Poor Reliability
I had this camera for less than 2 years and used it only on rare occasions - you know, holidays and special events - so it has pretty low usage. Yet it has decided not to work. It turns on foe a second or two (with brand new batteries) then shuts itself off. Rearranging batteries and resetting factory default settings no help. Had similar reliability problems with another fujifilm camera. Fool me once shame on you, twice shame on me! Goodbye Fujifilm - forever!

Good little camera - some pros and cons
Our office purchased this camera a couple of years ago. I am the primary user of the camera. (This model provided the balance between features and price at the time it was purchased.) This is a good little camera, adequate for general use, with one or two sticking points to be aware of.
This camera has difficulties in low-light -- even ordinary room lighting -- without a flash. (In fairness, this disfeature is a fairly common occurrence in many cameras of this caliber and price range, though, as is the JPEG artifacts one gets in the images.) Using the flash will help with out-of-focus photos but go through batteries faster, the resulting photographs are usually less pleasing too -- people harshly lit with drastic shadows. (This can sometimes be minimized with thought and care.)
If you are not afraid to use the manual settings, brace the camera against something, or use a tripod, it is often the way to go. Some great shots can be had, even in room light, with manual settings, a tripod or steady hand, and a steady subject. In fact, using manual will often produce a better photo, with more natural color, than can be achieved with the automatic settings usually! Well worth learning.
The use of standard AA size batteries is a plus. I thought that the use of four AA batteries (rather than two) might mean longer life. I was incorrect. Be prepared with extra batteries and/or a good quick charger, especially when flash or zoom is used.
The biggest annoyance with this camera for me personally, though, is the fact that every time the batteries die, or are changed, the date must be reset before the camera will allow any photographs to be taken. (I don't even bother setting the date any longer. I just hit two or three buttons to skip past it all, but it's required every time the batteries die or are changed.) I've often wished the camera contained a capacitor or watch battery to maintain its memory while batteries were changed. (I believe newer Fugi models may have resolved this issue though; Fugi has some newer models with nice improvements and optical zooms up to 10x, in similarly price models.)
In the end, I would not discourage anyone from buying this model. The photo quality is on par with any of the rival models, just be aware of this model's quirks. Generally speaking, Fugi seems to make a fine camera. I just wish we had held off for another year and the newer models.

Clunky, but nice pictures
Ok, bought this camera about 5 years ago. It still is alive through all the beatings we have given it. It takes nice clear pictures, but because there is a long delay in the shutter speed (FPS), we've lost some nice moments. for example, try getting a toddler to pose and smile--but by the time the image was captured in the camera, the kid is now in the next room. this requires patience!

My Finepix just died too
The same as the above posters, our camera just died...I think fujifilm should recall this camera due to it just stopping to work. What now a $300 paperweight? Was an excellent when working.
Rating :
For the price its a good camera if you plan on shooting outdoors.
I was given this camera about 3 years ago when I wanted a step up from my old (really old) 0.5mp camera. Let me jump right into the pros and cons and I'll try to explain a little about them afterwards.
PROS: Feels good in your hands and not very heavy. Plenty of manual features to get lost in. Large enough LCD screen to see what you need before and after the shot. Buttons placed for easy reach. Cost. Good battery life.
CONS: Very, very bad low light images. No manual focus option. Even at 3.2 mega pixels the shots are still grainy. Red reduction often ADDS red eye. No interchangeable lenses. Limited video sizes and bad audio. Very slow shutter lag.
After a few years of owning this camera I really want to replace it. About 2/3 of my shots are taken indoors and this camera is useless inside unless the room is lit like a Hollywood set. The camera will not focus at any distance in normal indoor lighting. On the auto setting, inside shots always come out grainy. The flash is simply to weak to help. Since there is no way to manually focus the pictures you are constantly crossing your fingers hoping that the shot will come out somewhat decent so you can later fix the image on the computer.
The software that came with the camera does not have a red eye option to fix the red eye this camera is famous for giving your subjects. When you try to use the red eye reduction flash it always and I repeat always gives your subject red eye and always makes it worse had you left it off.
There is what looks like a screw on lens on the camera (not shown in product image) so you think you will have the ability to add a different lens. It is actually there to hold a filter. Since this camera is not a popular model FujiFilm has not made any filters (maybe 2) for you to use so its really just misleading.
The video sizes are 160 x 120 and 320 x 240. Which are ok for thumb nails but not something you are really able to watch. Since the camera is grainy at low light (meaning anything shot indoors) and the flash is only for pictures, your videos will be small, grainy, out of focus, and do nothing but fill up your memory card. The audio for the video is also useless unless you have bionic ears and can make out the mummbles.
The shutter lag is awful. No matter what trick you try you will always miss an action shot. There is a Sport mode on the camera but I'm not sure what it does since it does not help with focus, shutter lag, lighting, etc.
On the good side, it's a cheap camera but you get what you pay for with it.
I'll keep using it until I can afford a better DSLR camera but you can bet once my new camera shows up this one will be given to my teenage son to abuse.

Excellent compact camera for the price
I bought this camera after extensive research to take with me on a three-month semester in Europe. My main criteria were: 1) low price, 2) good picture quality, 3) short startup and lag time between photos, 4) portability, and 5) good battery life. Over the course of the semester I managed to take a good 1600 pictures of people, landscapes, and artwork in all different settings, and frankly the image quality blew me (and my family) away with its sharpness and vivid color. Lag time was great, much better than otherwise comparable cameras I've used. Battery life was excellent, too; I managed to get through the whole semester only recharging about four or five times (though this was probably because I tried to avoid using flash as much as possible). Video is quite passable, with decent sound quality. Durability was impressive; I managed to drop it at least twice, once on marble, and it is still in perfect working order.
Drawbacks: image stabilization is digital and not, in my experience, particularly useful, so if you're in low light and don't want to use flash you will want a tripod or at least a solid object to steady it on - but that probably goes for most cameras anyway. The autofocus can have trouble in low light or when you're aiming at a hazy horizon for a landscape shot, but otherwise no problems there. The main thing that disappointed me was the lack of manually adjustable options under the "manual" setting: it allows you to control white balance and exposure, but that's about it (and even there you have to choose between presets).
Bottom line: if you're a pro then this is probably not the camera for you. However, if you're like me and want a portable, inexpensive camera that takes quick, sharp, semi-artistic pictures, then you will be happy with the Finepix A820.

i bought this camera in July and was immediately impressed. Now its 5 months later and it is starting to act up. The auto focus has become unpredictable and when you power up and down the camera is making a "mechanical" noise that is making me worried that one day it wont power up at all.
I really thought this would be my last camera for a while but it seems that I'm back to shopping again.

Nuclear power required
For the first 5-6 months, my 820 did fine with 2700mAh NiMH batteries. Suddenly, upon turn on, the empty battery icon flashes and it shuts down within 5 seconds. I am using the same batteries and even bought new ones. No deal. Sent it back to Fuji for repair. They sent it back with the same problem. It's a great camera otherwise. Lots of features and video w/sound. But now it just doesn't stay on long enough to use it. Alkalines will last only 8-10 minutes and less with flash. I'll try the repair route again. It might just be my camera's problem, but if you do buy it, don't get too emotionally attached.

Good Little Workhorse
This is my everyday 'backpack' camera, when I'm not carrying my slightly larger Fuji S700 or much larger S9000. It replaces my excellent A400 because of it's added features, such as the 4X zoom instead of 3X (not a big difference, but enough), as well as all the added scene position choices. I've done close-ups, portraits, night shots, landscapes and indoor scenes with and without flash, and I'm impressed. Enlargements are no problem for this camera, either. It's easy to carry just about anywhere. Learn to use the ISO settings and scene positions and even get a tiny tripod--the camera will amaze you.Fujifilm Finepix A820 8MP Digital Camera with 4x Optical Zoom

Great camera !
This is the seconde Finepix A-series camera we have purchased and they're great. Fantastic price and well built. Our first Fujifilm camera was an A600 and the A610 is even better. It has a larger LCD screen and takes multiple types of memory! Also, consider the fact that it uses standard AA batteries (I'd suggest the 'ion' type for longevity). Fantastic camera.

Fujifilm A610 Camera
This is a nice camera, but I chose it because the right-hand thumb location adds stability, which allowed for single hand usage. I would have liked the red-eye reduction and higher ISO ratings in the A810 model, but I would have lost the thumb rest to a function wheel, which would then require two hand usage. I have a handicapped user and single hand operation is required. It's funny that most modern cameras work to be sleek, but ignore getting a good grip on the unit. The pictures are good, but not as good in low lighting due to the lower ISO rating. Features are nice excluding those I've griped about. I would recommend the A810 model if you don't mind using two hands all the time. If you have kids, single hand operation is useful even for anyone. :)

Eh. So-so.
It takes GREAT pictures. But when the lens get dirty, the pictures show up with specks all over. And it normally has from 12-20 pictures you can store with the default memory card. It eats the batteries after about 10 pictures, with any batteries, I've tried almost all the brands. I recommend getting an A/C adapter.

a great first camera for adults or children
I bought this camera because I like Fuji. Their cameras have good color. This is about their first digital so it's really a bargain today. The pictures are good. The lens gets covered up when the camera is turned off. It takes two AA batteries so that's good. The Smartmedia are also cheap enough.
The camera is quick because it has a fixed focus so you just turn it on and shoot. Its small enough to fit in a large pocket. I highly recommend this camera as a first camera or a camera to just keep in the tool box or purse or backpack and not have to worry about. It's also a good camera for a child since it was good quality in its day it's still good now at a bargain price. If you need more resolution opt for the A201.

Ok Camera.
The camera is ok. But not that good. It takes good pictures some of the time, but alot of the time you have to go back and take pictures over because the quality isnt what you would expect. Not enough zoom. Eats up batteries like you wouldnt believe!! I would suggest adding a little bit of money and getting a better camera. Fujifilm is not the best brand to go with. I have this camera and are currently trying to sell it. The very thin 5MP sony cybershot camera is what I am aiming to buy. It's has amazing quality pictures, but it is not cheap. It is by far better than the Fujifilm!!

$100 Very Well Spent
I LOVE this camera! I have owned it for almost 2 years now and use it all the time. Last Christmas I thought I wanted to upgrade so I bought a 3 megapixel Kodak camera and ended up returning it because it wasn't as good as my 1.3 megapixel Fuji. This camera takes wonderful macro pictures which is essential if you sell online, the Kodak took lousy macro pictures. The Kodak also did this weird double flash thing so when I tried to take pictures of my cats I always got them with their eyes closed. I have no trouble at all with my Fuji. One flash and you've got the picture. I tell you, If I ever did decide to upgrade it would definitely be a Fuji.
The pictures from this camera are fabulous! I use it for e-mail pictures, prints, and online auction pictures. It's great for all of those. When I got my camera I had in mind to mostly use it for auction pictures but it turned out to be even more useful than that. I take tons of pictures of friends, family, and my pets. Then I e-mail pictures to those friends and family. I also make prints (sometimes through an online / store service sometimes at home with the printer) for scrapbboking and they very good. I will admit that if you look really close they aren't as good as prints from a film camera, but I find the convenience of the digital worth it.
All in all, if you only have about $100 to spend on a digital camera I HIGHLY reccomend this one!!!

Still a good camera...
I've had this camera for a couple years now, and I'm still quite pleased with it. At it's prime, it was one of the smallest cameras around. However, that size does come with a price. IE, lack of features. There is no zoom(only 2x digital, and can only be used in VGA mode) fixed focus, and very few manual settings. However, the camera still is quite good.
Pictures are pretty good. If you have ample light, they are wonderful. If it's dim, you get yellowish colors. This can usally be somewhat corrected with software. The one major problem i've had with mine is the selector swith is giving out. Many times as I'm composing a shot, it'll flip back to preview mode. People might also have problems finding cards now of days, as it uses Smart Media cards(NOT Smart Digital) All in all, a great point and shoot camera. Great if you don't have time to fiddle with focusing and such...

So Many Problems!
My son got this camera last December (2006). It has been nothing but trouble right out of the box. We put batteries in and from the first time we turned it on, it would not function properly. I contacted Fuji and sent the defective camera back to them for re-working. I figured that was okay, as any camera can be defective, and surely once it is repaired or replaced, it will be fine. (BTW, I had to pay to send it to Fuji, even though it was under warranty.) I received the repaired camera in about a month, and it seemed to work! I was happy to try it out. I took exactly three pictures before the old problems started. I don't know what was wrong with the camera, but the viewfinder was either completely dark, or streaked with white lines. I thought it was just a viewfinder problem, so I continued to take pictures just to see what I would get. The pictures came out just as they appeared on the viewfinder: either completely dark or streaked with white! I wish I could insert a picture in this review to illustrate the problem. So, here I go again. I will have to contact Fuji and see what they can do.

underdog of cameras
i'm pretty sure this camera isn't given enough chance and most people believe you need something super fancy to take better than good pictures and it really isn't the case. i did experience a lot of the same "frustrations" that others were complaining about and i'm not sure if its my semi-knowledge of camera use and photography that helped me smooth out the frustrations or the simple fact the camera truly holds a potential you sort of have to tinker with for awhile before its discovered. its a great little point n' shoot-esque camera that's done everything my regular slr's and digital slr's have done without a lot of the pains of technology (or old technology). i'm not a fan of the slow shutter speed when it comes to action shots and things of that nature but its macro does wonders and well practically so does everything else and after all the getting used to, its worked its way into my daily routines.

Questions & Answers
Question : Can I fix my Fuji Finepix digital camera?
I was wondering if anyone knows if it is possible to fix a zoom problem with my Fuji Finepix A345. I've never even dropped it or gotten it wet but for some reason there is a problem with the lense. Often when I turn it on the lense won't come out all the way like it is stuck and makes noises. Then sometimes when it does come out it is blurry and when I try zooming it or focusing it it won't work.
Answer:
I'm sure you didn't do anything to it, but unfortunately, I doubt there is anything you can do to it to make it NOT have the error with the lens. It sounds like your lens will need to be replaced.....but there is always a possibility it may be jammed. However, in the camera repair shop I work in, this kind of problem is almost ALWAYS because the lens needs to be replaced. If it's still under warranty and you haven't dropped it or anything like that, I would send it in to Fuji directly. If it's out of the warranty, you'd be better off replacing it since repairs are around the cost of this camera when it was new. Hope that helps.

Question : Is Fuji a decent brand of digital camera? ?
I' m interested in purchasing a new digital camera..Fuji seems to offer more bang for the buck! ( higher mp and optical zoom) Does anyone have personal experience with the fuji brand. What brand would you suggest in buying a digital camera, if not Fuji. I have a Canon and really like it, but they seem much pricier.
Answer:
Yeah Fuji makes good cameras. I have one.
Basically, Fuji, Canon, Nikon, Sony, Panasonic - they all make good cameras.

Question : Where can I find a case for the Fuji S700 digital camera?
I don't want anything like a camcorder case, if you know what I mean. I only want a case for the camera, no extra storage or something fancy like that...
Answer:
Well, at this point, Fuji doesn't make a camera only case for the S700, so it's unlikely you'll find one. The best you might be able to do is use an existing case for another camera that fit's it closely enough.
Alternatively other companies do offer holster bags made to fit just the camera and at most an additional flat pocket for memory cards, lens cleaning cloth, etc. I'd look at bags from Lowe Pro or Tamrac.

Question : zoom error on fuji digital camera, how much would it cost to fix it?
It is a fuji finepix f650. Would it be worth sending the camera to the factory to fix or buy a new one? I've only had the camera for 7 months but I did not keep the receipt and the box.
Answer:
If it's a zoom error that requires you to replace the lens on the camera, the parts and labor could run as high as the $200-250 range, but the only way to figure out exactly how much it would cost would be contact Fuji. Try calling their factory service center; they'll be able to tell you if it's something that's under warranty or if you'll have to pay for the repairs yourself, and should be able to give you a ballpark figure for the cost to you.

Question : extra zoom lenses for the Fuji finepix s700 digital camera.?
I was wondering what kind of extra zoom lenses can be purchased for the Fuji s700 digital camera. If I can buy extra lenses, where would I find them. I am from Canada. I will mostly use this camera at a race track 80% of the time it will be night.

It has a 10X optical zoom. Fuji doesn't offer any "front lens" add-ons. There may be some "after market" ones offered but they would probably be a waste of money.

Question : fuji digital camera reverts back to japanese?
Fuji F10 camera purchased in Japan, has started corrupting files making precious photos unreadable on a computer but they can be viewed on the camera. Re-formatting the XD memory card is the only answer to making it usable again. Another issue is that the camera settings revert back to original Japanese and the date resets back to 2005 at random. Fuji tech support did not recognise the fault and their only recomendation was to return camera for service but this investigation would cost more than a new camera. Anyone else experienced similar problems?
the camera is not designed exclusively for the Japanese market. It is identical to the F10 available in Britain.
Answer:
FUJI cameras often have Firmware Updates, which you should try prior to return it to FUJI for servicing!
Here's the link for your model.
Help that solves your problems ;-)

Question : Anyone know of a great Olympus or Fuji point-and-shoot digital camera?
I'm looking for details here... I have lots of xD memory and my camera has gone belly up... anyone have feedback on current Olympus or Fuji digital cameras?
Answer:
Between those two brands...sorry, but Olympus is a brand I would never consider (due to it's so-so photo quality).
The Fujifilm Finepix F30, however, is a compact point & shoot camera that performs extremely well in low light (high ISO, handheld, no flash). No other compact can compete with it in this area. I would buy it for that capability alone.
So, if you want a compact camera particularly for low light situations, then it's the one to get. It also has great battery life of up to 580 shots.
The newer, F31 fd, is a minor update but hasn't been reviewed as yet.
But, if you ever decide to invest in SD memory, then have a look at Canon ;-)
