Excellent camera for it's price and size!

This was my first camera I've owned and I wanted one to take pictures of my friends at school as well as scenery. Due to the camera's compact size I can carry with me everywhere I go. It has many options but I usually keep it on auto and I get great results. The main standout point for me was the HP Adaptive Light Tech. feature. It is made to bring faces out of shadows and details out of backgrounds which makes the picture look 100 times better. I put one of my images of Lake Dixon in the customer images section if you want to see just how good these pictures turn out. If your thinking of buying a camera at a reasonable price, one you can take anywhere, and still take great pictures, this is the camera for you! I love it!

Excelent pictures but small LCD display

I bought this camera more than three years ago and have been using it ever since. I'm not the kind of person that takes pictures all the time, but enjoy taking pictures during trips and family/friends reunions. What decided me to buy the R607 were its low price (very cheap in comparison with similar cameras at the time) and my previous experience with HP products (I own a HP desktop, a HP laptop, a HP PDA...).

Regarding to this camera, it takes excellent pictures. I love the panorama function for taking landscape photos. 4MP is more than enough for a non-professional photographer. It has a lot of functions that I didn't use too often, but many could find useful. It can fit a cheap, very compatible SD memory card to improve its capacity.

Nevertheless, it has some downsides. First of all, the LCD display is quite small. You can get used to it, but since newer cameras come with larger displays, you can be tempted to go that way instead. The software has given me some headaches lately, but I suspect I could fix the bugs reinstalling it from the beginning. And the battery endurance has started to show some shortfall, but I think its normal after 3+ years of continued use.

Overall I'm very satisfied with the camera's performance. Now its time for me to buy a new one, and I'll stick to HP for that.

Disappointing software and support

We got this camera as a gift. We have gone round and round with HP tech support and still have not managed to install the camera software into our computer. (We own other brands of digital cameras, all installed without a hitch.)

First of all, the HP software is 170 Mega-bytes large. Talk about bloat-ware! Why does it take such a huge program to manage a camera?

Secondly, HP knows about the software problem. A "fix" is posted on HP.com. After downloading all 170MB of it, it still failed to install. We contacted HP tech support through chat sessions, their suggestions all failed. HP send us an upgraded CD, it still halts on an error during install.

Lest you think we have a weird, off-brand computer, this is an HP Pavilion ZE4125 laptop.

It has been a thoroughly frustrating and disappointing experience.

I made a huge mistake when I bought this camera

I had a Pentax Optio 4 MP camera that I LOVED. Unfortunately I was careless and dropped it in water. In searching for a replacement, I saw that this camera was considered to be just as good and it was considerably cheaper. I figured since I was going to be careless with my camerea maybe I should buy the cheaper one, especially if it was supposed to be as good. What a MISTAKE. First off, this camera is a little bit bigger both in depth and width than the Optio. It just doesn't have the same sleekness. Secondly, the picture quality is definitely not as good. Every other picture I take is out of focus. I just want a simple point and shoot camera, one that can focus without having to mess with things...this isn't doing the trick. Now its been doing this weird thing where every picture I take has lines running through it (looks almost like the picture is ribbed). Its VERY annoying. I have such buyers remorse. I really wish I hadn't have tried to save money and had just bought the Optio. There's nothing positive I can say about this camera.

Would be okay for someone's first, only out of ignorance.

I've had this camera for almost two years, despite what others have said I've found it a somewhat tough camera physically.

Ok now to the long list of problems;

It has horrible motion capture, pictures often come out with a mild funhouse mirror warp effect, is utterly worthless in less than direct-sunlight and finally its far far to reliant on its flash. Also having to reset everything everytime you turn it on is a major annoyance. I've taken many pictures with it on many trips reaffirming its faults and still, If not for being a receipt-less present I would have returned it long ago.

Questions & Answers
Question : Which brand of laptop would you get, gateway or hewlett-packard?
I am using it for college, surfing net, digital camera stuff, listening to music, etc. Which brand has the least problems overall? My two choices of laptops are between a Hewlett-Packard AMB Turion 64 mobile technology ML-37 model DV5224NR or a Gateway Platinum Edition Notebook with AMD Turion™ 64 Mobile Technology ML-37 Model: MX6455

Answer:
I have always found Toshiba to be a good value and highly reliable.

Question : I'm looking for an instruction manuel for a hewlett packard camera. model 618?
have no instruction manuel for a model 618 hp digital camera. I'd like to find the web site where I could order one, the flash is not working. Not having the manuel, I can't find in the menu where the flash might be turned off.

Answer:
good luck. they never made an instruction manual so you'll be looking a long time. HP began outsourcing their camera manual writing at the time the 618 was produced. The first manual was written in Hindi and Farsi but not in English (I assume you're an English speaker? ) By the time HP rectified the problem using their Farsi translation software the camera was already obsolete and defective. There has been a class action lawsuit filed in Hosuton Superior Court over this issue and the Judge is considering placing a moratorium and injunction on future HP products

Question : Hewlett Packard Photosmart Mz67 is it a good camera??
i'm looking for a camera to take quality pictures and motion pictures such as horses jumping. is it s good camera to bring amazing quality? if not what is? i was thinking of the Canon PowerShot SX100. how do i turn off the digital zoom on both of the cameras? because i have both camera at my hands to buy. all i want to know is which one has the better picture quaility and best quaility of motion pictures such as horses jumping. i think the Canon PowerShot SX100 sucks at flash pictures, but i can always return it for another one if i don't like it :) so how do i turn the digital zoom off and which one's better

Answer:
SX100 IS is better because it has Av, Tv and M mode. Tv mode will be useful for sport photography. All point and shoot digital cameras have some shutter lag. When you try to shoot the horse jumping, pre-focus (half press the shutter button) on something which the horse is going to jump over first. Press the shutter button all the way when you the horse jumps. You may need to practice a couple of times to get the right timing.

Question : Digital Camera?
I went to wal-mart last night and they had a Hewlett packard 5 megapixel camera and printer for $90. Is this a good deal or are HP's cheaper for a reason?

Answer:
Hi Kristen, HP Digital Cameras aren't that good. Get a Polararaid,or Canyon, or Nikon, or Sony. HP's aren't good.

Please no mean comments. We are just wondering. Except mine is a navy color but that doesn't mater

Answer:
Your camera has better specs, because it has optical image stabilization. However, the specs are so close that any differences are more likely due to the photographer and not the camera. If I were to pick one for myself, I'd take yours. :-)

Question : my digital camera stopped working!?
Its a hp Hewlett Packard photosmart digital camera with 2x digital zoom.I put brand new batteries in it and even a new memory card. What can i do to fix it? I need Help! QUICK!

Answer:
Check that the batteries are inserted correctly. If it's under warranty, send it in for servicing. If it's not, try removing the batteries and leaving them out for a day or two. If it still doesn't work, toss it. Unfortunately, your cheapie HP won't be worth the cost to fix it, just replace it!

Question : How to import photo's from HP E427 camera to iPhoto on Mac?
Right, here's the problem, I have a Hewlett Packard E427 digital camera. I have no Hewlett Packard software. I'm trying to import photo's from the camera to iPhoto on my macbook. When I connect the camera to the macbook using USB, iPhoto opens automatically but doesn't give me an (obvious) option to import the photo's. According to Hewlett Packard, you do not have to use their software to import photo's. What am I doing wrong? It's driving me crazy! Thanks.

Answer:
Here a few problems I see: 1) Do you have the lastest update of iPhoto 2) Go do the side of your iPhoto and look for HPE427 3) If that doesnt show up, try it out on a friends Mac or Windows 4) If all fails get a SD card reader, their like $20 so it snot that big of a deal.

need information about hewlett packard digital cameras. Are they any good . I want to spend about $150?

Answer:
For the same price you should be able to find a Canon or Olympus, either of which would probably be better, I am a photo lab manager, and have not been impressed with HP cameras.

Question : Is the Hewlett Packard Photosmart M437 Digital Camera, 5.0MP a good camera?
Tell me some of the 'great' features of this camera. Like if you can make your pics black and white on the camera, and if it has options like that.

Answer:
Yes , but I prefer the PCWOrld magazine "best buy" ( price x technologie x megapixels ), the HP Photosmart R927 ,8.2 megapixels ( $260.00 ) and HP Photosmart R967 , 10 megapixels. ( $280.00). The Photosmart M437 is good but the difference bettween cameras are just $50 ( if your choice is Deluxe acessories kit ), or basic kit ( $140.00) . The M437 has a range of shooting modes that provide predefined settings for everyday situations. They are optimized for particular types of scenes or shooting situations and include Beach and Snow, -Landscape, Night portrait, and more. -Record Video and Print Video stills. -Built-in and Expandable Memory. -In-camera Editing Features. The other cameras features: -3.0" LCD Display. -Take Creative Control -The Photosmart R927 Digital Camera has a complete range of exposure and scene options, including manual exposure, so you"ll be able to get exactly the image you want. -HP Adaptive Lighting This ground-breaking technology automatically adjusts high contrast photos to reveal the detail that would otherwise be lost in the shadows - ideal when you're shooting into the sun or using flash. HP In-camera Red-eye Removal Remove red-eye without having to transfer photos to your computer. This unique, easy-to-use tool automatically recognizes red-eye and lets you remove it immediately via your camera's LCD screen. HP In-camera Panorama Stitching Your camera stitches up to 5 photos together to create a single photo for easy printing. And I like HP support. good luck
