love the casio
i'm a videographer/tv producer and shoot stuff with a sony v1u and also carry around a smaller format camera for picking up shots and random video. i formerly used a svp camera, which still works great, but only offers 4:3 images.
i did a lot of research and settled on the black exilim. it shoots great video in any kind of light and sound. i don't leave home without it.

Good basic camera
Pros: The camera as such is good and you will find it useful to take portrait pictures. The battery life is great, handles OK in low light. Has a lot of best shot modes which is what most people need.
Cons: I am an amateur photographer and was looking for a pocket camera that I can carry with me all the time. This is not the camera you should buy if you like taking pictures of nature especially long distance shots. The camera's aperture for some reason is tied to the zoom. It take all pictures with F2.8 by default unless you zoom in. Even when zoomed in all the way, the aperture doesn't go beyond F5.3 which is not very good in taking pictures of even a garden or a soccer game for example. Basically F2.8 means if theres a subject in focus only a narrow area before and after the subject will be in focus which means you will have poorly taken pictures.
I am not sure if I should recommend this camera. The tech support wasn't very helpful either.

EX-Z80 digital camera features a very compact, tightly formed design which offers the functionality needed to easily take photos and shoot movies, yet also offers a design feel conducive to carrying it around almost like a fashion accessory. With this model, Casio has sought to create both functionality and design that are "easier" and "more fun."
Customer Review :
Very nice little camera!
Bought one for my son so he'd stop borrowing my "professional" camera. Then I bought one for me because he was taking better pictures and video than I was!
Has all the features I was looking for, but I particularly like the instant video record button so I don't have to fumble around trying to switch modes when I want to shoot video. A 4gb SD card aparently holds 2.2 hours of video, so on my next family vacation I won't even need to take along a camcorder.

I had to return the camera to the seller because the lens was damaged.
I have since received a replacement and it is okay.

...the best digital point-and-shoot I ever had.
I owned several cameras, film and digital, and this is by far the best digital point-and-shoot I ever had. I have to admit that it took me a long time to decide on buying a Casio as opposed to Cannon, Nikon, or Pentax, as I had very good experience with those. However my wife was supposed to be the main user of this new camera, so when she saw it in a store, she was sold on it, as the camera is very small and very good looking. She loved the green one (which is is actually a greenish yellow) so we paid $10 more than the black one and got it. To me it took a lot more to be convinced, so here is my point of view on it: Pros: - Very good quality of the pictures (the auto focus works great and the multi point metering system takes care nicely of most situations, including some more difficult shots (like high contrast, back lit subjects, moving subjects, etc) - I love that you can easily switch between standard format (1.33 ratio), film format (3:2 ratio), or wide screen (16:9 format). - Metal body, makes the camera fill solid and you can have a good grip and stability. - Easy to switch between different menus like changing formats, flash modes, ISO sensitivity, different self timer settings, shooting modes (like single, continuous, etc), auto shutter, and face recognition modes. - Although I consider face recognition a gimmick and I never use it in real life, I did try it and surprisingly works very well! Not only the camera will find and focus on the face, but you can set also the Auto-Shutter to take the picture only when the subject smiles. There is even more: you can record several faces in the camera's internal memory, and when those people are in a larger group, the camera will find their faces and focus on them, so they come out the best! I tried the freakish feature and it works!!! Also, it has other many Auto-Shooting features, that some people might want, I tried them, they work but, I don't normally need most of them. - The movie recording quality is very good. I set it to wide screen and the highest quality and it is exceptionally good, I say at least like a DVD (also it does record sound very well, with no significant camera's own noise). - It has its own movie recording button, so you do not need to go though any settings in order to start filming. You push the trigger on top, you take pictures, or if you push the trigger on the back side, you are filming (push again to stop). It can not get any simpler or faster. - If you don't like to mingle with settings, you may find the "Best Shot" setting very simple and useful. You click the "BS" button (funny name... ;-), and you get a bunch of sample photos. Use the left-right-up-down buttons to navigate to the picture that is similar to what you are shooting, push OK, and the camera sets itself up for that type of picture (like flowers, portrait, self portrait, sports, night scenes etc, etc). - I love the burst shooting mode (aka CS - Continuous Shooting), which has several settings: CS - shoots pictures at the quality you set as fast as possible; CS-FAST shoots lower resolution pictures and saves them to the internal memory. I got about 4 to 5 pictures per second in this mode, and the quality is good enough to print 5x7" pictures. This is a life saver when your kid shakes hands with the principal of the school, when they make a karate jump, or when they throw that ball. Normally you push the trigger and hope the camera takes the picture at the right time. With this, you push the trigger a little earlier, hold it until the kid is through, and before you know it you have a series of pictures taken at short intervals of each other, so your chances are a lot better to find one that shows what you want to see. - Used with a 4GB SDHC memory card, my wife took literary hundreds of pictures and filmed many minutes of movie during a recent trip before she had to transfer them to the computer. She did that only several times during the 3 weeks trip. - Also, one charge of the battery lasted for several days. In fact she did not charge it until, into the four or fifth day of the trip, the low battery message came on. Negatives: None so important to give anything lower than a five star rating. - I would have liked a "shorter" focal length on the close end, so that you can have a wider view as sometimes there is not enough room to get away from larger groups of people. However most of the cameras have this focal lengths, so this is just a wish with small point and shoot cameras. All being said, I love this little camera.

Casio's EXILIM series was born with the appearance in 2002 of a "wearable card camera" - a digital camera with a very slim form. The new EXILIM Card EX-S10 maintains all of the powerful functionality of the cameras that were later developed in that line (high pixel count, zoom functionality, LCD monitor, photo functions, etc.) but it also embodies a return to a stylish thin form and a strong design presence.
Customer Review :
3 DOA.... (Updated)
I'm not sure what the deal is, it's all very fishy.
But I bought 2, and both were DOA. The first one was clearly used, and had to go back. It wouldn't save pictures to the internal memory.
The second one is new, but literally DOA. I charged the battery up, put it in the camera. It let me set up my time/date/etc. Then once it started to 'boot up', and the zoom extended? The camera crashed and would not power on at all after that. The lense clicks twice and it turns off. No good. It even had dead pixels!
I'm very frustrated. How bad can quality control be that I can get two DOA's in one night? It's bad enough that it's a 35 minute drive to the Best Buy. So ridiculous....
--- Update:
It took me 3 tries to get this model camera from Best Buy without it being DOA. 3 DOA's.... How does that happen? Well, 4th was the charm.
Once I got one that worked, I was happy. Great pictures, great color, amazing clarity, the size... I like the plum color, too.
Now, a month later, I'm miserable. The once clear pictures are nothing but blurry, over exposed, and full of glare. Everything is washed out and blurry.
This model camera has serious defects. Serious, serious defects. Do not buy. Every picture looks like it was washed with bleach, and smeared around in photoshop. It doesn't get much worse.

I was going to buy the Flip camera or the Sanyo Xacti 700HD. But I found this camera which is in between price wise. It takes great pictures and if you put the video mode on the highest settings, it also takes pretty good videos. And the size and thiness makes this camera as easy to carry around as the Flip. The only complaint I can think of is that they could have included a nice video editing software that would allow you to paste clips together. Sound quality is way better than I expected. Picture/still quality is excellent, and the video is Youtube friendly and the quality is above average for a still camera. I bought mine at Sam's Club which was a mistake because Amazon had it for less. But I do have to return mine because this one will not zoom while taking videos. It normally does zoom but for some reason this one was broke. Bottom line, if you are thinking of getting an inexpensive video/still camera, spend it on this one. For $200 bucks, its going to be hard to beat it.

Casio Rocks
I have loved Casio cameras since we special ordered our first 2 MP red camera from Japan. This 10.1 MP camera is a replacement for a 7 MP Casio that broke (when a friend dropped it on the pavement). We also have an 8 MP Casio. I like that this 10.1 MP camera goes back to the original Casio roots. In other words, it is small, a great size for pockets, and about the same size as the old 7 MP version. I realize that most people go for the other brands, but Casio cameras are great, and this tiny one is perfect for travel. It makes really good videos as well as still photos.

Good things come in small packages. Like the EX-Z80. With 8.1 megapixels, 3x optical zoom, and Exilim Engine 2.0, this sleek little camera can turn out big pictures. An easy mode, one button video function, and an assortment of color options, mean that this camera is ready to be your sidekick?accompanying you out on the town or into the office. YouTube capture mode, H.264 , and enhanced video make uploading and sharing a snap. And the although the camera is compact, the LCD isn't?a 2.6 inch wide screen makes it simple to frame your perfect shot. It's small, it's smart, and it's stylish. With the wide video-shooting function (16:9 ratio 848x480), the Exilim plays true to your plasma or LCD television, regardless of size. The future of video is in your Exilim. What more do you need? Must Take out Battery to charge.
The Camera Itself is Good. The Problem in my Opinion is to charge you must take out the battery, And When you put in , have to Adjust date every time. I found this a big Problem, So I gave it as a Gift. Other than that, It`s Good.

Great little camera
For my first digital camera I couldn't be happier with this purchase. It's very compact, can be easily hidden away in a pants pocket etc.
Take really great photos and the best thing is it's really easy to use. I don't have to spent 2hours readings a stupid manual to find out what are the options.
Everything about this camera is simple, I was shocked at how easy I can flip through options to change as I see fit.
I am still to check out exactly how many pics the battery can handle before needing a recharge but I took a week fiddling around with the camera, took videos and pics, changins options, playing back the video on the television etc before the battery needed a recharge.
This camera doesn't have a stupid time limit on videos, the length of the video depends on the space you have on the SD card, the 2gb card I have in give me about 1hr 10mins of video time which is great.
Get a case for it though, the display screen on the back is HUGE(love it) so you don't want it getting scratched up.

This Camera Sucks
I BOUGHT THIS CAMERA SIMPLAY BECAUSE IT WAS CHEAP AND IIT SAID YOU TUBE ONT THE FRONT. BUT IT REALLY SUCKS! WHEN I COMPARED THE PICS TO MY OLD CAMERA MY OLD ONE WHICH WAS AN HP WAS WAYYYYY BETTER. I SENT THE CASIO BACK AND GOT THE CANON. WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!! SHARP PIUCTURE AND EXCELLENT VIDEO QUALITY. THE CANON IS THE BEST BUY.
Rating :
Impressive
This is a very nice little camera, it takes great photos and great videos. It would be better if the battery had a longer life, it will go for 1.5 hours taking straight video on a fresh battery, so it's not miserable.
However, you will need to buy at least a 2 GB memory card. There is a small built in memory, but that is for the face recognition feature, it will only allow you to take 4 or 5 high quality photos, so you actually need to buy a memory card.
It's easy to use and if you spend a few minutes reading the instructions that are included on the disc as a .pdf file, you will learn that this camera has lots of features to enhance your experience and all the features are relatively easy to use and incorporate. Of course, this camera performs great without going through the instructions.
The one thing to make note of, there is software included but it is NOT compatible with MAC, fortunately I have iMovie that came with my iMac and it's all I need to edit video. Don't worry though Mac users, the video this camera creates can be viewed without the help of any editing software, it will open using QuickTime.
I hope this helps.

Question : Has anyone had a Casio Exilim Zoom digital camera?
I'm looking to by a Casio EX-Z1050 10.1-Megapixel Digital Camera and I was wondering if anyone has had one before and how well it works. I want something with a fast shutter speed that can take sharp pictures. My camera that I have right now doesn't focus in on things very well. For example, a while back I tried to take a picture of a dragon fly and it ended up just looking like a blur in the middle of the picture. I had it focused and it wasn't moving, it just didn't work very well. I'm hoping that the Casio would work better. Well, anyways, if you know anything about this camera, please let me know. Thanks. :)
Also. Do you know about the black ones. I like it better than the silver, but I saw a black, used one online and a lot of the paint was chipping off. I'm not sure if it was because of poor keeping, or if it just chips off easy. If the black does, that doesn't mean that the silver would too does it? I'm hoping that it is a different kind of paint or something.
Answer:
ok, well i have one, and i personally like it very much, the shutter speed is pretty damn fast for a decent digital camera, so is cool for taking action shots... and has a very good auto-focus tool, or you can focus it yourself, and has a fabulous macro, so you can take pictures of your dragon-fly til your hearts content :-) hope this helps, you can get good deals at PIXmania.com

Question : I have a Casio digital camera and I don't know how to save videos onto my computer from the library. Help?
Basically I click upload and then it sends me straight to the library. When i try to save videos they don't do anything when I click in the file I saved them to. My friend has a Casio and says something else pops up that you can save things from, but nothing else pops up with my library. What should I do? The Casio camera help section doesn't contain anything about videos.
Answer:
The easiest way is to buy a multi CARD READER. Then connect the card reader to your USB port, wait until the driver is automatically installed, then get your memory stick from your Casio camera and insert it to the appropriate place in the card reader. When it is done, you can browse from Explorer and copy paste your files. Good Luck

Question : Does anyone know where I can find a new usb cable for my Casio Exilim EXZ75 digital camera?
I recently lost the usb cable for my Casio Exilim EXZ75 digital camera. Someone told me to get a card reader. Does a card reader work the same way? Which is better an usb cable or card reader?
Answer:
The USB cable applicable to your camera is proprietary. You can search the internet to find it, but contacting Casio is the easiest. Expect to pay $40+ for a new cable.
Even better, just grab a card reader. It does almost everything. In terms of transferring photos, it works better (they're faster). If you want the advanced software upgrade features, or want to download images from the internal memory then you will need the cable. Note that software updates are not recommended to be taken on my novices and internal memory images can be copied to a memory card in the camera.
Where to find a card reader? Well your computer might already have it. HP/Compaq has had them for a while on many models. If your computer has it, it will be on the front of your computer and one will be markes SD.
If your computer doesn't have it, buy one. They start at around $15 at local stores and can be as low as $2 on http://dealextreme.com (expect to wait 4-6weeks for shipping and questionable quality). You want an SD card reader, but a multi-reader can't hurt. It'll plug into any USB port.

Question : how do i make my pictures look better with a casio exilim digital camera?
I just go this new digital camera from casio. but when i take pictures they backround light seems to be a little darker and the persons face looks red or like there is to much light.
Answer:
There is more to photography than "point" and "shoot".
The more you learn about it (via books and tutorials), the more you are able to figure out why something doesn't look right and what to do about it.
Start with your manual - read it, then practice. Read it again, practice some more. Experiment and pay attention to what worked and what didn't.
Your little camera has big limitations, but can still take decent photos as long as the light is good. It is up to YOU to get the most out of it.

Question : can I charge casio digital camera with li-ions batteries i bought here in europe?
america and europe have different standarts in electricity, europe has 220 volts. i'm afraid i'll need to buy a transformator for charging my camera in europe, but i really don't know. model of camera is casio exilirim p505.
Answer:
Most Casios sold in recent years, including yours, will charge with the U.S. standard 110-120 volts OR with the European 220-240 volts. Just to be certain, look at the charger. There should be specs regarding the voltage it will handle. If it says 220-240, you're in business. All you'll need is an adapter to be able to use the European outlets. Radio Shack and other electronics and camera stores sell them. They're not expensive. Be sure to tell them where you're going because there are a couple of different plugs. The UK is different from most of the countries on the continent, for example. Some stores sell a kit that will fix you up for all of the common outlets.
That should be it. Have a good trip!
