The Fujifilm FinePix 6800 is a high-end digital camera that continues in the tradition of the FinePix 4700. Sporting a new body designed by Porsche, the 6800 is an eye-catching number. The 3.3-megapixel SuperCCD captures images at resolution of 6 megapixels (2,832 x 2,128). The 6-megapixel image is interpolated up from the original 3.3-megapixel CCD image data. Fujifilm's proprietary SuperCCD design uses octagonal pixels, as opposed to the normal square, providing more image data than conventional designs. In other words, an octagonal pixel is worth more than a square one. The lens is a quality Fujinon 3x optical zoom. An assortment of shooting modes, including portrait, scene, auto, and manual, all help to make the 6800 a versatile photo tool. The FinePix is also capable of recording up to 160 seconds of 320 x 240 video at 10 frames per second. Also, a continuous-shooting mode lets you snap up to five frames per second with a maximum of five photos before you need to let the camera record the image data. Additionally, depending on your memory card size, you can record from 30 to 60 minutes of audio. The FinePix 6800 comes with a USB docking cradle that remains connected to your computer--similar to a USB card reader. The cradle allows you to easily transfer your images and recharge your battery. The 6800 also comes with a rechargeable lithium-ion battery, 16 MB SmartMedia card, USB cable, video cable, hand strap, and assorted software.
Customer Review :
Great Camera for it's time ...
I owned a Fuji 6800 for 5 years and used it a LOT. When I purchased this camera in 2001, it was something of a curiosity, with it's unusual shape and control layout. But I needed something small and light for my work as a technical writer (photo illustrated user and tech manuals) and I'd had good luck with Fuji in the past, so I gave this camera a try, despite what was at the time a nearly $1,000 price tag.
6800 Experience
With a 3.3 mp sensor, I knew this camera was never going to take the sort of images I was used to with my film SLR cameras. But, for the type of work I was doing at the time, this level of resolution was more than adequate. In good lighting, the images from this camera could easily be printed at 8x10 with no difficulty. In low light, this camera delivered somewhat grainy results (max 400 iso), but given the fact that I was usually working in either well lit or "use flash" situations, my customers were always impressed with the images from this camera. As advertised, this camera offered a 6.0mp shooting mode, taking advantage of the octagonal design of the sensor elements, but frankly, I found the 3.3 mp mode images to be of higher quality. The zoom range on this little camera was fairly limited, but again, for the type of work I was doing, it was satisfactory. VOICE - I loved the fact that this camera offered a voice recording mode, so I could not only use this device to take pictures, but I could also record up to 2+ hours of voice notes on just a 64mb card.
CONS -
No Manual Mode - this camera doesn't offer any manual mode options. If you need manual mode, look at the 6800's sister camera, the Fujifilm FinePix F601 3MP (SCCD) Digital Camera w/ 3x Optical Zoom. I purchased the 601 for about $100 a few months ago (when the sensor on my 6800 finally died after 5 years of heavy use) and it's GREAT. It's a superior successor to the 6800 in just about every way. And it comes with manual mode for exposure and white balance. VERY nice. See my review of the 601.
Image Quality - the image quality on these cameras is pretty good, but not great. For illustrating
ISO Limit - This camera only offers up to iso400, so if you do a lot of low light shooting, look at the 601 with it's iso1600 limit
NOTE - IF YOU'RE LOOOKING AT THIS CAMERA (6800 or 601) IN 2007 ... the memory cards for this sort of camera are VERY hard to find these days. I had a friend look for them on E-bay for me (for my new 601) and in any seriously large size, the memory cards cost more than the camera itself.
3x Optical Zoom - Given the fact that I know own a 12x optical zoom Panasonic with image stabilization, the unstablized 3x zoom on the Fuji seems very restrictive. But, for close up work (such as I do for my manuals), it works fine.
601 Experience
See my review of the 601 for a detailed discussion of it's performance and features.
These are great little cameras, I never had any trouble with them (I don't consider death after 5 years of heavy use a real issue) and I can heartily recommend them, given the caveats above.

Multi Talented Mr. Fuji 6800
I have been using the 6800 for about two years now and never seem to have a problem with it yet. Unless you concider the flash fall off in dark places ( Just bump up the flash or ISO ). Somtimes I just want to record my lectures in class so I use it as a recorder. I also use it as a instant web cam at home so I could wave hello to my neice. The battery life last as long as 80 shots!! Now its selling for allot less for what it is worth. The 601 is a little smaller yet the the lense is not as clear. Try it for yourself.

This camera sucks!
The biggest problem of this camera, the lens won't come out reliably. You may have to try on/off couple times. My wife always joke this camera, it need Viagra. When you need it to work, it won't erect.
Rating :
good for small number of pictures, not good for video
this thing can take about 80 pictures on 1 card (that are thin and are hard to find now) right when you are at a concert or something and taking tons of pictures, it runs out of memory.it also records really bad quality videos, and the sound recorder isn't the best.

Questions & Answers
Question : what kind of cord do i need for downloading pictures from a Fuji A500 digital camera to my computer.?
i have looked on line and called future shop - who say there are too many different types of cords to carry them.
Answer:
If you look off to the right of this page, it says "What's in the box." There is lists a USB Cable (mini-B).
http://www.fujifilmusa.com/JSP/fuji/epartners/digitalA500Specs.jsp?dbid=842411&item=I842411&subitem= SIDataSpecSheets842411&urltype=dataspec&NavBarId=SIDataSpecSheets842411
It looks like you'll have to call them up to order one.
ON SECOND THOUGHT:
I typed in USB (mini-B) at Yahoo Shopping and got tons of hits. It appears Mini B is an industry standard and not just a Fuji product. You can most probably buy any of those cords. Fuji is sort of high priced for their accessories.

Question : Fuji Digital Camera Not Working and can't afford to fix it?
Something happened to my Fuji A400 FinePix camera where the lens wont retract and it says "Focus Error" - a shop wants $150 to repair, almost as much as the camera is worth. I cant afford to fix it or buy a new one. I've lost my receipt to service it under warranty and it cant be located via Best Buy. Can a Focus Error be fixed? Any advice?
Answer:
I would contact Fuji service. They should fix it for free, or very cheaply. If you provide the serial number, they will know if it's under warranty probably.
You can buy good new cameras for under $150 so repairing an old camera is probably a bad choice.
A possibility is to see if Fuji has an updated BIOS for the camera. If so, download and install it, that might fix the problem.

Question : fuji digital camera reverts back to japanese?
Fuji F10 camera purchased in Japan, has started corrupting files making precious photos unreadable on a computer but they can be viewed on the camera. Re-formatting the XD memory card is the only answer to making it usable again. Another issue is that the camera settings revert back to original Japanese and the date resets back to 2005 at random. Fuji tech support did not recognise the fault and their only recomendation was to return camera for service but this investigation would cost more than a new camera. Anyone else experienced similar problems?
the camera is not designed exclusively for the Japanese market. It is identical to the F10 available in Britain.
Answer:
FUJI cameras often have Firmware Updates, which you should try prior to return it to FUJI for servicing!
Here's the link for your model.
Help that solves your problems ;-)

Question : extra zoom lenses for the Fuji finepix s700 digital camera.?
I was wondering what kind of extra zoom lenses can be purchased for the Fuji s700 digital camera. If I can buy extra lenses, where would I find them. I am from Canada. I will mostly use this camera at a race track 80% of the time it will be night.
Answer:
It has a 10X optical zoom. Fuji doesn't offer any "front lens" add-ons. There may be some "after market" ones offered but they would probably be a waste of money.

Question : Do you know what kinda battery the Fuji Z10 digital camera uses?
i am interested in purchasing the Fujifilm FinePix Z10fd 7.2-Megapixel Digital Camera-pink. Is anybody aware of what sort of battery it uses?? And is it a good camera? Any problems?
Answer:
NP-45
The sites that I found talked about how the battery didn't last long too.

Question : Fuji digital camera is very cheap. Do I have any reasons not to buy it?
I just compared it with other brand with the same spec. Fuji is about 40-50% cheaper than other popular brands. Is it worse than others?
Answer:
They actualyl pretty good, Fujifilm camera to digital kinda late compare to other, but fujifilm was like the king in film camera. Fujifilm Digital camera has some of the very best camera sensor and great design. However it lack some friendly mode scene as other offer, but fuji does take very nice picture.

Question : Just bought a 2nd hand Fuji Finepix digital camera. What does Frame Numbering (Continuous, Renew) mean?
All I got was the camera, no manual with it or anything, but one of the shooting options is called Frame Numbering and you can choose from Continuous or Renew. Does anyone know what this means?

Question : Where can I find a case for the Fuji S700 digital camera?
I don't want anything like a camcorder case, if you know what I mean. I only want a case for the camera, no extra storage or something fancy like that...
Answer:
Well, at this point, Fuji doesn't make a camera only case for the S700, so it's unlikely you'll find one. The best you might be able to do is use an existing case for another camera that fit's it closely enough.
Alternatively other companies do offer holster bags made to fit just the camera and at most an additional flat pocket for memory cards, lens cleaning cloth, etc. I'd look at bags from Lowe Pro or Tamrac.
HTH.

Question : Can you use a regular memory chip with a fuji camera?
So im gonna buy a Fuji digital camera,
and I already have a SanDisk memory chip.
Are they compatable with Fuji's?
Answer:
Most Fuji digital cameras use XD memory cards. However, some of them, Fuji FinePix S700 is one example, uses both XD and SD memory cards. So it really depends on the Fuji camera you are getting which card or cards you would need.
ps ... San Disk is a memory card company who makes SD, XD, and Memory Stick cards
