Lens Error

My daughter and I both have this camera, and a friend of hers has a similar Kodak digital camera. All three of these cameras have experienced the same lens error at least twice. The camera will not work at all. The three cameras have been sent in 6 times all together so far, and my daughter's camera is once again saying lens error. It's RIDICULOUS! Kodak fixed mine after the warranty was expired, saying it was a one time courtesy, but I have no faith whatsoever that the camera will keep working for very long. Very frustrating. I have always trusted Kodak, but would never again buy a digital camera from them after this.

Dead new batteries

The batteries came with the camera were dead, which made me think the product was bad to start off. Fortunately my husband put his batteries in the pink camera for me, then it begins to function. I suggest Amazon not to send the batteries along even though it probably comes with the camera. It would mislead consumers to think otherwise, maybe they even would try to return the merchandise due to the faulty batteries. The camera is a simple, easy point and shoot device, light weight. It is noticeable, could not be misplaced, because it is uniquely "pink" so you don't have to look for it very hard, or mix it up with your friends'.

Kodak is always the way to go...

This is my 3rd kodak digital camera. The previous two I broke, the first just went everywhere with me (a million camping trips etc...) and it finally died. The second I dropped in walmart and shattered the screen. In any event this one has more mega pixels and a better zoom! It does however take a long time to snap back to back photos. There is a delay, probably a good 5 seconds. Aside from that it is great!

New Camera for Daughter

I got this camera for my daughter. She had an older Kodak that I gave to her when I bought myself a new one. It finally bit the dust. She is a new mommy (and I am a new grandma!) so she needed a camera to get those precious snaps of the baby. It is a great camera and the price was right!

EASY FOR ANYONE

We bought this camera for my wife to use,she doesn't like buttons and whistle's,this is a good pick for her, just the top lever to pick between still images and video, that's all she says she will use.It takes really good pictures on auto and the videos are not to bad either, just twist the lever to video mode and push the shutter button to start recording and push again to stop. She likes it and that's all that matters.Just be carefull when you first get the camera and install the batteries it is real easy to put them in backwards, the way the camera is marked fools you. Also the SD card slot is by the batteries makes it kind of difficult if you have clumsy fingers. Also just to point out that when you play the video back on the camera you will not hear the audio, their is no built in speaker so you will have to view it on your PC for the sound.

The features are nice, great outdoor pics but if u want to take photos inside try somethings else. Not the best quality photos, mine come out fuzzy and the color is dull even with the flash and setting the iso on high. If you want this for only outdoor then its fine indoors not so good.

Great camera for my use and the price paid

I bought this camera to backup my Canon Sx100. I acquired it as it came as a real bargain ($35) bundled with a movie on DVD I bought at BB. It works fine except that the C813 would not power on with two types of NIMH batteries I have. Using quality rechargeable batteries solved the problem and for the price I paid this camera is performing well and then some! (decent quality pictures and short video clips, easy to operate and light weight)

Horrible camera!

DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT purchase this camera. It is absolutely a piece of junk. It is horrible! I hate it! The optical zoom is a joke, the 8.2 mp do not make a difference and there is always a delay (when you press the button to take a picture, it doesn't work right away). A lot of times, the pictures turn out fuzzy. It is inexpensive for a reason - it's not worth anything. It's definitely worth it to spend a little more money to have a nice quality camera.

Never buying another Kodak product EVER!!

I bought this camera (pink colored) from a local store. When I opened the camera it didn't work correctly and instead of just trying to return it to the store I followed the instructions inside the package stating that I shouldn't return the camera to the store and instead should contact Kodak support. HUGE MISTAKE! I was directed to send the camera to a repair facility (at my own cost I might add) and told they would fix it and send it back. I received a letter from the repair facility stating that they couldn't fix the camera and that Kodak would send me a replacement camera. Kodak indeed sent me a different camera; one that was refurbished and a different color. I specifically bought the camera because it was pink as I already have a silver one. I called Kodak customer service which was another joke. I could barely hear or understand the people. In addition, I was told that they had no pink in the C813 so I was out of luck. They told me the had a cheaper model C713 in pink that they could send me instead. I asked for a refund since this isn't what I had originally purchased and they told me they couldn't do that, that only the store I had purchased it from could've provided me with a refund but since I followed their instructions (sending the camera in for repair), I no longer have the original camera to return in order to get a refund!!!! I looked on this website for a refurbished C813 in pink and what do you know, they have one!! When I pointed this out to the guy on the phone, he told me that this website and the warehouse where they were sending my replacement from were two different entities and therefore I still couldn't get the camera I wanted. So in the end, my options were to either keep the silver one that I didn't want or suck it up and take the cheaper one in pink. I really wanted a pink one, so I'm out the $10 price difference, the difference in camera features and the original cost of shipping the camera for repair. They did arrange for UPS to pick up the old camera at their expense, after I told them I wasn't paying to return a second camera. I guess the moral of my story is that if you buy a camera that doesn't work, insist that the store you bought it from take it back; DO NOT send it to Kodak for repair because who knows what you'll end up with after all is said and done!!
UPDATE: So the pink C713 I was suppose to get never arrived; instead they sent me back the Silver C813. Obviously the communication within Kodak stinks because they thought I sent the C813 in for repair! They returned the camera with a note that stated "we found your camera to be in working order...." when it was in fact suppose to be exchanged for the pink one. AGGGGGHHHH! I give up!!!!

Being Fair

To be fair to this camera, it is good and bad. It depends on what you're looking for in your camera.
I bought this camera in August 2008 and now it's on eBay. I upgraded from a Kodak C series point and shoot digital and thought this was the logical next step for upgrading to an SLR format. I also really like the EasyShare software.
I was very disappointed with the camera.

First of all, do not be decieved by how large this camera looks in the photograph on ANY website. It is very small and light weight. Which can go one of two ways depending on what you're looking for.
There is no fun clicking sound after you take a shot, no shutter closure, the camera makes more of a hissing sound. That can take the fun out of taking photos for some people.

The lens has a wonderful zoom of 12x optical, but the lens is slow to respond to zoom commands. The camera is slow overall and often did not turn on quickly when I went to use it. I had to turn it on and off several times before it was ready to go.

The burst mode is horrible, it lags when shooting anything and it freezes up often. Which is bad news for people shooting children in motion. Or any wildlife shots. Even in the special function modes, like sport, etc, it lags and the photos come out blurry. It's speed performance leaves a lot to be desired and I ended up shooting in automatic mode more often then I wanted to b/c I knew I would miss critical shots if I changed the settings.

I used the fireworks setting for shooting fireworks at Walt Disney World and all of the photos ended up blurry. I was stood as still as I could while the shot was being processed and none of them were usable. Once I switched to shutter priority and set the shutter speed very low, I was able to capture some nice shots. So the fireworks setting was useless.

10.1 megapixels does not a good camera make. It's nice to have if you're blowing up shots to the size of a billboard, but otherwise, if you're getting sucked in by the high MP, look elsewhere. It's just not that important in a camera this small.

The f number has a surprisingly high setting at 2.8. I was able to shoot in apeture priority quite a bit and get some very beautiful macro photos. The borkeh was beautiful and the depth of field was lovely. The photos I am most proud of that I took with this camera are the ones shot in apeture priority.

Every shot I took in Program mode came back blurry. Even professional photographers that I know who used P mode couldn't quite get it. So back to the auto setting.
Manual mode was a waste since this zoom lens is too hard to control for manual shots. It's fine for manual macro shots, but, otherwise, another miss.
The Shutter Priority mode is just ok. Since the camera is really slow overall, it's not much of an improvement to change the shutter priority to anything fast, since it's never really fast at all. The click to capture best in class award must be a joke. Seriously, there is no speed with this camera.

The flash always fires, even when I had the flash turned off and wanted to shoot in natural light. That was impossible to overcome.

The camera does not come with a battery. You can expect to purchase an alkaline battery and the recharger separetely. So the camera does not work out of the box. You can use regular AA batteries, but they will be drained within a day. You also have to purchase extra memory cards. The camera held maybe 20 pictures without the memory card.

If you're not into using the viewfinder, then you're in luck since this camera comes equiped with the option to use either the viewfinder or the monitor for picture-taking.

The battery life seemed to be fine. I used it all day on several vacations and trips and even when the battery started to get low, I would turn off the camera and that gave the battery a boost. It charges up quickly which is a nice turnaround feature. The small size of the camera is nice for traveling with and easy for carrying around. It can be mounted to a tripod, if you so desire.

The worst part about this camera is the speed of it is just totally lacking. The additional modes to use are pretty worthless, but it's is nice to have advanced settings (PASM) to experiement with. You're better off with a regular point and shoot if you're not into creative photography. If you're into exploring photos and taking more creative shots and learning more, then this camera is a SKIP. Do not waste your money or time on it. Go for something like the Canon Rebel XSi or the Nikon 40D. Spend a couple of hundred dollars more to get exactly what you want (or save money and just stick with a point and shoot.)
I just upgraded to the Canon 40D and skipped over all the step-up cameras and went for the one I knew I'd end up.
The class this camera belongs to is confusing...it's not a point and shoot and it's not a true SLR...

Last point - HD video. I took HD video of my 3 year old trick or treating with my niece. It would have been a nice keepsake, but when I played the video back, it was extremely choppy. It wasn't even watchable since it cut in and out from start to finish. That feature was disappointing to say the least. I planned to send it off to my brother who lives some distance from me, but since it wasn't watchable and we couldnt' even tell what was going on, I never did send it.

It's pretty good!

I just received this camera about a week ago, so I haven't gotten a chance to totaly mess around with all of the cameras functions. The picture quality is great, but I have noticed that when I upload my photos onto my pc, on some photos the corners are dark. I'm wondering if anyone else has had the same issue with it. Utherwise I really like the camera.

Great camera with an excellent zoom ability!

I have been using this camera for over a year. It's great to capture action during sporting events, even soccer from the sidelines across a big field. The strong optical zoom is great. The pictures it takes are crystal clear, sharp, and have true colors. The panorama option is incredible. It stitches three photos together seamlessly. Con's: The on/off slider switch is poorly designed. The battery does not recharge in the camera.

We lovethe Kodak Z1285

We purchased a Kodak Z1275 in August, 2007 and were instantly amazed. When we accidentally broke the screen, we immediately sent it in for repairs, and bought a Z1285 to cover in its absence (in July, 2008). We have taken ~4,400 pictures on the Z1275 and 500+ on the Z1285.

The Z1275 and Z1285 are largely the same. The only changes I have seen (beyond body color) is that the 1275 has bracketing settings and that the 1285 has a much quieter motor, which greatly helps when taking movies.

The image quality, coupled with the small size (but not too small, like so many unusable `tiny' cameras), is what has one of them in my pocket virtually all weekend, and in my briefcase while on business travel during the week, and one at home for the family to use.

While on a trip to Southern California last April, I took similar photos with the Z1275 and with professional Kodak Portra film, and I was stunned at how much better the Z1275 images came out - the colors were brighter and more vibrant, and the details amazing. We could also see some incredibly small details on the bugs on the flowers, and those pictures were from a foot or two away.

The short list of the best features are:
- Ease of use... Kodak really thought through the buttons and the menus to make it all quite easy to quickly jump through
- The strength of the video quality - I do recommend a tripod for less shaking from natural body movements
- Action prints makes pictures of the videos.
- The P/M setting lets me get amazing night photos, including shots of stars; while I prefer ISO 64 wherever possible, some of the darkest settings come better in the still-sharp 400 and 800 speed settings.
- Great close-up pictures of the flowers (if only I could get the wind to stop blowing better)
- Panoramic images (stitched in-camera) that capture scenes so well (I hope they upgrade to full 12-megapixels for these; they currently step-down to 4mp)
- Perfect Touch technology is simply amazing, taking good pictures and making them truly great!
- Out kids love taking pictures and quickly learned how to use it themselves

For batteries, I recommend Energizer 2500 mAh NiMH AA rechargeables and their compact charger.

Kodak continues to be the premier photographic/imaging company in the world.

Camera good for the money, but display cracked

I bought this camera for the brand (always like Kodak), for the fact that it uses an SD card, AA batteries (rechargeables always!), and also for the megapixels it offered. I like the picture quality, especially for landscape, sport and sunset. Indoors with flash is not the greatest, and taking concert pictures does not give me great results. Video is good, sound quality is so-so. Advice to anyone purchasing this camera: use a padded case. I had this camera in the back of our motorcycle and we hit a deep hole (the camera was in my purse in a small case). The back display is broken (not in pieces but looks like a fireworks display when you turn the camera on). You can't see to take a picture, or review the images after you take a picture. But, if I take a picture, and put my SD card into a different camera, I can see the picture. I really liked this camera, but only used it for about 2 months. Take care of those digital cameras with large displays!

Another dissatisified customer

I was excited when I purchased this camera.. 12 megapixels, optical zoom! I bought it in September 2007. And it was treated so very well..no dropping, no nothing, hardly used it..

In September 2008, it started to freeze and die. Fresh batteries didn't help. Sometimes it turned on, sometimes not. Now it is permanently opened..the lens extended..and it will not turn on.

I had to buy a new camera in October (Nikon- I didn't make the same mistake twice) so I could take photos on my trip to see family.

I wrote several detailed emails to Kodak. They just recommended new batteries and other nonhelpful thoughts. Now I can't use the camera. Should I toss it, repair it? They do not replace defective cameras and they will not pay for repair, though there was ostensibly a year warranty on the darn thing. I don't really know what a warranty is worth. Nothing, apparantly.

My advice is- DO NOT BUY this camera..be wary of Kodak products. No help will be forthcoming should you get a crappy product. Maybe all digital camera makers are like this...I don't know yet.

TERRIBLE, POOR DESIGN, UNACCEPTABLE PERFORMANCE-DO NOT BUY

I am sorry to have taken so long to write this review. I have had the Kodak Z1285 camera for about 6 months now. This camera has angered me so much, that I finally had to sit down and warn others of its absolutely terrible performance.

Sure, it looks like a great deal: 12 megapixels, 5x optical zoom, HD video, etc. However, the performance is UNACCEPTABLE. The first thing is a constant blue screen of death. After literally each picture, when you are ready to snap the second precious pic of any loved one or special moment, this camera blanks out to a "blue screen of death" with the word "Processing" displayed. This blue screen lasts anywhere from 3 seconds to 30 seconds and disables your ability to snap a picture. Bye Bye precious moment. This one feature alone makes this camera unsatisfactory for anyone's use. It is a definite deal killer.

I called Kodak about this and wrote emails. They do not seem to be aware of this problem and gave me the standard "we apologize for blah blah blah." They suggested that either the batteries needed replacement or the memory card was defective. Neither was the problem. I use lithium AA batteries (great batteries by the way - forget alkalines for your camera.) I also used different memory cards all from the most reputable supplier "SanDisk." The Blue Screen of Processing Death is in the camera. You will be EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED due to this design defect. Kodak did not offer to refund my money.

The next deal killer is the video. Forget taking HD video with this camera. My Razr cell phone takes better video - literally. The video on this camera is CHOPPY, STAGGERS, MISSES ACTION, and is TOTALLY UNWATCHABLE. You could take successive photos, place them in a stack and flip through them quickly and get better animation movement. The video at ANY setting (of quality resolution) is UNACCEPTABLE. It's like the camera has to stop taping and REFOCUS every 1/2 second to 2 seconds. Much action is truly missed and the movie is more like flipping pages through a story book and "skipping through time."

The next deal killer is the optical zoom. The camera zooms but it is too shaky to take a picture with. And for some reason all the pictures taken at high zoom are GRAINY. Color rendition is also EXTREMELY POOR. In essence, the zoom is USELESS.

In addition, the "Image Stabilization" option is a knob setting and not a selection that can be used for every mode of picture taking. So if you want to use a night shot or the "Beach" or "Firecracker" or "Museum" or ANY mode setting, you CANNOT USE the image stabilization at the same time since it is not setting. In fact, when you select the Image Stabilization, there is no way to tell what mode the camera is in or how it is adjusting the speed or ISO settings. The "Image Stabilization" setting is thus USELESS. When on high zoom, you definitely need image stabilization because the camera is so shaky and sensitive to movement your photo will be BLURRY and SMEARED and UNACCEPTABLE. So if you wanted to, for example, take a night time shot of a city scene with all the city lights, from far away, and you zoom up on it, you CANNOT engage the stabilization feature and your picture will, without FAIL, come out BLURRED.

I should note that the camera has a good feel to it and does not feel like a cheap plastic camera. That is its one nice feature. However, it cannot take a decent picture even when all lighting and subject conditions are optimal. Note also that there is no viewfinder so you must always use the LCD screen (a battery life waster).

In conclusion, this camera is SLOW, POORLY DESIGNED, and takes LOUSY, POOR-COLOR RENDITION pictures. The video is COMPLETELY UNUSABLE. I had owned a Kodak 3 megapixel camera for several years before I got this one. The old Kodak camera took wonderful pictures. This Z1285 model however, has set digital photography back many years. All in all, buy AT YOUR OWN RISK. I wish I had taken this camera back when I first got it. I just couldn't believe it was as bad as it truly is. My fellow citizens - consider yourselves FOREWARNED. Best of luck to all.

Questions & Answers
Question : How can I get a clearer picture on my Kodak digital camera?
I have a P850 Kodak digital camera and I can't get close up pictures ( of flowers, animals etc..) to be very clear. Any suggestions?

Answer:
well if you have the 24-140 lens than your minimum focusing distance is 2.0 - 20.4 inches in macro focusing range according the datasheet online i found for this camera. if you are staying within those limits and have the lens or camera set to macro it should be in focus. if not try using a tripod to keep the camera steady alot of times its you moving and you don't realize it. if not staying within 2.0-20.4 inches of your subject and you need to get further or closer try close up filters wich any decent camera store should sell and carry. or try buying a macro lens which only does macro. lmk if these solutions don't help- i love helping solve camera problems like this.

Question : What’s the best Kodak digital camera for under $300?
I have had my Kodak easy share cx6330 3.1 mega pixel for about 4 years. Its been a great little camera but I think its time for an upgrade. I love the ease in use of the Kodak cameras plus all my other accessories are Kodak, so if possible I would like to stick with a Kodak camera.. Unless I’m expecting to much out of a Kodak?... I own a small clothing company and I need the clearest photos possible to capture details in the designs. My older model just is not cutting it any longer. Recently I’m having problems with really blurry images and pretty bad color accuracy. It works great for just your average photo.. But not so much for getting really crisp details. Some of the specs I’m looking for are excellent clarity and sharpness (decent if not great, image stabilization), especially in low light conditions. Color accuracy is also pretty important. Thanks a million to anyone that can offer any suggestions!!!

Answer:
I have a Kodak Easyshare C653 6.1 megapixel. I don't know much about cameras, but I love this one. It has really good settings for the perfect times. I can take good actual pictures of fireworks with the "fireworks" setting and see them without only seeing a big ball of light. But we're talking color accuracy, right? Not sure how to tell you about that... Let me load some pictures I've taken to photobucket or something and link them back to this page in a few minutes. Edit: Actually, after reading the other answer, let me add on. My grandma has a Nikon CoolPix 4600 4.0 megapixel. It takes a really still picture, actually. Better than my Kodak can, I believe. But one little shake makes the picture awfully blurry. I'm still finding pictures to upload and share with you. Edit 2: Oh, and I got my Kodak camera for about $200. It was probably on sale, I'm not sure. I've got the pictures now, I hope they're good examples. The title of the picture tells you which camera I took it with; either the Kodak or Nikon Coolpix.

Question : 10 points!!! How can I upload pictures from my Kodak digital camera into my computer?
My camera is a Kodak Digital camera DC210.

Answer:
Didn't the camera come with a cable? All of mine have a cable that links the camera to the computer. Then I turn it on and the computer asks if I want to import the photos.

Question : Kodak Digital camera, c653, got dampened in water is it repairable?
I got the kodak c653 digital camera which got dampened, can it be repaired if yes whom do i need to show? i stay at hyderabad, please suggest..

Answer:
Electronics and water don't go well together. If it works after drying out, great. If not, the water probably caused a short circuit which would make it doubtful that it can be repaired. However, I've seen electronics survive water damage, but the battery was ruined. You might get lucky and get by with only having to get a new battery.

Question : I have a Kodak Digital Camera and it got wet, how can I fix it myself?
I have a Kodak Easy Share Z740 Digital Camera that was sent to get repaired but the extendant warranty does not cover water/moisture getting into the camera. My dad is going to kill me when he finds out!! I'm in a hurry,Please help me.

Answer:
If you have to ask you don''t have the technical ability yourself. Look in your phone book and see if there is a local camera repair centre and pay for the repair yourself. As this camera is a low end one it may not be worth the cost of repairing it. Maybe a replacement is in order. Have you ever thought of being honest with your father? As a parent I know I would prefer the last option. Good luck

Question : Best Kodak Digital Camera, or Digital Cameras in general?
I'm planning on buying a digital camera soon and I was just wondering which Kodak Digital Camera is best. Some of my choices include: Kodak Easyshare V1273, Kodak Easyshare V1073, Or the Kodak Easyshare M883. I was also wondering if Kodak is a good Camera brand & if not, Which camera do you consider is good.

Answer:
Why Kodak? It's not a good brand for "Cameras" believe me. I'd suggest to go through some reviews before you make your decision. My favorite site for this is: www.dpreview.com (You may need to know the basic elements in digital photography to make a good choice) Finally, I'd go for Sony, Canon, Olympus, or Panasonic. Those are the really good ones. Good Luck...
