Don't waste your money

Used this camera for 2 months and it quit working. Don't bother calling HP they don't care.

Not to shabby.

I think one of the major things I disliked about the camera was its speed. When there is something important going on that I want to snap a quick photo of, it takes 10 seconds for the flash to load. Also, it eats through double A's. It is a relativly good camera for just like little still shots of your dog.

Cool cam!!!!!!

This camera is very tuff in a good way. Its taken lots of hits and spills and 3 drops NOT FROM ME. I'v taken it on 3 trips it's done well intill my friend droped it on a root it still works but the sliding door broke it's a very very good camera.(the screen didn't brake at all!)

It's very inexpensive

After reading through a lot of the reviews here I have to chime in. I have owned this model now for 2 years, having said that I have taken hundreds of pictures with it, many of these were very good and will be cherished. This is a great little camera for still photo's, let me repeat STILL photo's. It does a fantastic job of it, if you want to take photo's quickly (as in turn on and take a pic) forget it, it takes as long to turn on as Martha Stuart on dirty sheets. The flash recharge time isn't good so if you plan on taking several pics indoors in short order... forget it.
As I have put here it looks like a mixed bag of feelings, on the one hand I have kept it and used it for hundreds of photo's, on the other I have missed/deleted hundreds because of the slightest movement on my part or the slightest movement of the object. I'm a patient man but I have steadily grown to hate this camera over 2 years. I have always had a higher priority than buying a new camera. As I get older I would rather not put up with some things and this is one I chose to put up with no longer.

I hope this helps someone see it for what it is, fantastic for shooting stills, yet terrible for all around use. And please these cameras are horrific with standard batteries, use energizer e2 lithium you will see an difference beyond belief in the number of pics you can take (and they are lighter). IMHO

How can they sell a bad camera like this one?!

Fortunately this camera was a prize... not a penny wasted on it
I do not believe hot today can be sold a camera with fixed focus (maybe you think that with no focusing, your picture is taken just when you push the button - but that is not the case of this camera, that takes somewhat a second to shoot, even with no flash!!!), a sensor that seems to need a whole sun of ligth to produce a non grainy picture, an interface that because of it lack of buttons requires a lot of navigation even for simple and common adjusts. Not to mention its hungry of batteries, even alkaline or good NiMH ... is hp making batteries??? seems that they want to make money on bunchs of batteries sold to camera owners.
Please stay away of this camera, unless you want to have something that deserves your angry and a your hammer!
Pros: Lens cover.
Cons: Too many for this space!

Great camera, Happy customer

I took hundreds of pictures with this camera for my preschool. They were a better quality than some of the more expensive cameras that the parents took on our field trips. My only problem is that it would not use rechargeable batteries...hence 4 instead of 5 stars. Not a big deal. I'd buy it again.

GRRRREAT! AND FAST!

This camera is great! I ordered it the day before my birthday, it said it would come through May 20th-26th and it came the 19th! So woot! I can take over 500 pictures (it came with a memory card). The video is great, and the photos are great and clear. The only thing is the darn batteries! They run out too fast! But i have rechargeable batteries. I have trouble with uploading the videos, but i can learn! But so far, so good!

P.S. if you order it from amazon, i cannot guarantee that it will be nice and fresh, it depends who you order it from.

pansy

This is the wussiest camera I have ever used. I bought the year long warranty, which I highly recommend as I ended up breaking 4 of these cameras over 2 years. The shutter lens gets stuck constantly. If it gets just a little rain on it, it gets frazzled or dies. If you drop it, even from 3 or so feet, it's dead. If you are the kind of person who puts your camera in it's case in between every shot, and are vigilant about it's safety, then it's not a bad camera. But if you are even a little outdoorsy, or clumsy, and esp. if you're both, look at the olympus stylus 770 sw, or just don't buy this camera.

Point & Shoot Simplicity

HP Photosmart M425 5MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Zoom is simplicity itself. All the basic functions are there in this lightweight, basic compact camera. The icons are easily understood and onboard graphic additions like frames can be fun. It doesn't seem to go through batteries as fast as other digital cameras I have. It's also super easy to transfer images and videos to my computer, with or without HP's Photosmart software (I actually prefer Google's freeware, PicasaII, to transfer and catalog images much more quickly).

I keep it in my purse, and often pull it out to snap something or to show off my pictures, clearly visible in the 1.7" digital screen, to friends and co-workers (hey, if I have to look at their kids and grandkids pics, then they have to ooooh and aaahhhh over my pretty pet portraits!).

The only gripe I have is having to reset the date with battery changes (in the few instances I actually wanted a date-stamp on my photos).

Does what it's intended to do

A nice, solid little camera that does everything it should. The software if comes with is clunky; if you have the Windows Digital Camera Wizard on your computer, it will be faster and more efficient than the HP software. But the focus is nice, the flash is good, the picture quality is more than acceptable, all for an affordable price. I might not take wedding pictures with it, but it's certainly a fine day-to-day camera.

Also, as mentioned in other reviews, buy rechargeable batteries--it burns through a pair of AA batteries in about a day of photographing. You'll also need to buy a memory card, but they're easily obtainable, and for $15 you'll have more storage than you could ever need.

decent first time camera

I got this camera as a gift and it eats batteries but it's not bad for a starter camera. It still takes great pictures. If you buy a memory card for it too it can hold a lot of photos. Not the best, but still pretty good.

I still use, it was my first digi camera bought it in 2003 or 2004? cant remember but it still works but not that good, dropped a few times. it uses lots of battery juice. Rechargables dont work long in it. I paid about [...] or so then. wowwww how things come down

WORST Camera

This camera was a gift. The first camera didn't seem to be formatted correctly so we took it back & got another one to replace it.

We had trouble from day one. It EATS batteries, I use rechargeable batteries. At first I thought something was wrong with the batteries so I purchased a different brand of rechargeable batteries, it didn't change a thing. I take 5 pictures & Camera tells me batteries are low & it won't process or perform after that. Clarity is a problem as well. I spent 5 hours on the phone with several Techs in India, what a joke!
SAVE YOUR MONEY & DO NOT WASTE IT ON THIS CAMERA!!!!

Answer:
I guess it depends on what you plan to do with the camera and what kind of pictures you want to take. HP makes pretty decent printers and if you can get a sample shot printed from it prior to purchase depending on your satisfaction with the quality of the print that should be your main decision maker on that scale. Also be aware that if you're going to be say, printing a book a photo printer isn't the best choice because the quality is definitely inferior on that level. As for HP cameras I've never had any personal luck with them. As the previous poster stated HP camera's are 'ok' but for true quality I'd look at another brand. I'm a very big fan of Canons, but Nikons are also solid pieces of machinery, along with the sonys, in terms of reliable picture quality and satisfaction.

Question : my digital camera stopped working!?
Its a hp Hewlett Packard photosmart digital camera with 2x digital zoom.I put brand new batteries in it and even a new memory card. What can i do to fix it? I need Help! QUICK!

Answer:
Check that the batteries are inserted correctly. If it's under warranty, send it in for servicing. If it's not, try removing the batteries and leaving them out for a day or two. If it still doesn't work, toss it. Unfortunately, your cheapie HP won't be worth the cost to fix it, just replace it!

Question : How to import photo's from HP E427 camera to iPhoto on Mac?
Right, here's the problem, I have a Hewlett Packard E427 digital camera. I have no Hewlett Packard software. I'm trying to import photo's from the camera to iPhoto on my macbook. When I connect the camera to the macbook using USB, iPhoto opens automatically but doesn't give me an (obvious) option to import the photo's. According to Hewlett Packard, you do not have to use their software to import photo's. What am I doing wrong? It's driving me crazy! Thanks.

Answer:
Here a few problems I see: 1) Do you have the lastest update of iPhoto 2) Go do the side of your iPhoto and look for HPE427 3) If that doesnt show up, try it out on a friends Mac or Windows 4) If all fails get a SD card reader, their like $20 so it snot that big of a deal.

Question : Digital Camera?
I went to wal-mart last night and they had a Hewlett packard 5 megapixel camera and printer for $90. Is this a good deal or are HP's cheaper for a reason?

Answer:
Hi Kristen, HP Digital Cameras aren't that good. Get a Polararaid,or Canyon, or Nikon, or Sony. HP's aren't good.

Question : I want to get a digital camera for my girlfriend (under $250). Which one do you think? Your ideas?
She is artistic in many other ways but has never had a camera to get into photography. When she does take pictures (usually with her cell phone or disposable cameras) they come out BEAUTIFULLY. Neither of us knows much about cameras and while I don't really care to learn, she is so worried about picking the wrong one that she hasn't gotten anything. I know, from things she has mentioned that she wants: -Under $250 -Flash & 6+ MPixels -She likes taking pix of things VERY close up (flowers, birds) AND/OR of city skylines/lights at night -good zoom is VERY important to her I have looked at the ones below but am not set on anything yet: *Kodak EasyShare C875, 8 M.pix, 5x Opt./5x Dig. Zoom (our printer SUCKS so I was thinking prints would be easier, but she can always go to walgreens for prints) *Hewlett-Packard Photosmart M627, 7 M.pix., 3x Op./8x Dig. Zoom The more I look and compare, the more they all look EXACTLY THE SAME - so I don't want to look anymore. IDEAS? Another thing about what Im looking for is that it doesn't have to have video---she may use it if it was there but I don't think she would ever even notice if it wasn't

Answer:
I suggest viewing these two websites for some useful information... NOTE: I have the HP M417 and it works very well and takes some excellent pictures, so the 627 should be even better. _ _ _

No, but I have the HP M417 and I find it to have a lot of potential. Once I get more familiar with it, I'm sure my photos will be more consistantly excellent. Great color. I'm sure the quality and features run in the family. :-)
