I LOVE THIS CAMERA!!

We've had this camera since June of '05....and it still works great! I love how easy it is to use! Turning it on/off, zooming, reviewing and sharing the photos is so easy. There are 3 of us in our family with the same camera, and we all love it so much. Now that Kodak makes nothing similar to replace it with, we are being more careful with it to make sure nothing happens to it. We use it all the time (especially with a 2 year old!) and have just started to notice that it needs a new battery. Wish Kodak would introduce the same camera again with a few updates. Definately reccomend hanging on to this camera if you have one...or buy it if you find one! It's really great!

Still a Fantastic Camera!

After reading the negative reviews on this little camera, I felt obliged to put in my two-cents' worth! I've used a Kodak DX4530 (Excellent camera) for about 4 years now and decided to hand it down to my daughter. I came across a DX7440 in a pawn shop. It was mint condition, but the pawn shop owner thought he fried the camera accidentally. I handed him $25 and walked away with my PRIZE! I ordered new batteries for it, THREE KLIC-5001 batteries for $18 TOTAL. I was not sure if it would work until I received my batteries, charged one and tried to use it. Well, it worked.....and is a fantastic little camera. No need to pay $30 for a single battery when you can order a set of 3 KLIC-5001's for a total of $18 (already includes shipping).

It may not be small enough to fit into your pocket, but unlike the newer pocket-sized cameras, the DX7440 has large front and back hand-grip areas - where the newer cameras are SO compact, that there is no place to grip the back with your thumb, and little area on the front. So I would gladly give up a "pocket option" for these benefits. Plus, the "feel" of this camera in my hand represents (to me) a feel of quality.

As for fuzzy pictures, I have yet to take one where it was the camera's fault. Now that I know all the options available on my DX7440, my family is stunned at the quality of pictures from this little camera. I took three pictures using the three obvious features and the picture started out VERY blurry. The second was still awful, but much better than the 1st. The 3rd picture, using the top "flower" button option, was stunning! So one only need learn the abilities of the camera.

As for not taking pictures well inside or in dark areas -- again, using the correct simple options available on this camera, I have yet to miss a great picture opportunity in the dark. They are fantastic! One must simply read the manual and learn the camera. It is truly a great little camera with so many options for the price.

The unlimited video-taking is great and the quality of the video is great. Keep in mind that this is a digital CAMERA, not a dedicated video camera. Obviously, the internal memory is insufficient for handling much video. So you would be well advised to purchase additional memory for your DX7440.

The automatic lens cover is great! My DX4530 had a cap that popped off and dangled from a tether. So the auto-lens cover is a welcomed addition.

There are only two negative things stated about this little DX7440 that I cannot defend. One is that the battery clip (orange tab) breaks easily. But it is an irrelevant piece. The door holds the KLIC-5001 quite well. I'm not sure about the KLIC-5000 battery, given that it is a thinner battery. But personally, I prefer the 5001 because it lasts longer - and the 5001 charger came with the camera from the pawn shop! Be forewarned though: DO NOT try to charge a KLIC-5000 battery in a KLIC-5001 charger. You will fry the battery!

The other negative comment made about this camera is a biggie! The Mode Dial (or "wheel" as we are calling it) can be a problem for some. My camera works perfect, as does my parents. But when I tried to find a good used one for my sister, the first one arrived with a Mode Dial that would hardly turn at all. I returned it. I bought another used one, which camera is in mint condition. But again, the Mode Dial was very difficult to turn. After using it quite a few times, my sister says it's working just great now. Not sure what causes the Mode Dial problem, if it's preventable or user-induced problem. The used we bought for us and the used one we bought for my parents work like a charm! Initially, we took my sister's camera to a camera shop and they suggested that it may have some dust or dirt lodged behind the wheel (and this must have been the case, since hers is now working great!) The wheel is obviously connected to the control circuit board, which is essentially the entire camera. So if there is a problem with the wheel of a NEW camera, you would be well advised to return it immediately to have the problem fixed by Kodak.

I would mention as well, that it is better to first deal with Kodak via E-mail. You will get personal attention a little easier that way, and be locked into a particular person. They DO have nice and knowledgeable people there....if you go about it the right way! It may not be as simple as picking up a phone, but it will get the job done!

We now have three of these DX7440s in our family and we are ALL very thrilled with the picture/video/sound/option qualities of this little camera.

Still going strong after four years

My husband bought me this camera as a surprise Christmas present about four years ago and it quickly became my favorite camera. It has been my camera of choice for two trips to Disneyland, a trip to Disney World and a cruise. It's a fantastic camera, and very easy for someone not technologically skilled like me to understand how to use. Battery life is great, I'm able to go through about two days of consistent use on our trips before I need to recharge. Speaking of which, recharging is a cinch, I bring the little charger, plug it in at the hotel room in the evening and by the next morning I'm ready to go (usually takes less than that but I plug it in and go to bed).

My only problems have been with trying to use the camera in lower lighting situations, like at my children's school assemblies and performances. Perhaps I'm not using the settings correctly but those pictures are coming out too dark with the colors off.

This has been one of the best presents ever. We're headed for another trip next year and this camera will be on my "must pack" list.

Best Camera Ever!

I have had my camera for over 2 years now and I like it so well that I bought two more, one for my Mom and one for my Dad. I also recommended this camera to a friend and she loves it. We off road in Jeeps and this camera has been subjected to all kinds of things like dirt, mud and rain as well as being banged around over ruff terrain and it has never let me down. It takes excellent pictures and it doesn't have a delay when you take the picture like so many cameras have today. It's very easy to use and always takes a great picture.

1 star too much

I purchased the C340 last Christmas and it has been a dismal disappointment, great for making dark pictures indoors and eats batteries by the case, forget rechargeable batteries, they will only last for a few pictures. Save you money and buy a decent camera such as a Canon anything. This thing is a real piece of junk.

Love affair is over...

I am sooo disappointed. I loved this camera and the docking station when I first got it and actually up until recently. This camera did well for me for about two years with intermittant use. I cannott take pics with it anymore however. Unfortunately I discovered that it quit working on my daughter's fourth birthday. The pictures ALL come out dark no matter what I do. The batteries do not last more than a day or two. This goes for regular AA's and rechargeable. I could go on and on. I hope the newer models of this camera are better and last longer. I am going with an entirely different camera altogether.

After a couple of years use...

Our family bought three Kodak C340 cameras a couple of years ago. This is a summary of our experience with them. Overall rating: 'Wish we'd chosen something else'.

Pros: Picture quality is OK for our uses.
Cons:
* While the camera has a USB interface (with cable supplied) it is NOT recognised as a standard mass storage device, so your options are to either install the horribly bloated, insultingly dumbed down and inflexible 'Easyshare' software (which wouldn't even work on one of our older PCs), or, you can buy a flash card reader. Which is what I did.
I'll never buy another camera that requires any special software on the PCs it's used with. I just want to transfer the image files to where ever I want to put them in my filesystem, on any PC, with minimum fuss.

* Astonishingly, when the camera is plugged into the USB cable, it is still running off batteries. If they go flat during image transfers, file corruption can result. Also, this means you can't use the camera to take photos while 'plugged in' thus saving battery life and allowing lengthy use. Another reason it's best to just use a flash card reader.

* Fragility, poor reliability. Of our three cameras, two are now broken and unusable. The third is still OK, due to hardly ever being used. The broken two had similar histories - minor knocks broke the miniscule plastic retaining tabs on the battery cover (causing endless nuisance improvising ways to hold the cover on), and later both cameras just suddenly stopped working. On power-up, the status LED blinks a few times (presumably some error code, no mention of which in the manual), then goes dead. Screen remains black.

* Battery life (or rather, lack of it.) As many have commented, this camera chews batteries. It takes two AAs, and with even the best non-rechargables you won't be filling up a 256MB flash card on one set of batteries. You'll be lucky to get 30 pictures. If you want to save money and use rechargables, you'll get even less shots per charge, since rechargables batteries are typically 1.2V, compared to alkaline's 1.5V. The camera seems to have a fairly high threshold for 'dead', and so on rechargables this camera conks out well before the battery is actually flat. For this factor alone, I'll never buy another 'cheap' Kodak camera.

* However, of all the camera's 'features', the most infuriating and unacceptable is the selector knob. Some Kodak product designer needs to be fired for this. (Or shot.) The knob has unbelievably weak detents - it rotates between OFF and the various modes at a feather touch. Since the knob sticks up on the top of the camera, this means that no matter how careful you are when it is being carried (even in a camera bag) it will get switched on accidentally. Often. This combined with the extremely short battery life, means that if you want to be sure to get pictures, you have to carry _several_ spare sets of batteries.

Overall, our experience with these was rather disappointing. Sure, they were relatively low cost, but to have two out of three die so quickly, seems very poor. We won't be buying Kodak again.

The Perfect All Around Camera

I will not repeat all the positives found in reviews on this site and on others. I have owned 23 digital cameras (most for reviews) over the past 20 years, and I must say this is the best all around camera of them all. It is not quite a s good as some of the Fujis for very low light shooting, but other than that it can compete with $500 cameras easily. Picture quaility is what counts and this camera even beats my Canon G7 in that regard and easily beats the Fujis in adequate lighting. I have had no problems with this camera and have loved it from day one. With all the professional settings as well as point and shoot, it can appeal to everyone. At the price, it is a steal. Those who write negative reviews about this camera either have a defective unit or do not know how to use a camera, or think they are writing a review on a $1.000 camera. Highly recommended without reservation.

A little disappointed

Is is just me or has anyone else experienced a grinding noise coming from this camera?? Right out of the box, it sounds like a little motor wants to shut down. Is this normal?? I didn't expect the camera to make any noise aside from zooming in and out. Please let me know if anyone else has experienced the same thing.

Very Very Bad Repair and Warranty

This camera worked good for about six months, then it would just shut down. It will turn itself off, and won't turn back on. I sent it in to be repaired while it was still under warranty. They returned the camera to me without fixing the problem. So I sent it back and now they are telling me I have to pay $150 to have the camera repaired or I can buy a different kodak camera and get 15% off. Even though the camera was sent back to me the first time without being repaired while it was under warranty, they will not fix it. Nobody at Kodak or precision camera was willing to stand behind the camera or the warranty.

Amazing Camera...Amazing Zoom

I wanted a digital camera that I could zoom onto the field of my nephew playing football and other sporting activities far away. I did extensive research on all kinds of different cameras and finally chose this one. I am SO glad I did. Thousands of extremely clear pictures and hundreds of zoomed (!) videos later I know I made the right decision for me. If you are focused on zoom and clarity you will enjoy this.

Owned this camera less than 1 year and its in the shop for the second time. Customer support was okay the first time but sucks now because they put me on hold for so long that I didn't get the issues resolved. I'm willing to try another Z612 before switching brands because I love the picture quality and the ease of operation.

Good for its purpose...

The thing about this camera is that its a point-and-shoot. Its super easy to use, but no matter what you're doing, its extremely difficult to capture a picture that looks completely clear when it is blown up to the size its supposed to blow up to. The zoom goes up to 3.0, but is only clear to about 1.5, and the machine makes the 1.5x and more zoom seem lousy on the interface. I used this camera for a trip and got some good pictures, but was disappointed to see that many of the pictures didn't appear clearly full size.
Its definitely a good camera with over 15 picture modes, but it hasn't won me over because its lack of image stabilization.

Rating :

Expensive Disposable - below average pictures.

When the camera was first released, many customers experienced a problem in which the camera would freeze periodically and the only way to regain control would be to remove the battery and power cycle. Another more recent problem consumers are experiencing now is cracking the fragile LCD screen on this device. It's roughly as durable as an eggshell. Once the LCD is broken you cannot use this camera. Don't be tempted to buy a used one without the LCD... it's useless. Lastly, when the camera is working properly, it does not perform nearly as well as other cameras in its 2007 class - there are many cameras that produce better pictures at lower retail prices. When I presented a working version of this camera to many friends and family I COULD NOT TRADE OR EVEN GIVE IT AWAY for FREE. My friends and relatives liked their Fujitsu, Nikon or Canon ALOT better. Don't give into the temptation to pick up this inexpensive 8MP camera; you WILL be dissapointed.

Having Trouble

I bought this camera - Kodak EasyShare V803 8MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Zoom (Mystic Purple) for my neice as a birthday present. The good part is it worked on her birthday. The bad news is that it hasn't worked since. Her mother has been trying to contact the supplier to return it for over three weeks. They've been closed for the holiday(?). So, I'm not happy with this purchase at all and will not buy any other electronic items from Amazon or their vendors. I will have Amex involved in this by this coming Monday, if the problem is not resolved. Amazon's good for books and anything without moving parts and that's about it.

I want to plug my Kodak camera into my TV so it can record video game footage. Does anyone know if this works? If anyone has done this before please assist me! I appreciate it!

I also want to know why it wont let me upload them onto windows movie maker to edit and make a movie out of them. It says that ".mov" files are uploadable under WMM help, yet every time i try to upload them it says something along the lines of it not being compatable. Does anybody know why this is? Question : Transfering pictures from Kodak digital camera to Dell Desktop?
I recently reformatted my hard drive. Before I would plug my Kodak digital camera in and then a menu would pop up and I could transfer my pictures from my camera to my Dell Dimenson 3000 desktop. I could also do some minor editing like the darkness and cropping. Now when I plug in the camera, nothing happens. Do I need to reinstall a driver or software. I had whatever was standard/came with the computer. What do I need to get it back to the way it was before I reformatted the computer? I already have the CD that came with camera and tried D/L software from Kodak. Both are the same. I don't like that program, too complicated. I am looking for the program that came with the computer, but not sure what it would be called.

Answer:
If you go to the Kodak website, you can type in the model of the camera that you have and it will give you the option of downloading the updated drivers for your camera as well as the updated "EasyShare" software. No need to look for you CD that came with the camera. You may have to register on the site but it's ad/spy-free anyway and you can opt-out of emails. Hope that helps.

Question : Kodak Digital camera, c653, got dampened in water is it repairable?
I got the kodak c653 digital camera which got dampened, can it be repaired if yes whom do i need to show? i stay at hyderabad, please suggest..

Answer:
Electronics and water don't go well together. If it works after drying out, great. If not, the water probably caused a short circuit which would make it doubtful that it can be repaired. However, I've seen electronics survive water damage, but the battery was ruined. You might get lucky and get by with only having to get a new battery.

Question : i recently broke the internal screen of my kodak digital camera. Is it fixable?
the camera was a kodak c513 eashy share camera. the external screen isn't cracked, but the internal screen is. the camera only costs about $85, but it is sold out in most stores. how much would it cost to fix, if at all fixable?

Answer:
It can be fixed, but it would probably cost $85 to fix, or more. So, you must ask yourself, is this worth fixing? You can easily get a much better camera for $100, or an even better one for $150. Personally, I would just buy a new camera.

Question : Can i somehow put filters on my tiny kodak digital camera??
I have a small kodak digital camera, it's just plain digital. It doesn't even have a "mm" sized lense. Just a regular digital camera. is there a way to adapt lenses to it? would they be effective if i had to rig up something? or would the become deffective because of the distance between the lens and the filter?

Answer:
what sort of filters do you want to add to it? in this age of digital photography the only useful filter would be a UV filter for protection, any other effects could be replicated in digital editing. If you do want effects without editing, you could get away with holding up a filter to the lens but, really, why? and yes, the further you hold from the lens, the more distortion you will get. but hey, try it. no harm can come...
