hand which is supposed to mean they are clear.

I read mixed reviews about this camera before I bought it but decided that since my old Kodak was great that this one was sure to be great too. It is not. I really wish that I had returned this camera and now it is to late.

I am going on a trip soon and have decided that I will be using my old camera instead of this new one. A total shame!

Do yourself a favor and spend the extra $100

I bought this camera for roughly $100. Simply put, it is NOT a good camera. I've taken it on two trips and one concert. I have beautiful memories and blurry/grainy photos. I'm not a newb, I know how to use a digital camera and this one just didn't cut the mustard. Plus, like many other posts I've read on the internet about this camera, the LCD panel crapped out on me two weeks into owning the camera.

I wish I would have spent the extra $100 on a Canon Powershot 1100.

Questions & Answers
Question : How can I get a clearer picture on my Kodak digital camera?
I have a P850 Kodak digital camera and I can't get close up pictures ( of flowers, animals etc..) to be very clear. Any suggestions?

Answer:
well if you have the 24-140 lens than your minimum focusing distance is 2.0 - 20.4 inches in macro focusing range according the datasheet online i found for this camera. if you are staying within those limits and have the lens or camera set to macro it should be in focus. if not try using a tripod to keep the camera steady alot of times its you moving and you don't realize it. if not staying within 2.0-20.4 inches of your subject and you need to get further or closer try close up filters wich any decent camera store should sell and carry. or try buying a macro lens which only does macro. lmk if these solutions don't help- i love helping solve camera problems like this.

Question : How do you edit Kodak digital camera videos?
I want to edit a video I took on my Kodak easyshare digital camera, but the program that comes with the camera does not allow me to edit the video. Where can i download a free editing program that works with Kodak Easyshare software? Thanks in advance! :) i just want basic editing capabilities: trimming clips, adding titles, fading in and out, maybe some cool transition effects? just any editing that is compatible with easyshare will make me a happy camper. :) i have windows movie maker but the video files are not compatible with the moviemaker program. any idea on how you convert them so they are usable??

Question : I have a Kodak Digital Camera and it got wet, how can I fix it myself?
I have a Kodak Easy Share Z740 Digital Camera that was sent to get repaired but the extendant warranty does not cover water/moisture getting into the camera. My dad is going to kill me when he finds out!! I'm in a hurry,Please help me.

Answer:
If you have to ask you don''t have the technical ability yourself. Look in your phone book and see if there is a local camera repair centre and pay for the repair yourself. As this camera is a low end one it may not be worth the cost of repairing it. Maybe a replacement is in order. Have you ever thought of being honest with your father? As a parent I know I would prefer the last option. Good luck

Question : Transfering pictures from Kodak digital camera to Dell Desktop?
I recently reformatted my hard drive. Before I would plug my Kodak digital camera in and then a menu would pop up and I could transfer my pictures from my camera to my Dell Dimenson 3000 desktop. I could also do some minor editing like the darkness and cropping. Now when I plug in the camera, nothing happens. Do I need to reinstall a driver or software. I had whatever was standard/came with the computer. What do I need to get it back to the way it was before I reformatted the computer? I already have the CD that came with camera and tried D/L software from Kodak. Both are the same. I don't like that program, too complicated. I am looking for the program that came with the computer, but not sure what it would be called.

Answer:
If you go to the Kodak website, you can type in the model of the camera that you have and it will give you the option of downloading the updated drivers for your camera as well as the updated "EasyShare" software. No need to look for you CD that came with the camera. You may have to register on the site but it's ad/spy-free anyway and you can opt-out of emails. Hope that helps.

Answer:
Picasa is a great one. It will transfer the pictures from the camera, allow you to set up galleries, edit the pictures, and soon upload them to a web-based gallery. http://www.picasa.com

I have a Kodak digital camera and have home movies that I took with it saved on my computer. They are erased off of the camera memory now. I also have them saved on a flash drive. I'm trying to find out if the videos or pictures can be viewed on something else like an ipod, from the flash drive, or if you can burn them to a DVD or something like that. Question : Has anyone used the new Kodak digital camera to take sports pics in a high school gym?
I have a camera but the pictures always come out blury. I was told I need a stableization in my camera like the new Kodak has. I want to make sure if I get that camera it will work fine. It is frustrating because I want to take good action shots of my son on the court and they come out blury. Any feedback?

Answer:
sorry you heard that. a stabilizer takes away your hand shaking not an object moving. the light in a gym seems bright. but, it fools the camera. if you write an email to me and tell me what kind of camera you have - I might be able to help you. the best thing you can do without changing the camera settings - is to get as close as you can and use the flash.
